The disrespect the Lakers organization showed Kobe, who dedicated half of his life to this team, is insane. How did it take so long to get him a statue, when Shaq already got one? Not only that but they even had a careless typo on that statue itself. The sheer disrespect shown to Jerry freaking West who basically built.the team from the beginning and got them multiple rings by bringing in Kobe is insane. All this to appease the overgrown man child LeBron who literally load manages on the court letting his team play 4v5 on defense. Face it, the Lakers with their great history is over with the current leaders at the helm.

Lakers management sucks. Jeanie buss was mentored mostly in the financial aspect of team operations. From what I’ve read online, the lakers are the second most profitable franchise in the league, but making a profit doesn’t translate to building a competent team or making good decisions, as they’ve shown. Even Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak, who were mentored by Jerry West himself, couldn’t run the team well. By all accounts, the lakers should be sold. It’s also disgraceful how Jeanie was so petty with West, not offering a good job back at multiple times (which I’m sure was because management is known to be stingy), taking away his lifetime tickets, not naming him as a top 5 Laker despite his contributions on and off the court, and barely even acknowledging his passing (the fucking clippers paid more of a tribute to him) is just awful with how they treated arguably the most important person to the franchise.

No coach will have the authority the coach needs, but they will receive all the blame for failure, and no surprise no good coach wants to coach the biggest market team in the NBA with 2 all NBA lvl players. The Lakers need to get rid of Bron, trade AD for a young star/stars and try to rebuild.

Because the NBA and other basketball YT channels have already uploaded vids about him, literally within HOURS of the announcement of his passing. I think its kinda bad cus its like they were just waiting for the guy to pass away to cash in on his image a little more. Atleast give it a few days, you know what I mean. If I’m a Lakers fan, I would want to ditch Lebron for draft picks, and rebuild with a younger head coach. This isn’t going anywhere with LBJ/AD. There is no reason to think that LBJ or AD are going to do anything but continue to slowly decline every year. They are both great players, but its just the reality. Trade Lebron to a team that agrees to draft LBJ jr and move on.

Here's a crazy thought. The Lakers and Jerry West fallout sent Jerry West to Memphis. After Memphis he went to Golden State and helped put together the Warriors team that changed the entire league. Mike Brown was fired from the Lakers for trying to run the Princeton offense and starting the season with a losing streak. I love Kobe, God rest his soul, but he didn't embrace the offense and that's why the Lakers fired Mike Brown. Steve Kerr gets too much credit for the Warriors success. Mike Brown was an assistant coach for the Warriors when they revolutionized basketball....with the Princeton offense. Steve Kerr certainly didn't learn that from Phil Jackson or Greg Popovich in his playing days. That's Mike Browns influence. There is an alternate reality out there. One where the Lakers kept Jerry West happy, the Lakers and Mike Brown were the ones that changed the game, and Kobe lands a few more rings. Pau Gasol at the elbow playing like Draymond Green and Kobe playing off the ball in Mike Brown's offense would have been fun to watch. In this reality we don't trade the entire team for Russell Westbrook. Sign throwaways from the entire league and don't bend the knee to Lebron at his every passive aggressive move. Jeannie is too focused on star power. She turned Lamarcus Aldridge away from the Lakers in his meeting because she didn't talk about basketball. It was all off the court reasons to be a Laker. She keeps Lebron around, going on year 3 past when a rebuild was appropriate because of his star power. She must think that when Lebron retires that the Lakers will just sign another top free agent to fill in the void. That's not going to happen. This team is going to need to rebuild through the draft, and then MAYBE sign a star player. The worst part is, if Jeannie had just shut down Lebron on his Anthony Davis trade, the team would be in excellent shape. Kuzma, Ingram, and Hart along with whoever they drafted with the picks that have been handed to the Pelicans would have made this team more competitive than they have been since 2020. This team hasn't had a good offseason since Magic Johnson left. Lebron only came because of Magic talking to him the moment free agency opened. Magic could sell ice cube's to Eskimo's. It really is a dark time to be a Lakers fan. Worse than when Magic retired with HIV. At least we had Jerry West to fall back on to fill out the roster and rebuild.

I am an older guy and a life long Lakers fan. Sometimes a franchise needs to deal with the consequences of poor management and not resisting quick changes. * The problem for the Lakers began at the end of Dr. Buss’ life when his son, Jimmy Buss, was made the head of basketball operations. Jimmy didn’t like Phil Jackson. When Phil wanted to come back and coach the Lakers, Jimmy said no and picked Mike D’Antoni. The D’Antoni pick was terrible as the squad of older All Stars, Kobe, Pau, Howard, Nash, was designed for Phil’s system and not for the fast break, poor 5 out, 3 point dominant, poor defense of D’Antoni. Even D’Antoni has said he should not have become the Lakers coach. Pau and Howard were not happy since D’Antoni cannot coach bigs. Nash could not handle the pace and Kobe tore his Achilles in the playoffs. After the D’Antoni disaster, the Lakers missed the playoffs 6 seasons in a row. * Then the Lakers rebuild the roster and got a new coach, Frank Vogel. They got AD and Lebron and they won a title in 2020. * But with success, certain management, team members and fans became impatient. The Lakers gutted the roster for Westbrook which was a huge mistake. Russ was poison in the locker room and the Lakers fired Frank Vogel. * The Lakers got rid of Westbrook which was good. They hired Darvin Ham as coach and went to the conference finals but again with success, certain management, team members and fans became impatient. So, the Lakers fired Darvin Ham. * Firing two successful coaches in 3 years means most other coaches are not going to want to take the Lakers coaching job. It disrupts team continuity. * I see another playoff drought coming for the Lakers. It may not last 6 years but it’s going to take awhile before they can compete for a title.

