Heck yeah, people don't figure the rising cost of meats, fuels,rubs/spices, containers, and your time is definitely worth something, electricity for food holders ..it goes on and on...hobbies don't pay bills😁👍 have a great one brother, you all stay safe!👍👊🍻

Exactly it’s expensive to cook bbq of any kind of meat plus the time involved!!! I selling plates like half pound pulled pork sandwiches two sides for 15$ and it sell but I’m a great cook also 😉

I just started selling bbq at work and I started charging the same or more then some bbq joints for bbq. They can not buy and bring their homemade food, or buy from the lunch truck (which charges just as much as I do for lesser quality). But I figured in order for them to get smoked anything, they either have to spend over $50 in supplies and spend a whole day to make it, or they have to go somewhere far to eat there, plus tip. We only get 30 min lunches and take out bbq is out of the question…. So I’m a luxury, not a commodity. I just happen to show up once a week with bbq at work 🤷🏽

Realistically nearly all BBQ is under-priced. Prep and cooking an individual brisket can easily exceed 14 hours and that's not including rest time which still takes work. At the end of the day brisket is almost not worth the hassle. But any pitmaster with pride will still serve it because it demonstrates their own ability to curate a brisket. It takes a lot of skill to cook a really good one. But as someone who still sells primarily to family and friends, it's hard to price gouge them for an extra $20 when I still do it as a hobby more than a business.

That’s not bad at all $12. Heck people spend more than that just on a beer. They never complain about that.

I’m not claiming this is the right way it’s just a simple way until you find out a more efficient way to price your food. Just remember is this a business? Or just a hobby?

I also look at others prices and price at what is the average around. People want the cheapest, and those I will not sell bbq to them. I priced high because all the expenses. And I so not buy anything at whole sale price unlike restaurants do.

Oh ya definitely depending on what meat you use is always going to determine the price. For now I’m not using prime. Just choice grade meat. If I was going a pop up for a venue maybe I would using a higher quality meat and up the prices.

@@FernandoMartinez-dn4se I feel like it all kind of depends on the situation for me if I’m selling sandwiches I’ll just use choice meat but if I’m going to make plates using sliced brisket I’ll probably would want to go with prime or something like that or if I have a food truck I would probably want to use prime but since I sell from home I kind of only use choice if you get what I’m saying.
