while I do enjoy the cheesy and nerdy side of power metal, you can actually find power metal that is not very cheesy (it's still nerdy though). My favourite power metal band that isn't cheesy (imho) is Manticora, they're quite obscure though.

I can hear the bass in Rhapsody for example, thats why its my favourite power metal band among other things, I think it's just the most complete epic/power metal band to ever exist.

I remember how cool and adventurous I thought Keeper of the Seven Keys by Helloween was for me as a 11 year old in 1989, going over my older brothers Collection of all kinds of Metal and classic Rock. He had all of Iron Maiden, Helloween, Ozzy Osbourne, Accept, Judas Priest and others. My go to live concert on his VHS collection was Live After Death with Iron Maiden. It's magnificent how Steve Harris of Iron Maiden could run and play the bass for 2 hours or something. It was a perfect genre for me as a kid that Movies like Conan The Barbarian and anything Silvester Stallone. I realized watching this video that all of those ingredients,( fantasy, Dungeons and Dragons, Tolkien, Vikings) were what Bathory, Merciful Fate, Hellhammer and Venom and were influenced by to create the extreme genres like Black Metal. They were interested in history and fantasy and were kids, cosplaying with instruments and those garments. Good Video.

2:35 Epica and Within Temptation also play with live orchestra on occasions. Also Nightwish isn’t a power metal band and you missed two of the most important Power Metal band: Blind Guardian and Rhapsody/Luca Turilli.
