An interview with J. Neilson of History Channel's "Forged in Fire"

“I’m the crazy guy who swings knives on TV."
The smash of a hammer on hot steel was a call J. Neilson couldn’t walk away from as he spent the early parts of his adulthood searching for a purpose in life. Now that he's found it, Neilson has achieved the designation of Master Smith, established his own shop in Towanda, Pa., and -- most notably to fans, he's one of three judges on the History Channel's "Forged in Fire."
"Nobody's carrying swords around, but people carry knives,” and Neilson's are some of the best. Join the Master Smith in this NCPA exclusive video and see how he made his rise through the fire.

I watch and enjoy the show from Australia and will enjoy it even more since hearing J speak here. A down to earth guy who has travelled a working class road to become a Master of his craft, Kudos to him. Best Wishes.

Nice guy. I met him once at the ICCE show in Kansas City a few years ago. Would like to buy one of his knives someday, M.I. Combat Fighter specifically, or maybe one of his drop points. Bring the show back to KC!

I've been starting to watch "Forged in Fire" since early this year, and here, I'm deeply impressed by his passion for blade smithing, sharing his own thoughts or perspectives when it comes to his work, for being a judge on the series itself is really no joke. Nice! Greetings from the Philippines!

Respect him the most among the judges. I hear feel bad that kids hate the way he tests weapons. The strength test is fair. Good to know he tests his own weapons the same way, though

The first time i did forging i also used to do my work outside not depending how the weather was. Now ive got a inside workshop and im doing my stuff much more professional. Its a long process to get all the tools and mostly i produce them all by myself.

Never been able to own my own home hence I've never been able to have my own forge and I finally moved to Pennsylvania and I still can't do it. Every episode of forged and fire I watch I feel like I'm wasting my life more and more.
