Don’t forget that in the anime Grandpa Muto also had to switch the positions of the tokens twice to “turn” the Ancient Key that unlocked the Ancient Gate meaning that you had to not only keep them from being destroyed it also meant you had to take the 1000LP burn damage from the tokens not attacking for 1 turn 😂

General idea may be to flip the damage effects on the ancient rock stuff to "deal dmg to the opponent if you didn't attack" as a sort of idea that you aren't doing anything, but the millennia are passing and the ancient monsters are staying the same while the opponent is withering or something... Then again that may get obnoxious with the Runick package. If we're going with some sort of defensive/control/passive game plan then maybe make Ancient Dragon's new effect be something like "(Quick Effect): Once Per Turn destroy cards on your opponents field for every defense position monster on your field" add in some sorta protection effect or two and you've got a boss monster that's just hard removal that's hard to remove. Heck if you want to get real crazy maybe add in Time Wizard, Baby Dragon/Thousand Dragon retrains as well to create the "Things getting old" motif.

I was also thing. Wouldn’t it be cool to have this Deck’s Theme and Playstyle be around a ROCK/DRAGON Archetype? Where like Ancient Stones allow for these Dragons to appear from beyond the Ancient Gate? Heck, this could even be a ROCK/WRYM archetype that suggest that the stones hold the Spirits of Ancient Dragons, allowing for this deck to have some extra deck synergies outside its Archetype.

I always thought these cards were ass in the anime...and I still do, lmao. Way too bricky. The Duel itself, however, did show off Giant Trunade and Premature Burial being a great combo...which is part of why they're banned.

I think ancient gate was supposed to imply that you could special summon the ancient dragon from your deck if the other ancient cards were on the field but they never specifically said for some reason. If it was going to be a real card they could tack on some other effect as a activation condition discard cost or you need to have certain number of cards in your hand etc.

I can really appreciate it for being a one-off Deck that had more than just a theme. It at least had the semblance of an engine and a direction, albeit awful, 😅 but there was more depth to it than say the knight duelist from the same season 🤺

@@burblebineabbletv Agreed 100%! I think that’s part of the reason it stuck with me so much-the implication of being an engine beyond just a deck theme.

I could see the appeal of a card destroying all defense position monsters with how appealing lighting storm can be. Perhaps even just giving it the full effect of lightning storm as a quick effect except with defense instead of attack position monsters.

I really want to like the effect because I enjoy blanket "destroy all of this" type effects, but specifically with that, it comes up so few and far between that I have to be realistic and say that the card probably would've been cool in LOB format, if that... 😅

@@burblebineabbletv Well I do know, at least off of master duel, a fair number of people can like to put things in defense position instead of attack to avoid the lightning storm. But even then if it's a boss monster it'd likely need more than just being a reverse lightning storm on legs to be good.

My shitty Blue-Eyes deck from YEARS ago could beat this deck.

I would have loved for this to get a printing in the way a lot of modern cards are. With similar but more powerful and synergistic effects and maybe some other cards from the duel as cards in the archetype like the wandering mummies he used, or even the ordeal of a traveler card he used against Joey in the duel. Really I wish this archetype was given some love by being printed since it's part of my favorite duel in the OG series. And the other two big decks of this arc in the show have had their own printings namely Valkyries and Fairy Tails.

That's what I'm saying! The fact that the fairy tale cards got printed and these didn't is baffling. I get that the fairy tale cards were more than likely more a fan favorite/demanded, but with Grandpa being such an integral character in the protagonist gang, I can't fathom why the Ancient Deck wasn't printed alongside the fairy tale cards.

I liked falon who dueled joey in the orichalcos saga his cards were armour he would attach to himself to duel with like some kind of mighty morphin duelist

Best I figure? They can keep the effects they have but they should have some added effects as well, like maybe ancient giant gets some backrow protection, maybe the tokens give monster protection while in play, maybe the gate gives your dragon protection, maybe the book lets you discard to add one of the ancient pieces to your hand if you choose not to just draw, and maybe the dragon gets to banish anything it destroys by battle or with it's effect? I'm not great at coming up with card effects, so this is off the top of my head.

