portuguese here, we were not good guys, nor were the spanish the english or the japanese. im on the 5th episode and even tho the portuguese are the clear antagonist its not like the rest look good in the picture, those were brutal times and everyone was brutal, this show does a great job displaying it. watch it, its a great show.

Greed is the only bad guy here. The Portuguese, Spain, the Netherlands, and England all wanted to conquer the world, creating settlements and influencing existing nations with treaties. In this case, the Portuguese wanted to influence the Japanese in their favor and did all they could to undermine the English.
