AMT 94 Ford Lightning kit review

I actually own a first gen Lightning and go over what is right and wrong with the kit plus discuss how it is to build. Mine was an early release with the wrong tailgate which was remedied. Current releases should have the correct part.

I just finished this kit a couple months ago. I noticed all the issues you noted too. You overcame the shortcomings very well though.

its cool to compare the models to the actual vehicles and see what is different and what not, I got the 78 Ford by AMT and its a bit different from the actual 78 (granted mines not perfect though) and you have a reference to use instead of google images and guessing how stuff looks.

I own one too, but it has a fastback chip and a supercharger.

I painted my AMT Lightning black. The decals show up on the paint as little white lightening bolts, lettering is not visible unless you shine a flashlight on them. Was overall impressed with the model, but the body decals were disappointing.

Great build!! Looks great. Do you know what the wheelbase of this model is? I'm trying to see if I could install the body on a small R/C car. Would you be able to measure it for me please? Thanksss

About how long did it take you to put this together?

I don't recall. Most of the time is spent painting. The more detail you paint, the longer it takes. I also break assembly up over several evenings.

@@mongrelmotorsports Thanks for the response. I build real cars and have a 95 Lightning so my wife thought itd be a great idea to get this for me and our 4 year old as a project. I opened it up and immediately figured dozens of hours to do it right. Definitely not a couple hour snap together type thing. Very nice kit and I do like it, just not something to build with a smaller child

@@buildingcarsissohard1813 Though it goes together nicely it is probably not the best for a beginner. And not suitable for a child under probably 8-10 for this one.

I have a real Ford Lightning just like that except it's black. It's a 1994 year model.