Allow Ancient Gate to add 1 "Ancient" card from your deck to your hand. Simple and effective, you just add the Key to your hand, summon the Tokens and sacrifice for the Dragon. Ancient Dragon could be viable with the extra effect of sacrificing one 'Ancient' monster on your field to turn all monsters on your opponents field to defence position. It becomes a field wipe and that is always nice.

Honestly, I'm not sure if it's because the anime came so long ago or that the original manga reached its 20th anniversary in 2016, but the last decade looks like they tried to prioritize cards from the manga, Eye of Illusion design screams manga desing (but I don't know if they took it from it), I believe they made a Jinzo monster of a different level to 6 because in the manga it wasn't 6. They made "Infinite Forbidden" and the comercial was voice by Yugi's grandpa VA I believe instead of printing the anime exclusive cards. That kinda lowers the chances of them printing decks like Armor or Ancient Dragon that didn't came from the manga

I'm still holding onto hope where we saw the Valkyries and Fairy Tale decks from this season of the show, but you may be onto something.

I would really like Konami to make this deck in Real life , im a Big fan OF dragons and the ancient dragon is si classy , the mix of European dragon and Asian dragon in the design is really the card exclusive to the anime that I would most like to be printed . Though yeah, honestly an interesting idea would be that similar to Ancient City Rainbow Ruins, The Ancient City could gain effects for each of the other Ancient cards you control with final effect being the Special Summon of The Ancient Dragon or maybe make all the card being on the field an alternate summoning condition to allow The Ancient Dragon to summon itself from the deck similar Red Eyes Black Metal Dragon.

Why don't you do it for the armor arctype in the next video like this, It has a cool concept.

In all honesty....i think this deck has potential, if this archtype was expanded and retrained i think it could actually be pretty fun. The initially idea in my head is they could make this arctype kind of like the millennium arctype in how it was like the cards Grandpa Moto's ancestor (forgot his name) would've used. An idea i thought of for an ancient dragon retrain was something like it has effects simmiler to the god cards but lesser because the card effect reminds me of Slifer and it could be something like "opponents mosnter set face down will be flipped and if they have less then 2000 defense, dystroy that card" or maybe just "your opponent cant set monsters" but that might be too oppressive. Idk, just throwing out ideas.

I'd say all of their effects could be reworked with the slightest change and be infinitely better. Ancient Giant, for example, retains the currents stats, but gets a Cyber Dragon-esque Special Summon effect, even if it gets a nerf by needing to control or revealan Ancient Spell Card 🤷‍♂️

They need to print Plasma Eel for Marik decks

To be fair, crap cards from the anime have gotten some solid re-trains in the past. The most recent example being the "Chimera" cards of Gazelle, Berfomet and Chimera the Mythical Beast (and a new card to add to that AND its own fusion card) Granted its not some Tier 0 Op deck like Snake Eyes is right now, but its certainly solid and much better than its original counterparts. And that art, by God, that art is glorious. Point being, Ancient Dragon has a cool enough design and a cool enough premise to where a re-train could be just what it needs. Hell, you could make Ancient Dragon be an exodia and just have getting all 3 "Ancient" cards on the field, then summoning it, be an insta-win

@@thedarkebika9488 it's a emulator you download on your PC or phone. Once you download it, go into deck edit, select alternate formats, and boom! Every single anime card is there. I just made a Marik anime accurate deck and it's pretty fun. The A.I. is kinda dumb so it'll make foolish plays, but you can set it to whatever duel format you want and even duel ppl in rooms you host. Honestly it's the best way to play the game if you dont want to sink actual money into it.

My favorite part of this duel is when the Goblin Attack Force ran over and beat the crap out of Grandpa Moto.

That knock sound effect scared the bejeezus out of me

Maybe make gate burn your opponents life points instead of the burn on your lifepoints. Still not that amazing but it fits with the cards better and removes those self burns. Less you just want to run Prime Material Dragon with these cards but that defeats the boss monster lol.

ancient tome might have been meant as a combo with ordeal of a traveler and sinister serpent, so joey couldn't memorize what was in grandpa's hand turn to turn, and grandpa would keep discarding serpent

also, I'm pretty sure that in the show, a person managing to get all the cards needed for ancient dragon (not in a duel, but just obtaining the cards) was very difficult. It's like how hard it was to originally get the exodia cards in the ocg. Grandpa used this deck because he and Arthur Hawkins had a bet on who could get all the cards 1st.

