I was going on my first cruise probably around 2008 and saw this on the side of the highway to the hotel, my poor mom walked me down the side of the highway from the hotel that night so I could get a few rides on it, I argued that it didn't feel like a vacation without a rollercoaster ride, mom's still around but seriously I don't think she knows it's one of my favorite memories with her. meant the world to me and now knowing the fate of it I'm honored to have ridden, and loved, this beautiful ride. 😢

South Florida native of 27 years here! I remember Boomers in its prime and when the Dania Beach Hurricane opened! LOVED this coaster, I went on it so many times with everyone I could get to come with me. An amazingly intense ride with tons of airtime, especially for kids like me! It's such a shame that Boomers was torn down and became just another shopping center (across from another shopping center ironically), when it used to be such a fun family spot. Thanks so much for covering this literal piece of my childhood, it felt incredibly nostalgic to see a video on this coaster's history.

I'm so glad a big theme park history channel has finally covered this!!! Absolutely surreal to see such a staple of my childhood covered like this (you even mentioned the name of the street I spent the first 21 years of my life living on!), and I loved Boomer's so much as a kid and have so many stories to share about it, beyond just being creeped out by that weird mustachioed face over the entrance you showed in some of the clips. The old, closed Boomer's arcade building sat abandoned beside the go-kart track for many years as the go-karts remained in operation. There was very little signage for the go-karts, and it was in the middle of a lot of empty land and warehouses, and you had to walk around to the back of a creepy abandoned building to find a handful of teenagers running the track, usually pretty bored because business was far from booming (pun intended). Very weird feeling. Plus, there were several safety scandals with the go-karts, including long hair getting caught in the motors and causing injuries. They started telling girls to put their hair in ponytails, but I don't really know how much that could've helped. All that said, it was a huge and awesome course. Still hands-down the best I've ever seen. Watching the coaster sit abandoned by the highway for years and years was so depressing-I really regret not riding it as a kid. My only memory of seeing it up close was walking down the boardwalk to its gate with my dad when he rode it-I had to be six years old or younger at the time. It's one of those early childhood memories that's just a snapshot of a moment, but it's always stuck out to me. And I guess a little fun fact I can share just by knowing the geography of the area is that if the coaster were still standing today, those POV videos would have a great view of the Hard Rock guitar hotel (if you could call a view of that eyesore "great"). It's been so sad to see my lovely, weird, janky little beach town of Dania get paved over with luxury shops and condos. I've only been gone since 2020, but every time go back to visit, it feels like my hometown exists less and less. I can't even afford to live there anymore, and homes are being bought up by real estate groups to turn them into full-time AirBnbs. It's a depressing change in my world. Thank you so much for covering this special little oddity. I wish you could've seen my face when I read the title of this vid. Keep up the good work!

So man field trips and parties and weekend trips. I remember going off track in the go kart track once and remember the teen working it said “oh man that’s broke yo” lol. I rode the hurricane a few times. When it first opened. It was fun. But I like the arcade and the go karts more lol. It blows my mind that it was still standing in 2013 when my daughter was born. Ponce De Leon ventured to Florida in search of the Fountain of Youth. Many "fortune seekers" set up shop in Florida to attract the young at heart. Many things have come, gone, expanded, and changed through the decades. One thing that prevails is the eternal quest for youth and fun. Thanks for the great video! Such a cliche' that an amusement venture biting the dust to a shopping mall. Then the mall being replaced by E-commerce.

I rode this coaster once and it was a rough ride. I remember thinking when it first open that it was a dumb idea to build a coaster in what was essentially a game room / go-cart park. You have to understand that there were no other midway rides that you would expect at a county fair for that matter. It just didn’t make sense and was out of place. It was also expensive to ride and I never saw it at full capacity. Considering that Orlando is a 2 hour drive and Tampa a 3 hour drive it was not planned well.

Rode it dozens of times in 2007/2008ish. I was attending classes not far from the coaster and unlimited bands were only like $7 or $8 for weekdays. Went a few times and it was always a walk on, marathon all you want; sometimes you were the only person the on the train. By that time only one train existed, the second train was basically cannibalized down below the station. The turnarounds were pretty jarring as the train hunted, but the return run of bunny hills back to the station had some insane airtime.

The thought of a family fun center building a coaster like the Hurricane boggles my mind. I can't imagine that happening today, at least where I live. I'd love for a coaster manufacture to develop a model that captures the thrill of a full-on roller coaster but is affordable for something like a FFC. Chance's Hyper-GTX seems like it could be that, but only one has been built. I guess the allure of retail space is just too strong so that's where the investments go.

Thanks so much for this. I grew up in south Florida and have great memories of Grand Prix Race O Rama. As many times as we visited, we did not ever take pictures so it was really neat to see the arcades and tracks and giant mustache again!

My family frequently vacationed in South Florida when I was young to visit cousins and I got to ride this quite a bit as a kid. Honestly it was a blast, I miss it and it's a shame it got relegated to this sad fate.

I used to work at boomers from 2011-2012. It was so sad (and annoying as a cashier) to see so many people come to the location not knowing the hurricane had already been closed. And not having any reason to give them as to why. We always just told people it was owned seperately from boomers and that they filed for bankruptcy. Great video, I had always wondered what really happened.

I used to be the voice of the Dania Beach Hurricane. When you called the number I had recorded a 45 second long message all about the coaster. I watched that thing get built, it was a hot mess.

I feel so lucky to have experienced this coaster a few times. On two separate trips to Boomers! my brother and i rode it at least twice without anyone else on the train. We did the front row and the back row, the back was better. I think i was probably 12 and 13 on those trips, but my family visits Dania beach most years for Jaxson's ice cream (my great grandfather donated the White Plains Rd. Sign you pass under to enter, and my grandfather who owned an autobody shop in New York donated some of the NY and NJ vanity plates on the walls). I remember when Boomers! closed we were super disappointed because we didn't know until we were in Dania Beach. I went to FAU, which is right next to the Boca Boomers! but i never went there because it didn't have the Dania Beach Hurricane i loved so much :(

Wow! I really enjoyed the flashback in time on the seeing the best places that made life so much fun for me going to these attractions Grand Prix Race Orama, Six Flags Atlantis in Hollywood and the Dania Beach Hurricane. Fun Times in the 70's and 80's for me for theme parks especially wood roller coasters in your backyard. Disney World was an After Thought of longggg lines in hot weather waiting for hours. There was another theme park in Dania that had a wooden rollercoaster unless you've already made a video on it. It was called Pirates World! I loved those rollercoaster rides. Thanks so much for memories.

I don't know how I didn't realize until I watched this, that the comedy club I've been going to semi-regularly is where Boomers used to be. I went to Boomers all the time in college, but hadn't visited that area in nearly a decade since it closed, until the Improv opened in the new shopping center. The first time I went to this area recently, I did briefly wonder what used to be here before this popped up, but never put it together or remembered to look it up. Thanks for the epiphany!

Man, you ever randomly stumble upon a video on youtube and are suddenly hit with the visceral 'i've seen this place before' kind of gut punch reaction? that was me suddenly coming to the realization that dania beach was the theme park i went to on a field trip (i think?) as a kid. i've never been one for roller coasters (inner ear disorder means i'm probably going to have a really bad time) so i didn't ride the hurricane, but i remember we used to drive by it and it was kind of neat to have that weird foray down memory lane, especially for something that isn't one of the major (see also orlando/tampa based) parks in florida.
