I remember Suzanne saying in an interview that when she was at the Newhart final cast party, that she slipped out because she said it was not her house, but was Mary Frann's, and people were trying to get Suzanne and Bob to read lines and stuff from the original show, and Suzanne felt that it would be disrespectful to Mary. It's a delight to hear Bob reminisce about the show and I want to hear more. The finale of the show was surprising and funny, but the dream premise should not make us forget the genius of so many wonderful episodes. I feel that the Newhart show was one of the most memorable comedies from the 1980s. Its comedy was over the top, the individual regular characters were unique from one another and unforgettable, and so many other characters over the course of the series, along with imaginative scenarios. Everyone had their great lines, but each one had their turn at being the butt of a joke, but no one more than Bob's character--Dick was so modest, a nice guy, and really a good friend to the others while at the same time being unappreciated. And he always had the perfect and funny comeback to someone's ridiculous behavior or remarks. He and Joanna were like a mom and dad to Michael and Stephanie. I liked how the series over time explained how Michael and Stephanie were raised and the origins of their annoying but funny ways. Somehow the writers and actors took narcissism and turned it into some crazy comedy. The town seemed to be populated by the 'never really grown up'. And viewers are puzzled why they're so charmed by the scruffy woodsmen, Larry, Darryl, and Darryl. I've said, and heard others say I don't know why I like them, I just do. My thought, they seem like kids suddenly bursting into the room after a day of wild but innocent play. Well enough said...yes.... I've been binge watching. It's just a great show! But one more thought--I forgot to mention Tom Poston's character George Utley. Episodes featuring George are among my favorites😊

I give ya great sitcom. That doesn’t take away anything from Newharts contribution to television. I was kinda to young ( and my parents didn’t watch) Bob Newhart Show. I caught on with Newhart Hard to rank a Best ever because each era of television has its gems. Mash is up there. Cheers certainly was one of the greats along with Taxi and Seinfeld. And I Love Lucy in its day was funny. Does not hold up as well today, I don’t think. But still has some funny moments Later on, as in more recently Will & Grace comes to the forefront as well And I’m missing some , I’m sure will cross my mind. Bob Newhart is under rated, as a comic actor Thanks Mr Newhart. U know your good when your best friend was Don Rickles , another comic that is sorely missed

The words don't come out quite as fast, but when he's got them ready, the timing is still incredible, the pauses just exactly the right length. Whenever I listen to Mr. Newhart's Sir Walter Raleigh story on CD, I still almost fall out of my chair with laughter, even though I know what is coming. Has there ever been anyone as good at doing a half a phone conversation? Shelley Berman? Very good, but this good? When Mr. Newhart played a police chief who has to talk his green underling through defusing a bomb on the beach, he goes from deadpan (sorry, Mr. Newhart) to frantic, to repressed frantic, to annoyed, with such certainty that the listener believes the situation completely, which makes it funny. Such a great actor whatever he does. Love him! Have always loved watching and listening to his performances.

Are you so used to celebrities so stretched and pumped up wih botox and fillers that you cannot just appreciate you elders and what well-deserved old age looks like?! Some of you sound concerned, but others are just arseholes! Also, he is still pretty damned sharp for his age; he has always hesitated or kind of stammered in his delivery. That is Bob Newhart! Goodness.

But he does look frail, not necessarily old and this was three years ago? My mum is old (93) but is a full sized well fed woman, not frail looking. My dad, who looked a bit like Bob here died at 72 and did look frail. I think most people are concerned so don't get upset. John Cleese named Bob Newhart as one of his influences and here is the great Bob Newhart naming a Monty Python moment in his last show. Hats off to you Bob. Loved his Newhart (Vermont) series. I watched the entire series twice since the series was complete and ended. I also watched it when i could when it was actually on every Monday and taped VHS when i was working as much as i could. i think Jerry Seinfeld used this idea of just going out on top from Bob Newhart.

I know Bob Newhart had his own show where he was a psychiatrist (or a psychologist, can't recall) with "The Bob Newhart Show" where he was married to the late Suzanne Pleshette (again, may be misspelled). He also had "Bob" and then "Newhart". All were very funny and entertaining. So I wonder WHY hasn't he been honored at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts?!!! He must be in his 90's by now. Let's hurry up and suggest to the Kennedy Center that he's MORE than earned it!

Was all fired up to see this great comedian many years ago at a theatre near me. At the last minute, the show was cancelled due to not selling enough seats. I was both annoyed and shocked - and yes, disappointed too. Never did get to see his act, 'thanks', all those people with no taste..........

The Newhart episode he was talking about where Dick hosted an interview show and the guy who went up the Amazon and discovered dinosaurs has made its rounds on KZread. Hilarious. Bob Newhart is the greatest, seems to be as true as he was back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. A famous blooper from Newhart where Joanna called Dick, "Bob," and Bob the actor had a good time with that. Long may Bob reign.

"A famous blooper from Newhart where Joanna called Dick, "Bob," ...." Or are you confused and it was Dick who called Joanna "Emily"? That actually happened. At the 3 minute mark of this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mWVksJiweNK8Xag.html

I thought he was referring to the Bob Newhart Show, which was 6 seasons I believe. Maybe it was 7. Later Julia said 8 seasons for Newhart. Whatever. I do vividly recall the finale of "Newhart", and to this day I thought one of the best.
