Amines - Basicity (A-level Chemistry)

Outlining how amines are able to act as bases and the factors that affect the basicity (how basic) of an amine. The differences in basicity between aliphatic and aromatic amines are shown and explained in terms of availability of the lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atom in an amine.
For AQA, OCR (A), Edexcel and CIE.
Recap: 00:31
Why amines can act as bases: 02:10
Example - ethylamine + hydrochloric acid: 03:09
Why are some amines stronger bases than others?: 04:03
Summary: 08:31
Examples in the video:
Ethylamine + hydrochloric acid: 03:09
Basicity of phenylamine and ethylamine: 04:29
Reduction of phenylamine: 09:02

@@101nevergiveup they are not, they have less alkyl groups so less electron donation to N, so lower electron density
