When I was growing up, I wanted to BE her so bad, I admired her talent and beauty. I am now agnostic, but I look back at this with fond memories. I still enjoy listening to her lovely voice.

That's a very young Michael W. Smith on the piano. He was about 25 years old. Remember, the year is 1982-the same year we also lost dear brother Keith Green.

Amy can belt out the songs and they tend (the words) to touch hearts. She sing lots of songs that tell us what God says we should do as Christians. She was just a teenager when she started singing and writing some great Godly songs. She is blessed. Thanks for the memories of me becoming a Christian back in the day.

Hi Everybody! I was singing with the Meadowbrook Estate Ensemble at the Ren Cen when Amy Grant was next door at the Ford Auditorium with her Age to Age tour. I went thru the back stage entrance, past security and listened to her sound check before the concert. She invited me back after my concert and hers and spoke with me at great length. At that time Michael W. Smith was her accompanist. Her songs greatly encouraged my faith and gave us young adults something 'hip' to listen to. Thank you Amy for putting yourself out there as a pioneer of contemporary music. I gave out at least 15 of Amy's Age to Age tapes for spreading the news of Christ and his love for all of us. I met her one more time at Meadow Brook Music Festival after her Unguarded Concert. Best wishes to her and her family.

God only knows Amy's heart now and then. I recall fondly how I had just had a spiritual awakening in the early 80's. I went to the Christian book stores to load up on Amy and her praise music. Just loved her music. I could sense even then that Amy was in it for the fame. You could tell very much that she was headed down the road to fame and fortune. I loved her music nonetheless. The lyrics were wonderful and good, but her life was headed on a collision course due in time. I didn't put all my faith in this singer as many followed her did, and when she fell from grace, I wasn't totally shocked but it hurt anyhow to see such a wonderfully blessed person could go from this to that (secular music not glorifying God). Not to be judgmental for God only sees the heart and motives of people in the spotlight. I believe they both (Amy and Gary) were sincere even though.

What a judgmental comment, "Judy Scott." How dare you accuse her of being 'after fame'? And many have described fame as the 'most powerful drug in the world.' Because it can be heady to have lots of people praising you, clapping for you, crying and singing along with you."

  • @lulu5803

She didn't "fall from Grace" though. She's as saved today as she was when she first confessed Jesus as her saviour as far as anyone besides Amy and God know. Anyone who puts their faith in an earthly person is bound for disappointment. Stop doing God's job. He's got this.

I love this concert video! I have seen her in concert 3 times in my youth and not one of them have ever been a disappointment. I've been reading a few of the posts here online and I wanted to say, "You who are w/o sin, cast the first stone." I'm sure she is well aware of what she has done in her past. But, it is NOT for us to judge. I hope that God finds his way into your hearts, ye who are desperate to ridicule.

*Thank you for posting this early concert - stuff like this is **_really_** hard to find!* *I discovered Amy Grant in 1984/1985 - incredibly, it was the favored music of the 18 year olds working for me (at local theatre).* *I was pretty shocked that at the peak of "Punk Rock", **_this_+ was what our kids were listening to! I was also _glad_** as it allowed me to "OK" their playing of music at low volume while they were working - I didn't have to play the big baddie who banned music at work! After hearing her various albums (they brought them all in, and played them pretty much all day, with a smattering of Windham Hill [George Winston] thrown in), I actually went out and bought them all for my home music collection! I was likely the only middle ager listening to grant at that time in her career - and she's been with me ever since.* *My only issue with Grant was when she decided to switch from her faith based material to more secular "pop music": ahe broke my heart when she went off the rails into secular crap music. She never completely returned to her roots, but she came close after a roughly deacde-long break. Once that break was over, I was back on board with her, and I'm still here today, almost 35 years after I first heard her beautiful voice.* *Considering I'm not a religious guy, it's interesting that I always found her early music felt, literally, like a religious experience! She was so joined into her faith and its expression, that it came right through the speakers and landed right on top of your heart!* *Again, thank you for posting this treasure!*

What's wrong with Christians using their God-given talents to make a living? It's perfectly honest. She and her tour mates are such talented musicians they use their gifts to both help the world AND make a living to support their families. I am 52 now and I still listen to all of her songs, even the secular ones! 4 weeks ago I should have been dead in a horrific car accident wrapped around a tree , and I am literally being pieced back together very painfully. It's so sad that in recent video it is clear that she had a LOT of plastic surgery done, and for what purpose I can't even imagine. In 1982 I was 7 years old, and the youngest child in my family of 11 siblings. Many of my older siblings were in their teens at the time, those who were still living at home. I remember hearing Amy Grant a lot, we had records of her and heard her on the local Christian radio station (WBCL, FM 90.3, Fort Wayne, IN). One of her songs mystified me as a wee lad: "El Shaddai". That phrase sounded to me like "Thou shall die". That's how I heard it; I wasn't familiar with Hebrew then. That's what I remember most about Amy Grant--her "El Shaddai" sounding like "Thou shall die". Then again, I was born without ears, so I needed big, bulky Walkman-style bone conduction headband hearing aids, so it wouldn't be far-fetched for me to mis-hear things. I have heard some whoppers, and this "El Shaddai = Thou shall die" is just one of them.

One of the very first Christian concerts I went to. Our youth group saw this tour at the old Bronco Bowl in Dallas 1982. Never have forgotten how well she sang and how well Michael played. Was a memorable concert.

What a great entertainer Amy is..puts her whole heart in it.. naturally. Gary's voice is Amazing and full & like Amy says he was one of the best song writers of that day,...but his voice is not like that anymore, nor the deep quality in his writing like before. I pray He finds it all once again. I love the band and back up singers amazing voices! I think...when we are Born with gifts....then when we make mistakes that effect those gifts values...we lose the power it was meant to keep forever. Where as those who did not have that exactly but they live up to the lights given them that their gifts can get better. God giveth and He taketh away. Every word...every step we take matters.

Your entire argument is flawed; the reason millions of people connected with Amy Grant is the very fact that she was flawed, and repeatedly acknowledged that she wasn't perfect. She sang it in her songs: Faithless Heart, Cry A River, Shadows, even way back in the beginning, in the opening lines of Father's Eyes. That was her whole rhetoric; that NOBODY is perfect, yet we are ALL worthy of LOVE. AND she never uttered a judgmental word about anybody; unlike yourself. Don't let hate fuel you.

Well Saints were flawed too according to scripture, so not sure why you felt you needed to shoot his statement down. I think what he was saying is that Amy dropped a seed of faith into him. In order to have the impact on people like she does, she would have had to have been led by the Holy Spirit.
