An urgent call to protect the world's "Third Pole" | Tshering Tobgay

The Hindu Kush Himalaya region is the world's third-largest repository of ice, after the North and South Poles -- and if current melting rates continue, two-thirds of its glaciers could be gone by the end of this century. What will happen if we let them melt away? Environmentalist and former Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay shares the latest from the "water towers of Asia," making an urgent call to create an intergovernmental agency to protect the glaciers -- and save the nearly two billion people downstream from catastrophic flooding that would destroy land and livelihoods.

Look at carbon deposits in limestone, geological records of co2 and temperature levels( not directly correlated) in our world's 4.5 billion(!) Year history. Then ask a botanist: At what lowest co2 level is plantlife still sustainable? Then ask an astronomer about space weather, planetary warming in our solar system and solar activity records. Now connect the dots and you might find a sensible answer to your question: "who would dislike this video?"

If we think together as mankind, limit our pp CO2, stop the greed of corporate, focus together to invent renewable energy and elect those political leaders in power, we can save the mother earth. But things are happening in reverse, countries are choosing more nationalistic and ignorant leaders. We will find so many patriots in the world but find very few earth lover as a whole. We are divided for the interest of corporate and political leaders. May be this the beginning of the end...or not?

It has destroyed the economy via killing competition by putting 'kings of the hill' corporations in place of mom & pop shops. It is polluting the air, land, and oceans by the dumping the insurmountable waste that capitalism creates. Amazon is burning because of lust for money too. This is very similar to the gun argument that guns dont kill people, but when we regulate or ban guns, the killings decrease substantially. I say in the same way we need to ban the access to guns, so too should be ban money. Proof of my claim? Fundamentally, for the longest duration of our human existence, we had no monetary system, compared to a mere blip of our Evolutionary background showing the usage of money, and the whole world is in free-fall decline in cut-throat societies everywhere we look.

This is heart breaking. I totally agree with him. We don't have time. All the powerful people in the world should take this seriously and implement policies which help fight climate change. We need more forests, way better drainage systems and processing facilities before exporting waste to our waters, use public transport over personal cars, more plant based food over meat and no plastic. #bhutan #globalwarming

@@afabuloussentientbeing8112 I disagree with you. You are underestimating the impact of public transportation. It is one of the most effective ways of solving lots of problems, cars don't solve those. Also as the matter of being authoritarian, I think asking people to do something and helping them by providing a relevant infrastructure is not authoritarianism.

We Indians want it to But the problem is We have a good gdp If we stop it all of it cars , factories ,bikes ,trucks , trains Ee can also be carbon neutral But then people will lose jobs Then they will not earn money How will they buy things like food , home , land ,dress. If we have low gdp and somehow have the tribes to help us with food We have political enemies like xhina , who will use their military to take over us and do the same thing we are doing now Basically we have bad luck Either save ur people Or save the other people Both can't be done simultaneously It's like Either lose father or whole family

I salute Mr Prime minister's farsightedness.when all the developed countries focus on the financial issues and busy to establish their supremacy above others, then, only PM of undeveloped country talks about the upcoming water crisis and several natural calamities which could be the result of glacier's melting. He call the big giants of Asia especially China and India, to come ahead for the rescuing ours natural resources. This is the need of this time to think about the unimaginable destruction which lies ahead, if, we ignore the present scenario.

People are busy with fighting each other and bullying and exploiting less privileged fellows humans or animals alike and the environment. They are challenging the Nature. Nature get back at them not only them but others who do not harm.

All countries must work together now to prevent the planet from getting warmer. We all have to work together, all governments, all citizens, we all have to protect our climate, our environment, and our planet. We have to do everything in our power to prevent disasters caused by global warming from happening. We must save and protect our planet which is also our home. There is no planet B.
