If this was to be a fair test both should be equipped with identical tires and made to be equally weights, on tarmac, then that would eliminate the difference in traction apart from the driving system whether there front rear or all wheel drive,

The height of the rope hitch was the deciding factor here. The lower height on the Merc's tow point meant the Range Rover's rear end was being pulled down vs the Merc's being pulled up. Hence less traction for the merc and more for the RR, tyre differences aside.

@@fellekillen99 yes it does matter. Every bit of weight counts. Doesn't have to be 200kg. The guy being in the seat clearly gave the range rover more weight which pushed the tires more into the ground and gave the rr more grip. And that's all what it comes down to. Every bit of weight counts because even a little bit of more weight translates into much more grip. So its an advantage for the rr. Thats why there were both even until yannis freind jumped in making the test inaccurate.

I didn't the Rover has a far more advanced AWD system, with a far better terrain management system. It can handle situations with street tires that the G would need AT tires to handle. It can control each individual wheel and also apply different damping pressures on each wheel automatically. The computer will do everything to find traction.

First time in my life I am seeing a G63 losing like that 😱

People can say what they want about the Range Roonys, they're actually quite capable off road. I remember when the Evoque first came out, I did some digging around on it and was actually VERY impressed with its off-road capabilities.

As much as I saw G Wagon is by far the only car in the whole world which can give some competition to the Range Rover. Even Land Cruiser is nothing infront of Range Rover but G Wagon was pretty good.

Rose gold did make the difference at the end 😂 Lol mat G wagon destroyed

Mikey B. My mate used to do exactly the same: trouble was it was when we were overtaking and it looked a bit risky. I found it a little worrying at first, but as he did it quite a lot I soon got used to it. The most amusing part was the fact that we were both trained and paid to drive at high speed in traffic. I always wondered how he passed his advanced course.

@amelia the protogen the big cause of that is Land Rover claiming the ZF 8 speed has life time fluid when it doesn’t, so an overwhelming majority of them never get their fluid changed, you can ask for it to be changed at the dealer, but they don’t recommend it unfortunately, which causes issues.

Mercedes lost because he pinned the throttle, when your tires are spinning you have no traction. See the range rover how the tires maintain traction instead of spinning? This is how you gain traction when you start to get stuck in snow or mud , you dont just floor it. Slow and steady throttle will get you traction.

I had a Range Rover back in the 1980s and it went everywhere I pointed it. Over sand dunes, on the beach, on mountain tracks and cruised the highways at what is now way over the legal limit. To top it off it covered over 500,00 miles without anything more than regular service and every now and then new tyres. The only thing that stopped it was when the two left wheels dropped through a logging road bridge. Once winched out it continued on as if nothing had happened.

yes this is totally attributable to the landrover and not the fact that they pushed the G into wheelspin the entire time while actually trying with the landrover :)
