An afternoon at Crewe Station - 7th August 2014

Here I am, back with another compilation from one of my local station's, Crewe. A pretty boring Thursday with nothing to do turned into one of the best day's at Crewe action wise by far, expecting some good sights and a day out in the warm weather, but ended up seeing movements that are very unusual for Crewe.
As ever, I bumped into some spotters/friends of mine and as requested, they are listed below.

Action from the afternoon is displayed below -
- Starting with a messy lens, Colas Rail Tamper DR 73942 departs Platform 12 giving a nice tone working ichfield Tv C E Sidings to Penrith North Lakes.
- DRS Class 57 57309 'Pride of Cheshire' was in the siding when I arrived at the Station, here we see the driver start-up the 57 in Platform 8. This was to prepare for an internal move into the thunderbird siding where the 57 belongs.
- Les Ross' own 86 86259 is seen arriving into the Station working 0Z04 to Carnforth Steamtown. This was to eventually position in to Edinburgh to complete a three day stint of tours to the capital.
- DRS Class 57 57309 'Pride of Cheshire' departs Platform 8 then heads onto Platform 12 to position into its usual resting place.
- Due to a double fatality at Birmingham New Street, the earlier desiro service to Liverpool was cancelled, so London Midland put an 8 car on unlike the 4 car. Here we see 350 119/120 departing Platform 11 giving a tone for the engineers behind working one of the usual passengers services for Liverpool Lime Street.
- DRS 66304 is seen accelerating away from Platform 12 after a driver change working 4S44 Daventry Drs - Coatbridge FLT.
- Royal Mail Electric Class 325, 325 004 is seen entering Platform 12 working a test run Crewe T.M.D - Crewe T.M.D via Stafford.
- DRS liveried 90034 is seen passing light working 0A06 Crewe T.M.D to Wembley Eur Frt Ops Cntre.
- DRS new liveried Class 37 37423 'Spirit of the lakes' is seen arriving and departing Platform 8 working one of the many Derby RTC (Network Rail) - Crewe Gresty Bridge DRS light engine moves. This particular one is 0Z02
- One of the best moves of 2014 by far. Network Rail Sandwich DVT 82119/67030 in the middle/82111 is seen arriving into Platform 8. We then look at details of this unique movement, then we see it departing Platform 8 working 5Z69 Northampton Castle Yard - Derby RTC (Network Rail).
- A very unusual working on this one, DB Shed 66194 leads 67003 in tow with a JGA wagon + flatbed working Crewe T.M.D - Bescot Down Side.
- A first ever time (?), Cross Country Turbostar 170 is seen arriving into Platform 11 working 5Z70 Tyseley - Crewe C.S. This is in for a refurb. Probably the first of many.

Yes looks a great afternoon and some good shots there. I have always gone to Stafford for freight traffic as much does not come through the Stafford- Stoke- Crewe loop where I live. Thanks for the video and platform information. I shall be taking my camera to Crewe the next time I shoot. Loved the Class 37 particularly.

question...I notice some trains have a red badge/shield on the side. Most don't. Why is that?

Well I believe that the train companies only name certain trains, the "badge" you see is actually called a nameplate, but trains were only named if they were "special" for say, This has been going since the birth of the railways themselves, the steam era, British Rail Era and todays era the "Privatised era
