AN EVENING WITH RAKIM: REVELATIONS ON CREATIVITY FROM THE LYRICAL GENIUS
In the history of hip-hop, few artists have had as great an impact on the development and progression of the lyrical art form as Rakim Allah. Universally recognized as one of the masters of the microphone and an influence and inspiration to his peers and followers alike, Rakim first exploded onto the scene in 1986 with the song “Eric B. Is President” with longtime collaborator Eric B. In 1997, Rakim released his first solo album The 18th Letter.
In 2019, Rakim released his memoir Sweat the Technique: Revelations on Creativity from the Lyrical Genius, which offers unprecedented access into how the hip-hop legend thinks about music and writing, as well as the observational and spiritual foundations upon which he built the persona of The God MC.
Rakim is introduced by Adam Bradley, founding director of the Laboratory for Race & Popular Culture (the RAP Lab) at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

The "God", since 86', has proven he is the greatest MC of all time. He's the ultimate lyricist, thought-provoking poet, and multi-complex vocalist in the realm of hip-hop. There has never been another since. Only a few others have achieved this plateau with the likes of KRS1, Kool Moe D, Chuck D, Nas, and Melle Mel, but there is only one that sits on the throne...Rakim Allah!

"Ice-grilled, laid-back, diamond-sharp" -Rolling Stone.......... that says it all Rakims a classic OG from "The Golden Age Era" of hip hop humble, genuine and laid back I love how he doesn't curse but still get's his story and message across in his music. He once said he didn't use profanity in his music because he knew his parents would be listening RESPECT right there! R - Rugged and rough that's how I do it. A - Allah who I praise to the fullest. The Greatest is purely based on ones personal preference, and mentality.. In my opinion I do think 🤔 Rakim is the GREATEST.... i won’t go into why because it’s my own personal reasons.... But I do also recognize that he is weak in certain categories and on that note I’m out 💯
