    Keep in mind, he showed the arcade, and to be honest with you, as he was walking up and down, he didn't show everything. And also, the man literally owns the entire block. So, if you walk down five minutes, you'll keep on seeing other stores owned by Galloping Ghost, where he keeps his arcades. Because, believe me, he is fixing up this stuff, Doc. And he always has something going on. And they do a lot of reproduction work. So, they got other things going on as well. But, if you walk down the block, they got a pinball arcade. And they do have a couple arcades in the pinball arcade. Like, for example, Pac-Man, because it's one of those unique Pac-Mags, where you play Pac-Man like normal, but when you go into the tunnels, it's all pinball at that point.

    32:55 Yeah, when I take the woman out there, believe it or not, she's playing more than me. Which is kind of funny. I think really, and this is a lot of people I've noticed, there are people who like to just come in here to appreciate the ambiance. Because there's so much to look at. And I actually have gotten this as well when I'm in there playing Mortal Kombat, or let's say Street Fighter the movie, because as a kid I always wanted to play it, even though the game has got awful. People come up to me and they're like, man, this place is like a museum. And it really is. So, well, she's wasting three or four hours here, and I've probably played three or four or five games. And when I say play them, I mean lightly. And she's really into it from start to end for some of the games. I just like looking at everything. It's sort of like my Mortal Kombat 2 Deluxe, the new arcade one-up that they just released. I just like putting on Mortal Kombat 2, putting it on demo mode, and just looking at it. That's it. I guess as I'm getting older, I'm getting a little bit more simple on what I like to see and what I want. So yeah, the 25 to me is not only to support the cause, because remember, people do beat up these things. I mean, sadly, the Mortal Kombat 1 machine that's custom built, you know, there are people who come in here, for example, two kids were on that Mortal Kombat 1 machine trying to literally scam Doc by logging in, trying to buy Dragon Coins and other DLC, which to me was really disgusting. But you really need to visit Prince's Arcade next time you go up there.

    My wife likes arcade games but not enough for me to bring her there. I think she’d end up bored fairly quickly. It’s interesting yours was in to playing one game for long periods. I mainly sampled the games I played. There was just so much to try I didn’t want to spend too much time on just one. If you’re local, you’re really lucky. We don’t have anything like this in San Antonio. One of the biggest/most populated cities in the country doesn’t have a good arcade. It’s sad. I’ll try Prince’s next time too. I almost went but ran out of time.

    Nice video. I heard some arcade machines were loaned/given to Galloping Ghost on the condition they never publicly dump the roms for Mame. @@KillerArcadeGames - To be clear, Doc Mack does have rom back ups of all the rare arcade games at Galloping Ghost. If a rare prototype arcade board breaks, it will not be lost forever. Doc Mack just won't share them publicly with the internet. On Social Media (I think Facebook), Doc Mack has made posts where he discusses the topic in more detail. Doc said that while he appreciates what Mame does, he feels its best to honor the owners wishes, and to maintain a good relationship with people. Several rare arcade cabinets were given/loaned to Galloping Ghost only because Doc Mack has such a good reputation within the gaming community. He honors agreements with people that ask him not to dump the roms online. People trusted him to be a good caretaker of these vintage and rare games. Doc Mack also said he agrees that it's important to offer an exclusive experience you can't get at home with emulation. By offering rare arcade games, it gives people a reason to visit the arcade and play it on original hardware. He wants people to experience what it was like to play at an arcade in the 80s and 90s. He loves the face to face interaction between players. I think I agree with Doc Mack. The online experience just isn't the same as playing in person.

    @@KillerArcadeGames Oh yeah, and believe me, Cook County property taxes here are no joke. So again, he just bought out the Chinese restaurant right next door and he's constantly buying out property to expand. It's simply amazing. You know, you'll see the gym down the street, the arcade, and his various production shops. The guy does a lot. As someone who's from the south side of Chicago, who lives not too far away, it's nice to see that he is investing so heavily with his community. Because think about it, a lot of these stores would have gone out of business and he's literally revitalizing that entire strip. So I'm sure that hotel owner, I think it's the Colony Inn, and some of the other businesses appreciate what he brings to the table. Oh, and let's not forget, he has a partner, so good for both of them.

