As a past avid collector of antiques I can say, if you know what you are looking for and you know makers etc. Amazing deals can be found. Heck I would find things at garage sale and thrift store for next to nothing. People were shocked at the deals I got. I once got 6 antique dining chairs for $10 each when in reality they were worth $450 each. You just have to know how to play the game. Besides it's no ones business how anyone spends their money. 😜 Your finds are always desirable and unique, they fit right into your home. BTW plates were tilted that way to keep dust off the eating surface. I was told that because my Dad had a fussy old aunt that always made sure we put them in "properly"

We love to go along on your shopping trips. Please keep filming them for us when you are able. Most of us understand that your antique treasures are found by, as you said, your research and readiness to go to out of the way locations to retrieve them. Also, it seems that France has an extra abundance of some of these pieces, especially very large antique items which cannot be accommodated to fit the smaller house of the present day; therefore, the purchase price is more reasonable for those of you who live in the larger manor houses or chateaus. It is always exciting to see you save and restore any historic artifacts.

I completely understand your explanation of why people might think you have unlimited amounts of money. I was a nurse for 40 years and I love antiques. Nurses in the geriatric field do not make a lot of money. That said, I have had to scrimp and save and search to find the items I truly loved. eBay, yard sales, estate sales were the places I found many of my 'treasures'. Some people who visit my home seem to think I am 'loaded' with cash and that is simply untrue. Much like you boys, planning for the future and the style in which you want to live is a thoughtful process. But the raised eyebrows and hints that money is not an issue by others, for me is sometimes exhausting. Best to you both.

Who could miss that "vaisselier élégant" standing behind you? Patrick and Stuart, you certainly have a talent for great auction finds. I was curious about the tilting of the plates; the history lesson is appreciated. I can imagine your delight discovering the grapefruit liquor cocktail. Similarly, two years ago, I discovered St. Ides made a grapefruit liquor as well as blood orange. The original St. Ides was an elderberry liquor which I found was half the price of the French St. Germaine (also elderberry), but tasted almost identical. If I hadn't tried the French liquor in the first place, I probably would have never tried the St. Ides which eventually lead me to their grapefruit flavor. See, Patrick, you're not the only one who digresses... my point is that I'm sure that our cocktails🍸 are similar and they are both truly delicious.

Yourtwo are just fabulous! My Wednesdays and Fridays are richer for having a peek into your chateau journey, you make me laugh out loud--which takes something to accomplish. For your Wedgwood Madeleine dishes - there is a company in the US - Replacements Ltd. - they have some items in that pattern, not all. It's not cheap, but some is available. Love your new dish aabinet with the clock - keep it the way it is, no grooves added, no additional trim to "make" the dishes stand up, I vote with tradition in this instance.

I live in New Zealand and I bought a French table and chairs, French china cabinet and a large chiffonaire all carved in a 2nd hand shop in Auckland. The set is beautiful and I have never seen French furniture in anyone else’s house here.

The mandolin shape of the clock is so unusual and eye-catching, and the scale of the piece is what the kitchen needs. Great score! Auctions are so unpredictable; all depends on who happens to be watching. So much fun to land a bargain!

I'am glad you both still can laugh. You both have a delightful laughter 🙂. Love all the pieces you bought. The cabinet is extra ordinary with the clock in the middle. The Wedgewood Porcelain Madelaine is gorgeous. Restoring and acquiring needed furniture cost a lot for a such a large chateau, but my opinion is that It's nobodies business how you spend your money. But wine and food is a must😅😅😅 Here temperature is about 26-29 degrees outside 🌞🌞. Enjoy the weekend. Hugs and kisses also for the 11th furries. 😘🥰🌻

Gonnie, we laugh every day. The cabinet is very rare. And it fits like a glove. I agree….. wine and food are a must….. and we will have plenty of both when you come to visit. 😊❤😊
