At 32:17 the U P crossed over the former Santa Fe [now BNSF] tracks, which head north to Albuquerque NM. The "El Pasoan" operated over these tracks into El Paso. Further south-east the N de M's sole international passenger train "El Presidente Juarez", after crossing the Rio Grande, used the Santa Fe tracks into El Paso Union Station.

Absolutely. All thousand whatever miles between LA and NOLA. Rode #2 from Houston to Beaumont TX and it was nice for just $15. Granted some will say it was a slow trip I liked it for the railfan purpose. Sunset route is simply too busy of a route for any kind of abandonment.
