An Introduction to the Musou Genre - Musou Retrospective part 1

Ойындар

For years now I've been very curious about the Musou/Warriors games, every time a new game comes out adapting a licensed property I see people pick up the game based on the brand it's adapting (One Piece, Berserk, Fire Emblem, Persona 5, etc) complain the game is repetitive and put it down without finishing it.Is Koei Tecmo just printing shovel ware every year? Are these games much more deep and nuanced than non fans realize? what makes a Musou game good or bad and what are some good examples of the genre? join me, as I hope to find out in this brand new video series.

I definitely appreciate it XD we all have to start somewhere I guess. I'm hoping to gain more traction as I get this series going as well as other projects I have planned.

Huh… Despite me not playing any other ones until very recently, I found out my introduction to Musou games was apparently the first one, Dynasty Warriors 2. I remember playing it as a kid with my sister at my grandparents’ house on my older cousin’s PS2. We hardly ever finished levels but we had fun finding each other across the map and battling endless enemies. We eventually got our revenge on Lu Bu & got excited whenever we happened to pick a character with a horse. 😆

Incredibly well researched and produced video. It’s rare you’ll see someone outside of the fandom cover the interesting and LONG history of this franchise. Warriors games are a gaming guilty pleasure from childhood, the definition of gaming junk food. Super cheap thrills (especially for the mainline series which has been steadily waining for years now) but I’ll always have a soft spot for them. Back on my musou kick at the minute and I’m so glad your video got recommended to me. Look forward to watching the rest of the series!

WARRIORS OROCHI 3 Ultimate Definitive Edition is on sale on steam. It got overwhelmingly positive recent reviews which, for a musou game, is insanely gud.

I freaking love Musou games This video is amazing 😮 thank you 😊 Also, I think you're the very first Musou games centered video that is showing any gameplay from Arslan 😮 I beat it on PS3 and I loved it

I feel like this video was made out of thoughts I mutter crazily to myself. Very happy to see someone appreciating these great games. My personal favorites are the even more niche games that get lumped in with musous but have a little more character action in the mix and a little less map strategy gameplay, mainly the Tamsoft and Honeyparade games. To me, they're all 3d beatemups carrying forward the legacy of Streets of Rage and the like

New note of small fry grunts. Grunts are a threat under a commander, lieutenant, general, etc. Just not to you (Post DW5), but to your own troops and officers especially if you have Keeps or Strongholds under your control since you dont want your own troops fleeing where they can slow down or even stop advancing forces.

I like this video. I like your style - the dry, biting humor followed by a moment of ethos and humility while you explain the joke so as to not offends the fans is actually a really fun draw for me - and your video was fairly informative. If ever you make a part 2, I will be there, but I can't subscribe just yet. I went through your channel's recent history, and it seems you never got around to this follow-up. I would personally like to see a little more research and hardcore, little-known-facts represented in these videos, and a more consistent upload schedule with these series. Still, I sincerely wish you the best, especially in regards to the 2nd part of this retrospective, and I hope the like and the comment appease the algorithm so you can get more subscribers.

I love musou games, mostly Dynasty Warriors as I grew up playing DW5 on the PS2 with my cousin, became a fan ever since... but I have a personal gripe with this series, the combat against lots of soldiers/minions is fine, but when if comes to 1v1 it's very poor, you got no way to lock on to the enemy, no dodge button, no parry, a barely usable block sometimes and the combos are not so satisfying to pull off against single opponents as they are against hordes... I know the game is not supposed to be technical, but deeper mechanics would enhance the combat, one example would be when you fight Lu Bu in any DW game, it's a race to hit him first and keep juggling him in the air like a real juggler, because if you let his feet touch the ground you are pretty much dead. But if they implemented these mechanics I listed above, you would introduce "the dance" to the game, where you'd have to manage attack, defense, evasion and distance in the fight, making it more enjoyable and less repetitive, and you could still mindlessly kill normal officers by mashing everything and use the 1v1 mechanics on Lu Bu and the Generals/Final Bosses of the level.

Tbh, I'm pretty curious about these games since they seem to be see very fun to play. And I'll admit that I'm one of those ppl who played Hyrule Warriors first, before playing any other warriors game, but I can assure you that while I love the game, I don't think that it's perfect Edit: If you're wondering, yes I did play a couple of DW games and I love them and I'm looking forward to playing the SW games soon, though I'm not sure if I should play WO, since I saw the gameplay of it and was like, Ehh...

So far Hyrule Warriors is my personal Musou but I do love the genera and the Oachi series too, but I'm looking forward to playing others based on it. Also I think North Star Paradise is more of a Yakuza game then a Musou inspired one

I mean, the first dynasty warriors game was a fighting game like tekken. So it could in fact be argued that lost paradise could technically be classed as a musou game. But meh lost paradise is just FOTNS Yakuza. Kens Rage though? Those two are definitely musou

I'm a little late to the party.. but very well done video man! Informative, thorough, pretty damn good. You definatley deserve more views and love! I played DW3 when I was a kid. Dw3 and dw4 and samurai warriors 1 and sw2 were my favorites. I'm returning back to the series and I bought warriors orochi 4 ultimate super duper mega whatever lol Its not horrible but maybe I need to give it more time. As someone who's favorite is dw3 dw4 sw1 and sw2 what would you personally reccomend from the warrior games? I'm not a huge fan of all this magic attacks and doing Kamehameha waves to enemies.. im a simple man, I enjoy the simple stuff where its like Square triangle knocks up Square Square triangle stuns Square x3 triangle is crowd clear etc.. I picked up warrior orochi 4 ultimate supercum Supreme edition because it had a stupid huge roster and im thinking I might have made a mistake..