But at least they had "SPIDERS "ELIMINATOR" "STAR TREK" "STAR CASTLE" "VENTURE" "SPACE FURY" & about 13 others that are among my favorites. Other than that, I would be stuck there, playing all of those games as much as I can, until I burn out. Seriously, kid in me is just in shocked of how many cool stuff there is, despite the fact that I'm a month away from been 30 years old. It's kind of funny, but it's sort of like if you ever go to Amazon Go, where the shopping bags and everything literally say, just walk out. And people tell people, your first time shopping there, you're going to feel like a thief because you literally just walk out. In fact, you could put food, drinks in your pockets and walk out. So Galloping Ghost and really Killer Arcade Games perfectly pointed this out. And this is actually how I feel. I felt overwhelmed. My first couple of times going, I would go in, play one or two games, but I would mostly look at everything because it's a lot. I mean, really. Just everything here, if your senses get overwhelmed, chances are you're going to be doing more looking rather than playing, and there's nothing wrong with that. I mean, you're paying $25 to really experience the ambience of the place. And of course, if you pay $30, you walk down the street because Doc literally owns the entire block almost, aside from a couple of different restaurants. So you could walk down five minutes down there. You'll see store after store he owns, and then you have the Pinball Arcade, which is really smaller. So yeah, there is a lot. One of the unique arcades that I saw that I've never seen anything like this is actually at his Pinball Arcade. So again, you pay $30, you got access to everything for the entire day. They actually have a Pac-Man that is also a pinball machine. So you play Pac-Man like normal, but when you go into the tunnels, it goes into a sort of pinball mode. So it's really unique. I think you're going to enjoy yourself there. But if you feel overwhelmed and you don't play a lot of games, don't feel like you wasted your money. Trust me, the experience, you don't have to play everything. It's the experience.

    Klax cab is kind of hard to find but you can play it on Sega Genesis or Atari Lynx. 🙄😆 Or you can get an emulator and just play it on your phone or Laptop/PC! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Bonk’s Adventure cab! That was originally on the TurboGrafX-16/PC-Engine! 😳 Was there a Dungeons & Dragons cab in there?!? Also I only think or counted maybe a baker’s dozen machines were out of order. That’s not bad at ALL considering 900+! 🤩

    Yeah Juno First which I’ve never played but want so badly to play! 🤨🙄 Because I’ve played Phoenix and its sequel Pleiades although Juno First isn’t totally related to those games. So much to unpack here! Discs of Tron which is Dope 🔥! I just wish they had the Environmental cab! That Sega Star Trek is Awesome and I played in a sit down one two months ago in an arcade way north of where I Live for the first time in almost 35 years! 🙄 Yeah CyberSled and Tournament CyberBall 2072! 👏😎 Seeing that SubRoc 3D was Awesome! I haven’t played that in 35 years! 🙄 I would also go there just to play COTTON! Which is hard to find for my Sega Saturn and would cost over $300 or $400! 😳 I think you missed the aisle where they have another one of my favorites called Prehistoric Isle which is a side ( horizontal) scrolling shooter where you play as a Jacked WW1 Biplane fighting Dinosaurs! 😎 Otherwise a Great video! Probably the best one I’ve seen In Galloping Ghost! 🤩 Thanks! Oh No S.T.U.N. Runner was broken! 😞

    What happens if the screens or circuit boards quit working? Are most things fixable on original arcade machines?

  • @KillerArcadeGames

    @KillerArcadeGames

    8 ай бұрын

    The monitors are very repairable. Well, the monitor chassis (circuit boards) are very repairable. For the most part, a lot of the components in the PCBs are replaceable which gives them new life essentially. The tubes themselves can be rejuvenated but after a certain point, they’ll be unrepairable. Game circuit boards are a little more tricky. In some cases, skilled repairers can fix them. Some of the parts aren’t made anymore like processors and others I’m not good enough to list lol. But most game PCBs can have very long life spans if kept clean and run within its temperature limits. If you think about, when you see Pac-Man arcade games, the game PCB has likely operated for thousands or tens or thousands of hours and they still work. If processors or parts that aren’t made anymore fail, people usually keeps dead PCBs for parts and can pull working parts from bad boards to keep one running. A great channel to learn more about repairing arcade monitors and even some game board repair is Mike’s Amateur Arcade Monitor Repair. He owns an arcade in Wichita that’s awesome and has become really skilled at repair the components. He’s helped me out and I’ve bought some monitors from him.

  • @KillerArcadeGames

    @KillerArcadeGames

    8 ай бұрын

    I forgot to add: the arcade monitor’s PCBs aren’t tied to the tube. They can be pulled from the tube and installed on another tube if the tube itself goes bad. Some old CRT TVs can be used with those arcade monitor chassis’ (PCBs). So if you have an old CRT, don’t throw it out, list it on Facebook for free and someone will likely take it. I’ve got a couple of old TVs in storage so I can use the tube if I ever need it.

My friend jeff and I could beat it together on 1 quarter each. 3 players make it easier, 1 player is tough, and if you haven't rescued or saved the correct characters towards the end, no amount of continues can save you from competition.