@@burblebineabbletv it wasn't just an ordeal to get everything working, the bet was to see which of them could get all the cards period. Grandpa just needed to show Hawkins he had managed to get them all, but he decided to show off by actually using them in a duel. It's like how there were only 4 copies of blue eyes in the show, or how exodia's head was originally going to only be released in premium pack 1, and 2 of the limbs were promos from strategy guides.

Now, let me cook! Ancient city: Og effect + ss 1 ancient giant from hand/deck/gy(hopt) + face down cards you controll can not be destroyed by card effects Giant: Og effect + opt during your main phase 1 you can change this card to face down def + if a card or effect would destroy "ancient city" while this card is face down on your side of the field(quick effect): change it to face up atk; negate the effect and destroy that card. Key: is fine as is Tome: Og effect + you can banish this card from your gy; add 1 "ancient" spell/trap from your deck to your hand Gate: you can change any number of "ancient" cards you control face down(hopt) Dragon: Og + when this card is summoned change all monsters on your opponents side to face down def + piercing + after this monster attacks; destroy all face down def monsters your opponent controlls + if a card or effect would be activated(quick effect): you can send 1 face down card you controll to the gy; negate the effect and destroy that card It could work as a rouge strat if it finds a good enough engine to benefit from key; or just slaped together with lab

Red-Dragon Archfiend wasn't too bad back in the Synchro era. 3k generic beater that laughed at stall-happy kids. People did not run it as much in competitive but it wasn't unheard of and Swords of Concealing Light, Book of Moon, Enemy Controller, and such were fun combinations. Now think that being in the DM era when like, Goat era decks used FLIPs as half the game plan. Nowadays? yeah no chance xD

There’s an interesting idea here! I mean a Rock/Dragon Archetype that allows for this deck to function would be some new ground to explore! Along with the fact that this deck could also have access to the Fossil Fusion Archetype to really branch out its range of Monster utility since each Fossil monster and the Cards that help to make that Rock Deck work do create advantage plays to keep your opponent busy. The only problem with Today’s game is that if you aren’t playing Runick or some mix of Stun/Aggressive Graveyard Deck that can get passed A lot of the Stacked Boards these days, then trying to play Yugioh is damn near impossible with A lot of decks that use Archetype with A lot of Built-in Negates and Farm Nagates out of hands! Synchros and LINKs are Exactly what I’m talking about here! The Potential to just Get Shit on by a Bunch of BS cards is to say the least…aggravating! Because when you realize you have to start building a Functioning deck - Extra Deck First! You know you’re in for Some trouble on turn One (or Turn Two).

Would prefer them never getting adapted to tcg they would get changed far too much for them to work in the modern format. they should of printed back in classic era yugioh as for cards that can be adapted accurately I'd love to get the orichalcos deck made with it's all insane effects, it's actually possible these days due to how much more powerful decks are these days besides if numerous can get printed mostly accurate then so can orichalcos also get retrains of the Egyptian god cards which are accurate to the anime

I want to say that maybe they'd do okay if they were premiered in Speed Duel... But I think it's even too late for THAT. And definitely agree with wanting to see the Orichalcos stuff in its entirety

pretty much could adapt geh or shunnoros at full power as opposed to before look at how numerons got printed pretty accurately despite how broken they were in the anime

@@burblebineabbletv I'd like to see Arthur Hawkins use the deck himself if it's ever released in the OCG and we then get something like another Legacy of the Duelist game. And then have Solomon use the new Exodia support we just got since it's based on the cards Muran used in the old video games.

You couldn’t Tribute summon to summon The ancient dragon you need to play those cards and ancient city Arthur Hawkins even stated as such saying he had the same card but could never summon it cause it requires to be summon by ancient city

To be fair, Fire Dragon was never even seeing in a duel nor has its effect revealed. Same with Ultimate Fusion God, the Dark World Fusion monster, Cosmic Blazar Dragon and Earthbound Immortal Red Nova.

Not the Speed Duel argument! 😅 But you're probably right. As is, they are far too slow and 'old-timey' in function that Speed Duel is most likely their best home for prominence