I agree with a lot of what you said. LeBron is a double edged sword right now. I don't even believe the Lakers ownership really cares about winning a championship with him. I think they are more concerned with the revenue James' name brings in. I also feel like one of the reasons no serious coach seems to be eyeing this job is the resources really aren't there for them. The Lakers wanted to go all in on LeBron so they got AD and then they got Westbrook. Now they're kind stuck with what they got because they're not getting anything for LeBron. He'll walk away before that happens. AD's value is still strong but has lessoned over the years because of injury and honestly once LeBron leaves who else do you have to hold down the team until the next Laker's superstar comes in. Also you probably won't get a real equivalent player for AD anyways in a trade. Not to mention their draft pick status is so bad right now with everything they did to get Westbrook and AD. No one wants to come in and risk that kind of pressure. I think JJ is the one exception because he's young and it will be his first head coaching job so he probably feels he has a little more freedom if things go sour there. He's not giving up anything from a job security stand point.

Lifelong Laker fan here. I have a good feeling about JJ Redick and I think he might make a good head coach. I'm not sure he's the right fit for the Lakers now, but who are we going to get? I don't want a perpetually mediocre coach like Doc Rivers or the like just because they have experience. It'd be great if a really good coach with some experience was available, but I'm not sure someone like that would want to come to LA, particularly knowing that LeBron is going to be a nightmare to coach. LeBron doesn't seem to recognize that, while he's still very good, he's not as good as he used to be, and he doesn't actually fit in many systems. They can try to run it back with the "LeBron system" on offense that he had good success with in Cleveland, but the system itself is already outdated and LeBron can't even run it like he used to _(for you non-Laker fans, the Lakers' offense has been absolutely atrocious to watch for 3 years. Really really bad. They have LeBron and AD so they end up in the middle of the pack, but they didn't deserve to be even that high; they were legitimately as bad as the Pistons from a system perspective. The only bright spot was Austin Reaves, and while he's been good, nobody thinks Austin Reaves is leading them to a championship)._ I do actually think LeBron + AD + another star _might_ be enough to contend for a title, but that team wouldn't be a favorite to win the West even if they did have a decent chance, and that's assuming everyone stays healthy. I'd rather not go down that road, but if Jeannie Buss really wants to give it a try, then fine. We probably end up losing in the 2nd round and in a bigger hole than we're in now, but who knows? Maybe you catch lightning in a bottle. It's not what I'd do, but it's a plan. Honestly, I think the best move the Lakers can make is to trade LeBron _(or just let him leave, I guess?)_ and blow it up. Hire JJ Redick if he wants to come to LA and make sure he knows his job is to develop the young guys, then get some young guys. Keep AD or don't, I think both moves potentially have merit, but if he doesn't want to rebuild _(like he didn't in New Orleans)_ then move him. Be terrible for a year or even two years, but _have patience._ Don't try to trade whatever young talent you have and all your draft picks for Luka. You blew all your picks for years to come trying to appease LeBron, so the rebuild is going to be slow, but I'd love to be the OKC Thunder if the opportunity is there.

They really need to change course, but I doubt they would. Good question at the end. I say that the Lakers should not hire JJ. Like you said, he is inexperienced. I have my doubts that he would be willing to challenge LeBron (and would just defer to him - even if the better decision would be to do something opposite). Take care, Jonny. Absolutely! Drama was SUPER high at that point as well after the whole Shaq and Kobe split.

I was born in LA. Kobe was my hero like he was for all Laker fans. I’ve been a DIEHARD Laker fan as far back as my memory goes. Even I refuse to root for them until Lebron is gone!!!!

at this point Lebron could be a player coach. If he fights with coaches and clearly has a wealth of experience and knowledge then him being his own coach lets him get the freedom he wants from coaching and I think he could do a fine job with what he knows.

ok I have since found out player coaches are illegal in the nba. I had thought people just didn't opt to do it.

I like your stuff, Jonny. I really do. But, as a Celtics fan, things haven't been better (aside from losing Jerry West. There is NO LOVE for us losing him. RIP Logo). The Laker coaching drama is GREAT, and the possibility of Boston winning its 18th championship is EVEN BETTER! Especially since the Celtics team is strong enough to compete for several more championships.

@@samuraibeastwarrior2886 I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that the Celtics and Lakers were baseball teams and that the NBA was over 100 years old! What you said makes zero sense. The Yankees are the Celtics of Baseball. The team with the most titles. And don’t crow too much, because your best player in franchise history played where they didn’t allow Blacks to compete! Josh Gibson, not Babe Ruth, would have been the guy with the Home Run records if they didn’t keep him out.

I respect the hell out of this video. Sometimes I don't agree with your takes but to be this honest about your team is absolutely right. The team has gradually gone downhill since 2010. And unlike the Celtics, ownership will ruin any chances of having a functional team. If I were in their place. I would blow the team up. Trade everyone for young assets, picks, expiring contracts and then hire a new coach. But ownership will fold to LeBron and you all won't have anything left by the time he leaves. This is coming from a Miami heat fan

Looking forward to next season when the lakers win the 2nd in season tournament, then go on a losing streak, rebuild the entire team at the trade deadline, and get casually bounced out of the play-in

The lakers standard isn’t the same. They remind me of an IG model at this point. The structure was so strong in the past ( west, buss, Phil). Now it’s more of a beauty contest . Honestly their Rona ring just doesn’t have the same shine. It’s been a while since the organization was stable

I was very happy when LeBron came to the Heat back then, but also equally as relieved when he left.
