Amigurumi for Beginners | All the Basic Stitches | How to Ch, Sc, Inc, and Dec

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

If you are new to crocheting but want to start making crocheted animals, this video is for you! In this video, I show all the stitches you will need to know to make almost all of my amigurumi patterns.
Thankfully, there are just a few stitches to know - first, I show the slip knot which is simply how to attach your yarn to your hook, then how to make a chain stitch (abbreviated: "ch"), a single crochet (abbreviated "sc"), an increase stitch (abbreviated "inc" or "2sc in next st"), and a decrease stitch (abbreviated "dec" or "sc dec st").

Does it matter which way you loop the yarn around the hook? TIA

Crocheters use both the yarn over (stitches look like little "v") or yarn under (stitches look like little "x"s) methods. The more traditional single crochet uses the yarn over method, but for amigurumi, I use the yarn under method. I like how it looks and it creates a tighter stitch than the yarn over. I hope that's helpful! Let me know if you have other questions!

Good question! Maybe I should have gone over that in this video as well, but I explain it in my "How to Read an Amigurumi Pattern" video at minute 3:28. Here's the direct link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fnWartKimb2aidI.html

I have always put the hook in just one of the loops on the stitch that is next. Does that make any difference?🤔

Yes, if you insert the hook into only 1 loop, you will be left with visible loops left over on each stitch which will create lines/ridges in each round of your work.
