I'm commenting right now on April 30, 2024 and I couldn't let this incredible date pass by. This sensational album was released exactly 40 years ago, and today the Valburga Night celebration takes place. What I have to say is that this album is a classic, every guitar riff, the drum beats, the wild bass lines and the vocals are all amazing. When I listen to this album, I have the impression of mentally being in the atmosphere of a medieval village, where ancient rites and witches' sabbaths take place. A true period journey through history. The lyrics of the songs also captivate me, the darkness, the macabre and the funereal. The cover of this album is very peculiar and always catches my attention, not to mention the band's look is dark, just the way I like it. A very highly recommended album for those who appreciate this very raw style of heavy metal. Masterpiece of German metal! ☠🔥🧹

Bin jetzt 56 Jahre alt. Höre seit 45 Jahren Metal. Herrlich wenn man Alben findet die man seit Jahrzehnten nicht mehr gehört hat. Ich fühle mich in meine jungen Jahre zurückversetzt. Dazu noch neue Scheiben von Judas, Accept und Saxon. Angefangen hab ich mit Purple, Scorpions, Sabbath. Tolle Sache das es auch Axel Rudi Pell gibt.

Harald Spengler war damals das Zünglen an der Waage, der Kopf, ein Leader und vor allem ein begnadeter Musiker. Mit jeder Platte ging es nach oben und die Begeisterung schwabte vom Süden Deutschlands über bis hoch in den Norden sowie in den Ostblock. Dann kam "Eye of the Storm" auf den Markt und ich war geschockt. Diese Platte war der Anfang vom Ende von Stormwitch und die Band verschwand in der Versenkung.

Sure one of the best bands of heavy metal of all time. Not on mainstream, but they are high priests of hell. Stronger Than Heaven, for me, is the best album. But this debut is killer too

Yes - we have 2023 and i am listening to this album for the very first time. Remember the coverartwork when i was still young back in around 1984. Metal Hammer Magazine had hit the market and i was a strong follower from the very beginning. This album was featured in some of the early issues. Those were the days my pocket money was low and so many stunning albums around that you have to make a decision. This album here was not the decision of my metal friends or me. Although i would have really liked to listen to it. So the decades went by. Hmmm...if i beam myself back into those times - what would i have thought of listening to this? All in all i think it would have been "an okay album" to which we would have listened from time to time. Although it was 1984 it already had an very early 80ies touch. You can hear Iron Maiden everywere. In this year there was already so much cooler stuff around. Compare this here with the first Running Wild album. Worlds collide! But - it is okay all in all and with the nostalgic mood nowadays i .....really like it! Greetings from germany.

My review on Allmusic written July 13, 2018. 4.5 Stars The debut album from Germany's Stormwitch, Walpurgis Night was originally released in 1984 on Germany's great Scratch records. Walpurgis Night is the heaviest and best album from an important band to emerge from the 80's German Metal movement. Highlights are the lead track "Cave Of Steenfoll", the groove riffed "Priest Of Evil", "Werewolves On The Hunt" and the title cut. An underrated classic.

The debut from German Heavy Metal band. Really good album, other than placing Flour in the Wind, and Warlord back to back because the songs are really similar it's flawless. My favorite tracks are Priest of Evil and Flour in the Wind ( an Italian faerie tale ) . Their future albums went in a more epic direction, this is pretty straight forward Judas Priest - Iron Maiden style Traditional Metal. I have owned their first 3 albums for many years. I got rid of the rest of their catalog because they went commercial for Beauty and the Beast, and Eye of the Storm . Shogun was a combination of 1990s Grunge and 1970s Supertramp , War of the Wizards onwards just didn't measure up to the Walpurgis Night, Tales of Terror, and Stronger Than Heaven albums. My favorite song is When the Bat Bites
