Amy Winehouse died from addiction and a eating disorder. I remember when she died people made fun of her saying she should have said yes, yes, yes. It was so sad though. She had a hard life.

@@matthew8728 True. I know she did but she should've continued it at least for the sake of her poor father. Addiction is never easy and some give up bc they don't think they will ever be able to overcome it. Well, may she rip. She was a gifted singer and performer.💝🎈

Sarah Stewart Right but we must also remember how hard it is to be an addict, it’s easy for us to say she should’ve stuck it out. But we were in her shoes (an addict struggling) she needed more than rehab. She was suffering with more then addiction. May Amy RIP, a huge fan and will always be. 🖤🖤
Amy Winehouse - "Valerie" or "Me and Mr Jones". I love everything from her. When she passed away, I cried for over a week. It was like my little sister died. I was really hoping she would get better. 🥺😢😭
Amy died because of an alcohol overdose. Listen to the Back to Black album, and you'll get the story of her life/break up and relationship with her boyfriend. She is part of the 27 club, and one of my favorite, most relatable/real artist. Her drastic decline over the years to her death were truly tragic.
I remember about a year ago, I was listening to this song and this song gives such a powerful message after she died. This song sounded like a cry for help or something. The lyrics I cry about is when she "I don't ever want to drink again. I just need a friend." Those lyrics were so simple but it sounds like a diary entry.
She had genius musical feel. She was steeped in musical history and reinvented jazz and soul brilliantly.
"You Know I'm No Good" has to be next, love Amy, RIP.
"Tears dry on their own" by amy Winehouse is my favorite!!!

Valerie is actually a Zutons song, that Amy covered. Her version, arranged by Mark Ronson, is brilliant though. :)
In her documentary, it was said that Rehab was a plead for help hiding in this groovy tune.
She’s a true soul singer. Me and mr Jones is my favorite. Comes from such a deep place singing about her man.

She passed from Alcohol. She's amazing. Love this song, and watching her music trajectory...it's just tragic. RIP Amy
So glad you did Amy! "Love is a losing game" is one of her best ballads. I love that you get the old school references.
💔 💔 💔 Depression and addiction has taken so many lives. Amy will never be forgotten. 🙏
Tears dry on their own is my favorite Amy song.
Amy truly was a star. Back to Black is a phenomenal album. Doesn't seem real that she's gone, I feel like she had so much more to give musically.
I wish she did go to rehab! 🥺 RIP Amy!
"Take the box" by amy wine house
Back to Black is such a bittersweet album... She had so many upbeat sounding songs that were written about heartache and pain. Listening to it now and hearing these lyrics after her passing is almost like hearing a cry for help when it's too late❤ RIP Amy
That Hathaway line in this song is my FAVORITE!! She really loved Donny and always talked about how he was her favorite and an inspiration! I love Donny too, I feel like he doesn’t get the love like he should like other artists of his time!
I love her so much. She’s honestly one of the most talented writers of our time. Another amazing song for you to react to is Wake Up Alone or Love is a Losing Game. Those both really show off her penmanship✨🙏🏾
Awesome!!! Happy to see you getting back to Amy!! Tears Dry on Their Own. GREAT SONG. give it a listen.
OH that’s the one I recommended! I’m so grateful that u’ve listened to this one :’) I found this music quite sad because Amy Winehouse wrote this song and for me, it was a cry for help... and when she said during the song "I just need a friend" that totally broke my heart 💔 thank you for this video❤️ much love :) PS: Amy Winehouse was found dead from an alcohol overdose...
Here's some fun background of this song from a very longtime dedicated Amy fan: The song came about when Amy was walking somewhere with Mark Ronson, who produced a lot of the album, and Amy sang the hook from her head. He asked her what song that was, and she said she just made it up. He suggested they record it as a song as soon as possible, and the rest is history. You caught her clever mention of Donny Hathaway whom she loved, but she also mentions Ray Charles, whom she also admired. Her manager's name was also Raye, but it's assumed she's referring to Ray Charles. You caught the callback to Back To Black, but she also calls back to Tears Dry On Their Own with "It's just till these tears have dried." She was an incredibly smart writer. The story behind the lyrics goes; Amy went through a bad breakup with her eventual husband (and then ex again) Blake Fielder-Civil. She was drinking a lot and her record company made demands for her to go to rehab. She said no, and her Dad agreed and said she was just young and heartbroken. She eventually went to shut them up, as she sings about in the song, and they told her she wasn't an alcoholic and was just depressed at that time. Amy often wrote quite literally and autobiographical. If you want the story, you can figure it out quickly by listening to every word. All radio cares about is a hook though, which is why this one blew up more than her others in America. She was so much more than this song, which she herself didn't take too seriously. It was just fun to her, with her honest edge added into the lyrics. Disrespectful people had said many times after she passed "Well she should have gone to rehab" without knowing that she had gone many times throughout her life, and even in the song they are referring to. Unfortunately, Amy struggled with depression, bulimia, drug abuse (though she was clean for 3 years up to her final breath), and alcoholism. She died of untreated alcohol poisoning alone in her bed after going through a withdrawal. She was looking a lot more healthy in her final months aside from one tragic concert, and sounded better than ever. It was just one last mishap that did it. I miss her in this world dearly.
Rehab has the 60's soul groove amy always had a old soul. She was influenced by jazz blues legend Billie holliday. By billie similar style of singing billie holiday had struggle with alcohol drugs. Maybe she could related with her struggles. Amy had loves soul r&b jazz mostly her music is based upon. Her first debut album "Frank" is my favorite.
I love this song so much. The music, her vocals and the lyrics especially. It’s sad and defiant and she plays it perfectly in the video. Masterpiece!
The "Amy" documentary is a lot like this song, candid and raw. "In my Bed" is another great song by her that's just as candid, please try to react to it!
That's my cousin in the blue robe and hat. He was her background singer
HE CAN ONLY HOLD HER. JUST FRIENDS. ME AND MRS JONES- omg u been missing a lot of Amy greatest songs.. truly a big loss to the music industry😭
This song is like "Hey Ya". The music makes you think that the song is happy but the lyrics is quite depressing.

