Silas great to have you back! I have to Switzerland countless times and have tried many chocolates over my life. The best by far is Laderach. However, you should have bought the fresh chocolate that they break huge tabs in front of you and you just tell them how many grams you want. Then they put it in a transparent plastic bag. It is like 13CHF+ per 100 grams but it is undoubtly the best chocolate because it is fresh, made generally during the morning or the day before. They have many types but highly recommend the "Nuss mix" which is the nut mix and they also have dark and normal chocolate.

You need to get Lindt, Cailler, Frey, Villars, Camille Bloch for sure. That's like the Swiss staple chocolate in every household. Can't go wrong with those 🙂Some of my personal favorites are: Lindt Excellence Intense Pear, Lindt Excellence Dark Sea Salt or the Frey Tourist (White chocolate).

If you ask a Swiss what the best chocolate is and he answers you "Kinder", you know that you either don't have a Swiss in front of you or that he has no idea about chocolate ("Kinder" is a German brand and everything else than a good chocolate/quality). Definitely, Alexa is not Swiss (I can't translate Läderrach for you either, it's just a typical Swiss surname) 😂. Like many or even everything, it is always a matter of taste what you find better or less good. Personally, with a few exceptions, I tend towards dark chocolate, but not with too much cocoa, otherwise it becomes too bitter for me (dark chocolate that is sweet would have to have a high sugar content, otherwise it would hardly be possible). My favorites are u.a. Ragusa Classique or Ragusa Noir, Branches crémant (dark chocolate), ... I can definitely understand your favorite, dark and with nuts (how the heck do the Swiss come up with making the best chocolate on the one hand and then putting nuts in it, considering that cocoa is not grown in Switzerland as far as I can remember, the nuts are not from our country either). You have to put the Ovaltine into perspective, it contains malt, which is actually not that bad from a nutritional point of view, so it was originally not necessarily intended as "pleasure chocolate", but rather as food for activities, etc.

The “läderach” or other dark chocolates are not everyday chocolates like milk chocolates, for example. Dark chocolate with a high cocoa content and little sugar is not what most people expect from chocolate in terms of taste. It always depends on what you drink or eat with it, that can change and/or support the taste a lot. I love very dark 90% cacao chocolate with a glass of red wine. Läderach is the name of the family that founded this chocolate factory.

While their chocolate is great, I would avoid Läderach like the plague. The family of the same name is well known for having christian-conservative views. They use a portion of the profits to support political campaigns, such as anti-abortion groups. And more recently, the public learned that in a Christian school co-founded by the family, violence was being used as punishment against the pupils, allegedly with their knowledge. Buying their products indirectly supports this toxic brand of christianity. Btw: Of the more widely available brands, Cailler is certainly one of the better ones.
