Amtrak And Via Rail Vacation NYC To LA

We had an amazing North America vacation on Amtrak and Via Rail. We started in NYC and finished in LA. We took the Amtrak Maple Leaf to Toronto then Via Rail The Canadian to Vancouver and from there we did the Amtrak Cascades to Seattle then we drove from Seattle to LA because the Amtrak Coast Starlight was cancelled due to flooding.

Wow. We came to Toronto from NYC in August for West Indian Caribana. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Canadian Vibe!!! It's So Clean & the natives are lovely. My son & daughter fell in love & ready to move😂 We're thinking about taking this trip to LA, just to tour the country side relaxed. We've never had any interest of visiting the west coast, but watching this changed our minds. Surprised the trains were so empty, especially during the holidays.💘🗽🏙Brooklyn Love from our Familelele🇺🇸🇯🇲🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇹🇹🇮🇳🇵🇦🇨🇦🇬🇧💙❤🖤💛💚❤

As a Canadian I would like to impress upon you just how lucky you are to have seen the peak of Mount Robson. It is on average visible only 12 days per year. I have been thru Mount Robson park a handful of times and still have not seen the summit. Cheers.

I took almost this exact same trip with my family 60 years ago when I was 12 .Long before antrak. White tablecloths real silverware. Our family of 5 went coach on the entire trip but we still ate in the dining cars. No microwave food. It is one of my favorite memories from when I was young. How much was the trip on the Canadien? I'm thinking of a bucket list trip to retrace that trip in 1964. I really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming please.

Good morning Allie and Rob. My husband and I took the Empire Builder #27 from Havre to Seattle via Portland. We were lucky enough to be assigned an accessible room going to Portland. Returning to Havre from Seattle we took the #8 train. We were in a roomette for this leg of our journey. Our choice of rooms is the bedroom for more room. When we arrived back in Havre, we had a dead battery and we were locked out of the car as it is an electrical access. The Amtrak agent was quite helpful and her boyfriend was able to assist us with entry at $0.00. Now that is service. Awesome Amtrak!

In 1992 I did the opposite. I went from Vancouver-Toronto via Amtrak. Down to Seattle, Empire Builder,Lakeshore LTD to Albany, Maple Leaf to Toronto. I also did the reverse but via Denver (they had the "Pioneer" back then that went to Portland & Seattle). In fact in Portland there was also tha Coast Starlight northbound which we followed & the Portland branch of Empire Builder ready to leave. I have been on "The Canadian" 51x since 1964. Yes I'm a "train-a-holic".

Your train trip in the winter looks a whole lot different than it does in the summer. That is a beautiful trip to take across Canada. I watched the Jeb Brooks Channel as they went across Canada on rail. They were in first class it's nice to see the difference between business class and first class. But in the summer it was beautiful green and of course the days.

My sister and I took our 88 year old dad on the Toronto Vancouver route twice in a few years. I wish I could do it again. It is a much more elegant experience than Amtrak sleepers. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. So now I can only afford Amtrak because of my points. But I do enjoy train travel and there are some very wonderful staff members on Amtrak. I will continue to explore USA via train as long as I can. I enjoy your videos.

The attendant who turned the seats around went out of his way to make your trip better. He deserves a good tip at the end of the ride. I don't usually tip Business class attendants, but this attendant made your trip a lot better. The vast majority of Amtrak attendants put a lot of effort into great service.

Welcome to Canada!!!❤😂🍁🐸😃 I could have walked through the bus station to the train station!!!!!******,

We took the train from Seattle to Portand around 2010 and it had a car that they turned into a movie theater. They played a kids' movie, and since my family were the only ones in there, they got to run around a bit, talk, and get their wiggles out while watching the movie. Our car attendant also came to our room and played games with, and did magic tricks for my kids. The scheduling of the train was a nightmare (cancellations for us too), but the service was excellent. Nice people working for them.

Wow! This is almost the exact same itinerary that my wife and I will be doing this coming June. We are taking business class on the Maple Leaf and then spend a day in Toronto. One difference is that we will be in a Prestige Room on the Canadian all the way to Vancouver. But when we get to Vancouver, we take a seven night cruise to Alaska (round trip). We are then taking the Amtrak throughway bus down to Seattle and jumping on the Coast Starlight in a bedroom down to Southern California. Hope our Coast Starlight won't have any issues like yours did. After seeing your video, it's just making us look forward to it even more, thanks!

Prestige Class is definitely a great way to travel on The Canadian, you get priority boarding and depending on the time of year, for a big chunk of the day, the park car is only for Prestige Passengers, Sleeping Class do have access but limited, also Economy has no access to the last half of the train beyond the dining car.

Thank you guys for posting this video as it reminded me of my trip in Canada back in Winter 2018/2019. I took the Amtrak from Penn station NYC to Montreal, travelled to a few cities of eastern Canada via rail before hopping on the VIA from Toronto to Vancouver. I stayed in a sleeper cabin for 1, and I found it very comfortable. At Winnipeg station, we were notified that a freight train has derailed, so we had to pack up, travelled 5 hours to Melville station to swap over with the passengers on the eastbound train which would turn back to Vancouver. We were delayed for a few hours but the crew was very professional and reassured us all the way. It was an amazing experience overall and I highly recommend it. The service and food were excellent and the staff were very friendly! The only thing I didn't realise was the VIA Canadian, being built over 50 years ago, didn't have WiFi, and I had no roaming as well. Nonetheless, it was a great way to detox from mobile phones and social media! The Amtrak from NYC to Montreal I took also surprised me as to how spacious the seats were. I didn't have to get off for border checks, the officers came onto the train to check us off. It was an 11 hour ride but was very scenic! Being from Australia, I was fascinated with the snow!

Some of the dome cars are from the 1950's or 1960's.

First time viewing your content. It's very nice to see a cute couple taking time to see the beauty of USA and Canada. I have just subscribed and liked and will be watching for more. The cross country trip was especially exciting.

We explored some of Toronto back in the early 2000’s. CN tower was so scary to me. But we enjoyed some drinks and snacks in the rotating restaurant at the top! Hubby is from Hamilton, Ont.

Happy New Year to everyone. I hate to admit this, but I love traveling on Amtrak so much, I wish they had a family room large enough to be an actual apartment I could travel on for 15 days.
