Today is 100th anniversary of Easter Rising. I remember my great grandfather who was in the GPO at the time, along with the rest of those Irish patriots. They're all heroes, absolute heroes.

I've been in a few of Europe countries, but nothing compared to Ireland. It's landscapes, it's people, it's beers, it's nightlife.... Wish to go back! Greetings from Spain, where Irish people are very welcome.

Peadar Kearney was Brendan Behan's uncle, a lad from a typical poverty-stricken Dublin background who was an intellectual without opportunities. He fought hard for independence, a co-founder of the Irish Volunteers in 1913, yet died in poverty. He was exactly what drove the fight for independence. Don't insult him and all of the people of that time by asking to change the anthem, this was driven by the passion to be free and makes me blub every time.

Marc Aaron James Connolly, Joseph Plunkett and Patrick Pearse were some of the main leaders of 1916. But yeah Michael Collins did take part in 1916,serving as aide to Joseph Plunkett in the GPO during Easter Week but wasn't hugely involved & was put in jail afterwards. After this was when he led a ruthless campaign against everything British in Ireland, leader of the IRA and controlling all IRA volunteer units around the country. His own personal unit he called 'squad' became renowned all over the world eliminating all British government intelligence sources in the City of Dublin. The biggest hit being 14 in one day all in different locations around Dublin. It was only a matter time before the British government conceded.

As a teenager, I liked learning national anthems, and I came over this one and absolutely loved it, but I did not know much about the Irish language, and had difficulties with the pronunciation. I sang it over and over and over again trying to get it right, but it was so hard.. Then things happened. Now I'm living in Scotland, studying Celtic languages, and I visit Ireland as often as I can, and I have sung this song more times than I can count. The pronunciation seems so easy now. Funny how things turn out.

I see that you capitalized all the words, but capitalization doesn't work like that in Irish. You would never write "Bhfiann" or "Bpiléar". When the beginning of a word changes like that (eclipsis, it's called in technical terms), you only capitalize the original beginning letter, so in this case it'd be bhFiann and bPiléar.

Reading the comments one would think all protestants were loyalists, which is not the case. There was a protestant movement to unify Ireland as a whole along with Catholics, which a lot of people are unaware of. I'm a first generation Canadian born to a protestant father from cork and a catholic mother from Armagh. I have/had relatives there were active in the IRA and relatives that were active in the orange order. I myself was raised catholic and I have visited both St Patrick's cathedral and St Patrick's church of Ireland. I have also visited during the 80's during the British military occupation of the north and the house in poleglass where we were staying was even raided. Even after waking up with a rifle pointed at me as a child, I was not deterred from wanting to go back. It would be nice to see Ireland unified and to be free to wander from estate to estate without being asked "Prod or Pope". There is enough room for both Catholics and Protestants to live in a unified Ireland, but if you want to be British and not Irish....... I suggest you move to England. Ní neart go cur le chéile
