Amtrak Phase VII P42 duo lead California Zephyr at Martinez

Two weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to film the new Amtrak Phase VII P42 (AMTK82) in it’s couple day old paint job; lead the California Zephyr in and out of Emeryville (VIDEO LINK BELOW)
Today we have more of a treat, and a look at the new normal. AMTK138 is the next GE P42 Genesis locomotive to be repainted into the new Phase VII (paint work is just under a week old from when this video was filmed) AMTK 138 and AMTK82 lead Amtrak 6, The California Zephyr into Martinez station for a stop to later continue its long journey east to Chicago.
Also featured in this video is AMTK710, Bakersfield bound Amtrak San Joaquins train making a station stop with its new Siemens Venture cars. F40 NPCU 90278 (AMTK90278) leads the train out east with some extra honks from its cool sounding K5LA from a cool and friendly engineer.

Amtrak is being quick on repainting the P42’s into phase VII, gives them a fresh look since the ones still in phase V are looking pretty tired and showing their age.
Long live the P42DCs!
I honestly can’t wait to see an entire Zephyr set in this. The Superliners are set to start being repainted later this year!!

It used to have a much better Narrow Font K5LA. All of the units with the best horns are getting them replaced with Raised Letters.
