People talk about stabilisation lack, etc, but with a rig with handles this helps stability of handheld shots. The battery life issue people talk about, well get a v-mount battery if you want to shot longer, etc. Great video, gained another subscribe from me mate!

    You can't be a filmmaker as film is not used in electronic digital cameras. You are a movie/video creator. Learn the difference. All you people still using the term film have yet to realize you don't use film. Film is a long plastic strip with emulsion that reacts to exposure to light. You use an electronic sensor and images are stored on a memory card. Big difference.

    Wonderful rig, I'd suggest you find some bike inner tube or other sort of thin rubber to add between the arca and cheese plates, since you only got one screw for it it will loosen during use (trust me) and one more suggestion would be to buy an angled HDMI adapter for the monitor so the whole rig is more flush on the sides (maybe add it even on the camera port as well) 🙃

    Outstanding, Thomas. I came across your very first video with the more expensive rig for the ZV-E10 and thought I would watch this one also. Two weeks ago I was considering selling one of my 3-DSLRs...they have served me well. Then I decided to have some fun and try building a rig. I ended-up with a Neewer universal cage kit with rods, etc. It works but the cage is so over-bearing (especially on the sides of the camera). Question: On your rig set-up, can the monitor be mounted so it is facing outward (i.e., so I could use it to record myself)? Before I take the plunge into the more expensive E-mounts, I want to try the ZV-E10 as I'm restarting my channel. Blessings to you.

    I’d say there’s a pretty big jump between the two, but there are some great cameras in between those two price points. If photography is the main thing, I’d recommend the a6700 or a7iv/a7c ii. But make sure to take lenses into account, better to have great lenses and lower end body’s than bad lenses and the best camera body’s

    @@thomasjmcclure if i get the a7iv i was thinking of getting tamron 28-75mm and 16-35mm lens. I think that would cover all the needs Or should I get prime lenses? They would be sharper but not as flexible. What would you do? Also, if you could buy only 3 lensss which would you get?

    The tamron 28-75 is great, i personally love primes. Full frame my favs are the Sony 85mm f1.8 and Sony zeiss 55mm f1.8. The 20mm f1.8 is a great wide angle. Apsc i think my fav zoom is the tamron 17-70 f2.8 and i love the sigma Contemporary series There’s a lot of amazing lenses out there to choose from There’s a lot of great lenses

    Right now a starter pack for me is the sony zve10 (you can do some pro photos specially if you are in a studio and your clients are just going to post on social media) as for lenses sigma 10-18, sigma 18-50, samyang full frame 35-150 (is roughly 52mm to 225 on the zve10) got pretty much all focal lengths for must jobs and enough speed for must scenarios, then specialized primes according to your needs. You can upgrade the body to full frame later with the 35-150 (sorry for the poor English)

    No ND filter on the matte box or on the lens?

    @thomasjmcclure

    Not within a $500 budget for the entire rig no. The large rig I did for the zve10 and a6700 both have good nd options. My favorites are the freewell mist VND set

    @@thomasjmcclure Not having a ND filter will lead you to get you some issue for the correct expose in different scenario. Isn't it. Maybe in a "real ready to use camera rig" a cheap ND could be the answer?... I saw the video about the a6700, good choise I belive, but the cost way more than an variable aperture ND filter

    Well aware yes. As i said, my primary recommendation is the freewell VND filters. About $100 a piece. The mattbox system mentioned in the a6700 rig is more expensive than the thread on filters yes, but not as expensive as other full matte box systems. And it is also a variable system by the way
