Amtrak's Empire Builder Passes the Loram Grinder in Pewaukee, Wisconsin!

5/17/24-I went to Pewaukee this evening for a nice, relaxing evening of train watching. Didn't realize I was going to get to see the Loram Grinder! They were taking a break on the siding, and the eastbound Empire Builder was coming by right on schedule! New ALC-42s 337 & 338 lead the way over the Oakton Avenue crossing in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Enjoy!

I checked the spot on the Google maps and as I understand it, the first car wanted to go straight ahead, i.e. across the crossing and thus had to stop and wait for the train to pass, but the pulled-over car wanted to turn right onto the road that is parallel with the railway track and thus didn't want to wait for the first car to move and passed it on the left. Now, I don't know anything about American traffic rules, so could please someone tell me what rules did he break with that maneuver?

I take the Empire Builder from Spokane to Portland semi-regularly, seeing how far it goes is such a trip

I've taken it from Chicago to Portland - a fascinating ride! So much different scenery! Unfortunately, I was asleep when we went through Spokane, but that Columbia River Valley before you get into Portland is gorgeous!

I was with you until you said the Empire Builder was on schedule.

Keep in mind, this one was heading west (so less than 100 miles into the trip). Eastbound - yeah, that would've been a miracle!

Not always! I live up here, but if I'm travelling, I'll take some as well! There's some older ones on the channel from Kansas, back when I used to live there.
