I used to love this on Amiga but getting a copy was hard - always full of viruses (I was a kid, no money to buy the thing!). Still playing this on the Megadrive to this day, a very under-rated game.

such a sick game! pretty much what got me into strategy games like C&C etc.

Cannon Fodder, Sensible Soccer and this gem Mega lo Mania! Sensible Software and the British Gaming Industry in general thank you so much! I love the music from Richard Joseph, the gameplay theme seems to be inspired by Gustav Holst - The Planets - Mars, the Bringer of War.

O.M.G! I'd forgotten this game even existed!!!!I remember playing it as a kid, almost 2 decades ago! Thanks so much for uploading this! :-D

Aww man this is the godfather of all strategy games, very addictive, good GFX, great sound (loved the speech comments) but this game was challenging & has good elements to make this one of they best games on the Amiga, I still play it today!

Na da wollen wir die Sache mit der Strategie mal nicht überbewerten. Die einzigen 2 Herausforderungen die es gab waren doch im Grunde nur, einmal herauszufinden auf welchem Stück Land man bis zur höchsten Entwicklungsstufe kommt und das so schnell wie nötig. Um anschließend soviele Einheiten zu bauen wie man kann und anzugreifen. Spaß gemacht hat es trotzdem😃.

I've been playing the Megadrive version today, its great! You'd think the lack of a mouse may hinder it but the way the buttons are mapped are "ergonomically terrific!" (oh dear..). It was well worth grabbing though - no messing about with loading or crashing of dodgey copies and its pretty much a spot on conversion.

Is there any way to enable both sfx and music? As soon as I enable sfx, it sets the music to off and vice versa.

the one of best my game on amiga :D the music and words in games is Epic.

I have played Mega lo Mania on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive & Super Nintendo. Event though I have played this only a couple of times, I find this game to be pretty fun. To me this is one of those games, where I will spend with it way more than a hour if I get into it. Also if anyone asks, I've always pick the red lady Scarlet for obvious reason. :D

My friend and I would play this on the Sega Genesis. Addictive to say the least.

45:50 Oh yes, the series of famous battles of Karma, 1915AD, when the mad Lord Madcap attacked his enemies with biplanes and - for some reason - medieval catapults and longbows. ;-)

"ergonomically terwiffic" I still use this to this very day because, well, as a sentence, it's ergonomically terwiffic.

Is there any way to get that game on windows10? I miss that :) and Genesia was awesome too!

Wish that Mega-lo-Mania could be converted to an app. Such an awesome game.

I just played some Mega lo Mania clone last week and I was missing the epicness of the Amiga version. Our family used to own Amiga 500 when it was hot ;P.

Used to play this on the Amiga, replayed recently on an emulator and the gameplay still feels genius and addictive. Is there some modern (indie?) game that uses a similar concept?

@SaittaMicus Enemy choices in position and such are fixed by who you choose. Also the final stage changes based on your starter. Scarlet doesn't have to fight anyone in Megalomania, Madcap has to fight all three.

The music of this game always freaked me out as a kid for some reason.

@somerandompolishdude no point criticizing the playstyle, and I think the tech research is meant to show what you can do with each level. I didn't do this longplay so I can't say for sure but considering a lot of the other longplays I've seen on this channel I'd say there's a good chance he was going to show off more of the game.

i used to play this game soooo much!! great game, i even bought the genesis version so i wouldnt have to use disks,,, it is rare, and cost me a bit,, i used to play the green player, cause i always play green on every game i play,,,,, TOWER CRITICAL,, ITS ALL OVER!!!!

Before you place your people to start the map, hold down left click and keep holding it. Hover where you want to place them and immediately rush the mouse to the down arrow to reduce the number. You have the placed number in game but you only used up the number you managed to reduce it to.

Why does everyone always pick either Scarlet or Madcap instead of the other two guys when they do longplays of this?!

Both were most agressive, you don't want such opponents. That way you can ignore defence for a while and focus on population growth and research, and then run your opponents overs with superior tech. I think that was the only difference between gods. Madcap was the obvious choice.

Is it harder to play Scarlet and easiest to play Madcap?

2nd best game of all time. We've advanced a tech level.

Has anyone here ever experienced during a session that the enemies eliminated each other? I was playing on a level in which nuclear weapons were available. At some point one of the four sides was already eliminated and I was working on my own arsenal to fight the remaining two. The suddenly both sides nuked each other, making me the winner by default.

I remember a little cheat for this. You put loads of people into an area ( could be the full 100)click to play then quickly reduce the amount of people again and it would still keep the higher amount on the island but take the reduced amount out of the people quota on the map. Made things so much easier on later levels.

Ok how the hell did you do Ocarina with only 20 people, firstly i'm always stuck against Scarlet instead of Oberon when playing it. Even with 30 people it seems impossible as she always advances up first whichever sector you choose to start on and quickly gets to 1945. Also your people seem to reproduce quicker than mine. I'm playing the Megadrive version on an emulator but the differerences shouldn't be that noticeable. -_-

I still remember playing this as a kid and grabbing an encyclopedia to figure out just what it was I was apparently mining, how little I knew! Maamite, Moron, Tedium....

I know nothing about this game, so this might be a dumb question: WTF happened on Zappa? Dude builds a mine then sits there doing nothing while everyone else suicides? Did he just get some incredibly lucky opponent-focused Mutually Assured destruction? Why didn't any of them nuke him?

Behold! We have researched the deadly ROCK and STICK! Now we can kill people with them! The Genesis port of this was actually very good and one of the best strategy titles to grace that system.

one of those games that is massively better in winuae and when you can make save states :) i still play this on emulator for fun.

I guess you could call these types of games RTS, really they are their precursors, and tended to be called 'God games'. The first, at the first well-known one, would have been Populous.

Stiffkittens Download and install ZSENS. Then find a SNES ROM for this (or any) game and load it up in ZSNES. Google will help you find these things, you should be up and running within minutes to be honest.

Stiffkittens From a legal standpoint that is definitely the case, software piracy is a crime. From a practical standpoint however, there are no legal consequences to downloading a game that is no longer available, for a system that is no longer manufactured. Ultimately it comes down to how you feel about the whole thing. I'm not advocating breaking the law, but the information is there and if you feel comfortable doing it then I don't think too many people are going to care.

True, the only disadvantage the Mega Drive version had was the inferior music, it wasn't terrible, just not as good as the Amiga version.
