Always good to hear an "acoustic" version of a song which can stand on its own. Great song.

Though I prefer the earlier music up to Tales....this is probably my favorite Amorphis song. The lyrics, the music and atmosphere are phenominal. They are still one of the best bands around.

Good point. I didn't think about that. It is very easy to mix words when talking about "groups" of people. It is just easier to say that we are all from the same planet Earth. In the history, (the last 2,500 years of reliable written documents), of mankind, people have been too focused on everyone's differences. Now I feel people are slowly starting to focus on everyone's similarities. Cultures are definitely melting together because of the internet and other technologies, like cheaper travel.

If I had Scandinavian heritage, I'd be proud as hell too! Nationalism is not negative. It can be very positive when it used to motivate people towards a common good or improvements in domestic affairs. Just don't be confused between Nationalism and Racism. They are two seperate ideas. Belonging to a country or a history and being proud of that doesn't mean that you think less of other peoples.

The beginning of a lot changes to come for Amorphis. I love their old stuff (Karelian isthmus, Tales, etc.)as well as the newer. If you like this, check out my play lists of Doom/Goth/Avant garde Metal.

Excellent point. All we really need to be careful of is the "wrong" kind of nationalism, which turns hostile towards otherness. Be proud of your heritage, culture, habits etc. as much as you want, but dont dismiss that of other's. Though in the end, I don't really get the kind of nationalism that tramples and mocks the culture of others. Its not like a culture can really be "attacked" or "hurt" by anything, so why the fear? Like you said, just need to get rid of the fighting spirit.

Why play a sitar at the end and not a Kantele? Well, i must admit the sitar fits really well in the music, but it would be logic to play a kantele.

the bigger globalisation gets, the bigger will nationalism get - it's natural process. nationalism is on the rise all over the world. and it's good for globalised world, where regional differences are good for tourism now if we could just get rid of fighting spirit and let everyone go with the flow..
