brasilians never listen to portuguese people speaking - and the portuguese from Portugal has a great number of mute and closed vowels, making it difficult to understand if you are not trained - also the rythm is very different, with lots of ups and downs in the tone and lots of accelarations and slowing downs, making it a very platic sonority, not at all monothone as the brasilian portuguese
