I would recommend the old tv- series/films where David Suchet is playing Poirot over the newer films. He is so good, and the atmosphere is 💋.

Suchet was the best! I thought the Suchet version of Death on the Nile was WAY better than the Peter Ustinov version from the 80s. And I don't think I even wanna see the new version after the way they butchered the recent Murder on the Orient Express movie with Kenneth Branagh and Johnny Depp.

@@camillafladberg673 Some of the new adaptations are so outrageous. I get the idea of updating some aspects of Christie's novels and trying to draw in new readers, but so many of the recent adaptations are horrible (like The Pale Horse with Rufus Sewell!). However, I did like the recent-ish adaptation of And Then There Were None with Aidan Turner and Charles Dance. It was a fresh, modern retelling that stayed true to the original storyline and tone.

@@nicoledorman8484 well, it was the 80s, so we didn't have internet and our parents wouldn't pay for cable tv, haha. So we read books or rode our bikes to Baskin Robbins for ice cream and that was a typical summer day. Sometimes I would go over to her house and she was so excited about a book that she made me read it right then and there. So I would sit in her room reading the book while she stared at me waiting for me to finish. One of those books was Arms and the Man, a play by George Bernard Shaw. I recommend it.

I have never paid this much attention to a video. When you were reading And Then There Were None, I was like “what’s he gonna say next? Is he gonna get it? Omg he’s right AGAIN?!” You we’re absolutely killing it with these guesses. A modern day Box Carr Boy over here! I played Vera in my towns production of this and it is SUCH a good play! Oh I would definitely recommend Crooked house which is a standalone novel. Mara from Bookslikewhoa has read all Christie novels and has several excellent non spoiler videos about them if you need more information about Marple, Poirot or something else she wrote. Also the series with David Suchet is a must watch and is very Midsommer murdery set in the 1920-1950. He is the perfect Poirot. The older movies are also good.

Those are good videos from Mara. There's also a long-running podcast called 'All About Agatha' where the hosts are reading and ranking every Christie novel. They're also reading all the short story collections, but they're not ranking those. One of the co-hosts sadly died in December, but the other co-host is pressing on. He's down to the final 3 or 4 novels. It's very good.

Poirot is absolutely sassy and dramatic and sometimes mean! But I love him for it :P I am so glad you enjoyed your first agatha christie read, murder on the orient express. YES and then there none is still my favourite agatha christie and I love that you loved it too. And you were so good at working out who was going to die next in that one. You did a good job sleuthing and solving death on the nile! That was one I got too as well :3 Yes, her books are very character driven and all you really get of the setting is that it is isolated. All Christie fans love Poirot's grand reveal scenes :D Some people get the roger ackroyd off the bat but I absolutely didn't simply because I didn't think she would dare. I also don't necessarily try and solve the crimes while reading though, I actively try to avoid doing that because Christie does have a pattern to her books and it would become too easy :P But I accidentally solved murder on the orient express and death on the nile without really trying to. And yes, I don't know the how ever though, like you! LOVED THIS VLOG SO MUCH

I had decided to read the entire Agatha Christie canon this year, in chronological order. I am using the All About Agatha podcast as a guide, reading, and then listening to that episode right after. I am reading the physical books, but listening to the short stories. The ones narrated by Hugh Fraser (Hastings in the Suchet series) are the best. I have been getting them from my library.

The twist for The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was surprising when it was written for 2 reasons, first of, no one back then really used the unreliable narrator trope as much as it’s used today. Second, since Sheppard was helping Poirot in the investigation, more or less, people would have been less suspicious of him, it would be like reading a Holmes novel where the killer is revealed to be Watson

I read my first Agatha Christie when I was eleven. It was And Then There Were None and I read it in one sitting. That book was the reason I became a reader. I've read all Christie's mysteries and I love almost all of them. I'm loving how excited you are and how much fun you're having reading these. That's the spirit. We read and reread her books for fun, to play detective and to enjoy the thrill her writing gives us.
