Wonderful selection! Having hiked through England a while back, I stopped at a similar pub in a hamlet. At some point someone shouted "Keep clear the moors". The whole pub went silent. I looked up, then around, realizing everyone was staring at me. Trying to single out one of the many great lines from the movie that came to me, I replied in my best brit accent "oi, you made me miss!" The whole place applauded and laughed and I had people buying me drinks for the rest of the night 😂

This film fascinated Michael Jackson so much with the makeup work by Rick Baker and the director that he chose them for the music video “Thriller” which ended up being the first long form music video. Obviously the makeup effects in this still hold up today better than most CGI happening in recent years. One of the reasons it’s gone down as such a classic

Yep. The first ever Oscar for Make Up and Hairstyling because it was a brand new category. The Academy introduced it after there was an industry outcry that the stunning work on 'The Elephant Man' (1980) the previous year was not recognised at all.

This movie blew minds in '81. The FX were ground breaking and as you've shown, they still hold up, I think better than a lot of CGI. The comedy was also kind of different to find in a horror movie back then and then of course the awesome soundtrack. Thank you so much, this was so fun. ✌❤

What’s interesting about the Airplane poster is that the director John Landis not only directed the Zucker Brothers’ first movie The Kentucky Fried Movie but he in a way helped with the creation of the movie Airplane. It’s a long story but the Zuckers met Landis because they wanted to make a movie but they didn’t know anything about screenwriting and Landis gave them the spec script of An American Werewolf in London to learn the format in order to write their own script which became Airplane (a parody of the movie Zero Hour).

I recently saw a reaction to this movies with a comment saying the prosthetic artist had spent 7 months making the werewolf transformation face & was upset that it was only going to be on screen for 10 seconds until he saw it on the screen & was really happy with the effect. I fully agree this is the best werewolf transformation ever & as they say, 'We will never see their like again'. I often wonder if the magic of miniatures & practical effects will come back to movies & shows because they add a sense of realism that is missing in modern CGI. So glad to see another movie that was new to both of you that I saw that the theater on release & loved since.

Such a cool movie. David was most famous for being a pepper, as in Dr.Pepper tv commercials. Griffen Dunn (Jack) is in a really cool cult movie After Hours. Actually directed by Martin Scorsese. Way different than what you’d expect from him. A movie he made around the time he made The Last Temptation Of Christ. He was having a real difficult time with that movie for a few reasons and kind of needed something different. It has several other good names in it and is one of those crazy things keep happening in the course of a night. Definitely worth a watch. Another cool movie in this sort of story telling is Into The Night with Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Pfieffer. And then there’s Something Wild with Jeff Daniel’s, Melanie Griffin, and Ray Liotta. Although that one takes place over several days. Should put all of them on your list.

there was a sequel released in the 90s called an American werewolf in Paris. But had nothing in common with this movie. Max Landis (John's son) was rumored to be working on a direct sequel but so far nothing has come about. Landis makes an appearance in the car crash seen as one of the victuma being thrown through a window. See You Next Wednesday is a fake movie that has appeared in all of John Landis's movie. They are several Blue Moon song versions featured in the movie. The slower Sam Cooke and the doowop Marcel version at the end. Landis was unable to get rights to Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London

There's really only 3 great werewolf films, The Howling, Dog Soldiers and this, I'd chuck in Howl and Silver Bullet too but there ain't much after that.

The werewolf was actually the brother of the main guy at the pub. I believe it’s stated in the BBC audio version.

@@jamesrein648Absolutely not, I'm old enough to have seen the original when it released on video, was super excited for Paris but it was terrible, it's universally acknowledged as one of the worst sequels ever made and it killed the franchise. The only good thing in it was Julie Delpy. If you like it that's fine but it doesn't take away from the fact it's bad. Watch The Howling, Dog Soldiers, Silver Bullet, Howl or Late Phases instead.
