Turrican 2 was better! The sound and the game. Part 3 was ok, but it wasn't Turrican 2. Part 3 was only a forced copy.

The first game's soundtrack had some even better tunes, but unfortunately seems to have used lower quality instrumentation (maybe to fit into less memory). I think that in Turrican 2 they actually gave the instruments the bit rate that the tunes deserved, which is why it has aged so much better. This was rectified somewhat in Huelsbeck's Turrican Anthology series which completely re-rendered all the tunes (with extra channels and background melodies too), meaning that the tunes from the first game can finally be listened to with modern ears. The next best way to hear the tunes from the first game is watching an actual playthrough of it (or playing it through yourself), since then you hear them alongside seeing the parts of the game that they were meant to go with.
This was the best music soundtrack for any game ever made. This guy was so talented it's unreal - to think what hardware was around back then and how he made this is beyond me. All the tracks were so good. He was literally a musical genius. They don't make games like this anymore.

Of the single-composer original soundtracks, this still is definitely the best one ever made. Paula, Amiga's sound chipset, was pretty advanced for its time but even it was not enough and required some software magic.

when I was a kid I recorded the soundtrack on a cassette tape while playing the game in invicible mode then kept playing the tape in our estate family car while laying down in the back hatch. Loved it so much!
Our childhood expressed in music. Thank you Chris Huelsbeck. Still love my Amiga.

TIMELESS piece of ART!
Best video game soundtrack ever. Never will get tired of listening to this.
Turrican 2 is and will always be the greatest game music sound track of all time, it so clever and ingenious the way he has created it and it brings back memories of a truly amazing time for gaming.
What blows my mind is the fact that he was working with limitations. And a lot of these songs are rather simple, but they sound soooooo good. I think I watched a video on here that said "limitations breed creativity". And this is a shining example of that.
@LegoGBlok

"limitations breed creativity, most people shock about the pyramids and can't believe how they were built with the tools of that time... well.. we today can't think the same way what people of the past, we don't have to and that's a huge problem, we are losing creativity (among others) sure, even today, there are the few, whom posses the ability, abilities, to think outside the norm, the proverbial box
this game was incredible, and the music amazing, listening to every single beat and note, learning on my on launchpad, finding the notes, chris hulsbeck you are a musical genius
The only Amiga game I ever played with my dad, Turrican II was on a random blue floppy and it stayed our favorite, along with the soundtrack!

Listened this top ost and completed the game (on PC) and it has been an absolute honor. Finished a lots of games on consoles after but not comparable.

You could get them on the PS Store. They remade them 1-3 recently if i am not mistaken. At least 1 + 2. I have them. And… i think 3. (But it could also be Super Turrican 1+2. Not sure about that. Sorry)
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I think the track at 17:26 Wet Dungeon (World 2-1) is actually named "Exploring Secret Dungeons" or "Secret Dungeons" ?
I think that a large part of our appreciation when we value a video game soundtrack is conditioned by our experiences and emotions that these great games gave us and not by a true analysis of the musical composition. I think that saying that it is the best soundtrack of all time is not correct, since there were many soundtracks with incredible compositions and that, like Turrican 2, innovated despite their hardware limitations, such as Equinox, Axelay, Terranigma, Time trax, Castlevania 4, Demons crest, Donkey Kong 2 etc.
@sockpuppet4716
8 ай бұрын
You are correct. But people are really commenting with their emotions here. There's always a silent "for me" - e.g. "this is the best soundtrack ever [for me]". And you know, those emotions are valid, even if they are a product of historical accident as much as they are of Hülsbeck's well acknowledged talent and achievement. There's also some people in the comments who weren't even born until long after this game came out, but still dig the music! Kudos to you though for suggesting some other great soundtracks to check out, there are a lot of really great ones which weren't lucky enough to be attached to a game as well known as this one.

@@sockpuppet4716 The turrican soundtrack is a gem, I never played the game but I really value its musical composition and the expressiveness it transmits, it is definitely one of the great soundtracks. It’s a shame most people overlook old European games in the favour of Japanese or American stuff. Even though many don’t hold up gameplay-wise (although Turrican mostly does), they’re missing some of the best VGM ever