Jack you love to talk. Lol. Just pause the vid bc I'm trying to.listen to both your voice and it and it's affecting my brain. 😁 Anyway, great Reaction.
Don’t feel bad about talking over the songs. It’s all part of the reaction process. Makes it more real, more organic. You should check out Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, either 100 Days, 100 Nights or I Learned The Hard Way. The Dap Kings are the band behind Amy on this track and on Back to Black but had been Sharon’s backing band since the early 2000s. Sadly Sharon passed away in 2016 but they have an amazing catalogue of music behind them (they even did a cover of Janet’s What Have You Done For Me Lately).

Her death resulted from years of heavy substance use (including alcoholism) and a body further weakened by bulimia. The bulimia started much earlier in her teens, At 27 her body gave out.

She wrote Rehab in under 30 minutes & went straight to the studio to lay it down - she really was in a class of her own. Amy's voice, lyrical content and attitude were SO unique - her talent was legendary. You mentioned Hathaway (one of her fav Artists), so here's a link to her covering his track 'I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know' - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZWpmrKOrpsunoco.html mesmerising, haunting and such emotive vocals...basically what she did best. ❤️🖤
I remember this came out in 2007 and it was the first Amy song I fell in love with. Definitely react to her "Tears Dry On Their Own". I just love her singing voice ❤
Black is the street name for the drug she struggled with for years, she and her man. Same in Back to Black, when she had issues with him she went back to black - that drug. They were both H addicts, sadly. Tragedy she lived the life and suffered the demise of those she admired, and unfortunately emulated. Great talent gone and joined the '27 club'.
She did eventually go to rehab. Problem is, when you’ve been sober for a while and suddenly start back again, your tolerance is diminished and your body can’t handle what it used to. Check out some stuff from her Frank album from 2004. Preferably live like Sessions at AOL. Totally different vibe, but definitely awesome.
My favorite clip of Amy is Amy Winehouse - Valerie (Acoustic, Live, Best Quality). It's just her amazing voice and an acoustic guitar and she sounds amazing.
I think the reason you're feeling conflicting emotions is because whilst her determination and bravado seem empowering and uplifting (like walking out on an awful 9 - 5 job) she still obviously needed help and was refusing to admit it. Great, honest reaction.
RIP Amy Winehouse! 🙏🙏🙏
amy is just amazing, and the songs are powerfull for being so personal to her please react to her "tears dry on their own" or "love is a losing game" ♡
Lauryn Hill's "Lose Myself" is another with a similar contrast and outstanding song writing.
She was one of my first favourite artists. I used to be teased in second grade for liking her lol
If you havent seen the documentary about her I recommend it. It definitely puts her music into context. It will break your heart and endear her to you a lot more.
If you do her song Valerie make sure you check out the album version but also the live unfiltered version its just her sitting in like a living room in front of mike with a guitarist.....its amazing!
Other amazing Amy songs "You Know I'm No Good", "Love is a Losing Game", and "Tears Dry On Their Own"
If you love Hathaway, you should check out Amy’s rendition of I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know by Him! Really stunning. Also I love your interpretation of this, I know what you mean about the almost sort of offbeat sound, Amy loved Jazz and loved 60’s girl group bands so her sound is very unique and doesn’t follow a typical pop music pattern. Her other songs that are absolutely fantastic I’d suggest are “You Know I’m No Good” and “Wake Up Alone”. Thanks for doing more Amy, there aren’t enough reactors checking her stuff out!
You Know I'm No Good or Love Is A Losing Game by her are the best, amazing lyrics as usual by Amy!
I really like her vibe .
This song wasn't really glorifying her refusal to get help as many think. It's a realization that she needs help, but the person who could help her (her dad) thinks she's fine. She's unlikely to open up to the people in rehab because she's guarded and from past experience she thinks rehab doctors don't really get her. Music was her therapy, but it wasn't enough, she needed someone (like her father or a friend) to take control and make her get help. She was surrounded by enablers and people who were just as bad as her. I read an article that said she was visited by a doctor the night before she died. She told him she started drinking again and didn't want to die. She died of alcohol poisoning the following day. When she said "This me? Yeah, baby. Better than the rest," it's British culture cavalier attitude. A kind of knowing facetious defiance. Almost like the American "what, me worry?" If you want to hear another poetic song about drug addiction check out "Toy Soldiers" by the former Prince protege, Martika. Yes, Eminem sampled this but the original is a lyrical masterpiece as it tells a story that rarely gets told.
Bro please react to Amy Winehouse Valerie:)
She def was unique, miss her. Great reaction bro. Check Mariah's "All I Ever Wanted" 🔥

If you dig the music and instrumentals of lots of Amy songs, the band The Dap Kings was originally paired with the one and only Sharon Jones, who was an incredible artist. Some highlight songs would be “I Learned the Hard Way”, “100 Days, 100 Nights”, and they do a fabulous cover of This Land is Your Land. Check them out!
