Amish Country Travel Vlog. Road Trip to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Outlet Shopping for Kitchen Gadgets! We went on a shopping adventure to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Our mission on this trip was to look at the scenery, to check out the food scene, as well as to do some shopping for kitchen gadgets at the local outlet stores. Lancaster County is famous for the Amish and Mennonite communities. The food is fantastic! There are TONS of buffets, restaurants, farmers markets, and bakeries. If you visit this part of the country, make sure that you try the Shoo-Fly Pie and the Whoopie Pies. Also, the fresh baked bread, pretzels, and farm fresh fruits and vegetables are a must!!

I grew up in York which is next door. My best friend was from Lancaster. When my father retired before my mother, he got a job as a tour guide for the Amish country. I have been to Gettysburg.

Thank you. Yeah, you were at ground zero for Amish country. It's really a nice area to visit.
I am from Brazil and got to attend a training at Harrisburg and a dear friend of mine and host took me to Lancaster and spent the day there, OH MY WORD, THE BEST TiME OF MY LIFE! Awesome food and the beautiful country side and the buggies...I just loved it!
Such a fun area to explore, eat and shop. Happy Birthday!

Thank you Meletia. Amy shot this all on her phone, with lots of it thru dirty windows. I feel bad about that, but glad the bugs didn't interfere too much.
Thanks for enlightening me on the Susquehanna River. We drive across the river in Havre De Grace MD. Never could figure out why there were no boats on such a wide river.

Thanks for watching. Yeah, we cross it using hwy 30, not far from Harrisburg. You're crossing near the mouth, so it must really be wide there. I didn't wanna sound like Wikipedia...but, it's funny for such a large river to be like that.

A mile wide, 15 to 20 feet deep and shallower.
I recognize the farm lands in Ronks, Pa. That's where my family and I stay when we take my grandson to "A Day Out with Thomas" event in Strasburg railroad. Next time you travel there, checkout Cherry Crest Farm. It is our favorite farm in Ronks. We always go during the late Summer because the farm stays opened until 10 PM when everything else is closed. It's our annual family destination and will continue to be so for years to come.

Thank you. Yes, Ronks has some nice farmland. Driving through Intercourse and Blue Ball is really interesting. The small towns are nice to visit.
I am definitely going to explore this area. It looks quite interesting to visit Lancaster. Nice Video!!:)
Fun! Thanks for the journey! I used to live in Jersey and have visited the Pennsylvania Amish country when in school and some day trips with family as kids.

Thanks Diane. Yeah, it's a fun place to visit. That's good that you weren't too far away and could visit. We're originally from the west coast, so this is a treat of being on the east coast.
Haven't been in that area since 1990. I agree it is an awesome area for shopping! Hope you both had a great time!

Yeah there is no chance that I will pronounce it correctly. I am a California girl who moved to the south...so my speech is southern style valley girl! LOL!

We had no idea how to pronounce it based on the spelling. But we watched one guy doing a buggy video, and he pronounced it the way you did. That was shocking to us. Amy had a great time, which was the purpose. To go on a nice road trip, see some fireworks, eat some food, do some shopping. Nice way to kill a weekend. Glad you enjoyed the video. thanks for watching.

Some differences between the Amish and Mennonite are use of electricity, cars vs buggies. We use to ask when we were kids and family moved to the area. Mennonite seemed more conventional in living practices electricity, refrigerators some tv.

Thanks Racheal. I agree. I sometimes feel bad when I refer to Amish that are really Mennonites. I guess some are 'liberal' and allowed to use technology where the Amish don't use the modern conveniences. We like Annapolis. It has an Amish market and restaurant where different families run different parts of the market and the restaurant. Really good food, really good baked goods. We saw one person using a weed eater (didn't get the camera out in time), so I'm guessing must have been a Mennonite.

The next you go to Lancaster don’t stay in Lancaster too commercialized. Stay outside of it. We stayed at a Mennonite bed and breakfast. We could have stayed in the main farmhouse instead we stayed in one of their cottages. We were invited to the main house for a farm to table breakfast. Very simple yet delicious meal. The Mennonite family who ran the b&b told us about some off the beaten path Amish farms to stop at (some were part of their extended family). I bought a beautiful vase of flowers grown on the farm, preserved foods in mason jars, fruit, and a beautiful hand painted large gourde birdhouse. We were the only “ English” there the rest of the customers were Amish. The Central Market in Lancaster is also a great place to stop at. There are Mennonite, Amish, organic farmers, and other talented people selling their products. The next time we are in the area we will stay again at the Mennonite b&b.
LANCaster.

I want to build a gypsy wagon and drag it around America by horse but I'm scared my horse will get dehydrated and there won't be any water around
I miss the Amish so much, since I moved from the Tri-State area 25 years ago to languish in this cultureless hell called Florida.
Crazy how they are forced to put a triangle symbol on their buggies. They do anything to break these families
@AmyLearnsToCook
4 жыл бұрын
I understand their beliefs but as a driver...I can tell you that at night, you cannot see them. You absolutely cannot see them and there would be a lot of car/buggy accidents without the reflectors. If there is a suggestion for alternatives, then it should be discussed. But as long as they share the regular road with cars, there needs to be some way to see them at night.
