Regarding using them for bushmeat, what if they start a public information campaign where they tell the folks about the health hazards to them if they eat bonobo meat? Seems like if they use people's fear of getting sick as a deterrent, it may cause people to eventually stop hunting bonobos. Just an idea.

A good idea, actually, but as fearsome some people might be, they will propably stick with their believes. They will stick with believing that for example the fingers of baby bonobos or just ape meat in general will make them strong or something.

Didn't totems once forbid people from killing too many of the species whose totem they were assigned? Why do I feel like colonization has in some ways thrown people backwards? The Kongo Kingdom did not have a "poaching" problem. Something happened to West and Central African societies that needs to be thoroughly analyzed. It's almost like a mass amnesia, or a mass delusion is upon previously nature-oriented peoples. Correct me if I am wrong.

European colonialism did vast social, political, and environmental damage to Africa and the Americas. Africans invented astronomy and mathematics, and astrology for use as a calendar for agricultural planning and for way finding during travel. Much of the history of Africa and the Americas was totally destroyed as most conquests result in, there were many large cities in Africa and the Americas and beautiful art and technology. So much of it was lost, and there has been so much exploitation in Africa for hundreds of years. It’s horribly sad. Many countries participate in purposely keeping Africa poor through resource exploitation, because they want to stay wealthy and resource abundant. People around the world are starting to realize slowly, hopefully something will be done about it.

How can anyone think of eating a Bonobo? Reminiscent of H.G. Wells' Time Machine, in a future where humanity is divided between peaceful and predatory species, a scientist, time traveler, must face the carnivorous Morlocks to save his friends Elois. It's terrible to know that Morlocks exist, live on the surface and are in Congo; they are beings that resemble humans, but they are Elois-eating jerks. Horrible!
