Irn Bru is basically Barley Sugar. Don't tell the Scots I told you... PS if you can find it, try Caramac (a white caramel chocolate), Abernathy (a biscuit you probably can't get gluten free) and any sort of steamed pudding (which should be served hot even if you can't manage to get it with hot custard or ice cream), steamed puddings are a staple of UK cuisine, stodgy, filling and hot)

Good selection, some classics here. Nothing contentious though... You should try the drink dandelion and burdock (like a British root beer), it's pretty unique, and you'll either love it or hate it, but almost definitely hate it. Also Skips, the crisp snack, they're real good and I don't think they have anything similar in the States. Edit: Also those Twirl Bites were definitely off, they taste like regular Cadbury chocolate. The bag may have had a tiny hole and they went stale.

Mars, commonly known as Mars Bar, is a variety of chocolate bar produced by Mars, Incorporated. It was first manufactured in 1932 in Slough, England by Forrest Mars, Sr. The bar was sold in two different formulations. In its original British version the bar consists of caramel and nougat coated with milk chocolate. An American version of the Mars Bar was produced which had nougat and toasted almonds covered in milk chocolate; later, caramel was added to the recipe as well. The American version was discontinued in 2002, and then revived the following year under the name "Snickers Almond".

It was a government crack down on making false health claims on product labels which triggered the name change. It contains 0.002% of ammonium ferric citrate, which means the actual iron content is close to zero. Only a homeopathic medicine believer would accept that as significant.

Fun facts: 1. The twirl bites are a spin off of twirl bars. 2. When Cadbury was sold to an American company recently the recipe was changed to make it cheaper worsening the chocolate. 3. Twirl was the only chocolate product to keep the old recipe because the new one couldn’t fold like that. 4. The waxy texture you commented on was how all Cadbury chocolate was and was something that was lost in the new recipe. 5. The Cadbury dairy milk was voted Britain’s favourite chocolate. 6. Cadbury used to put sawdust in the chocolate to make them more crispy. Hope you enjoyed my facts x

Irn Bru was originally called Iron Brew, but a few years back the Trading Standards authority told them to change the name because it contains no iron and is not brewed. The company came up with the ingenious name Irn Bru, which sounds the same but complies with regulations. Mars bar is 100% British, having been first manufactured in Slough, England by Forrest Mars Sr. an American immigrant. He eventually took over his father's business in America when he died in 1964. Now try saying Slough.

Hiya. Best British chocolate, for me? My vote goes to - Hotel Chocolat. Stay safe. All the best to you.

I'm lucky, the factory is just down the road from us and the outlet can be much cheaper. Our German friends always stock up at Hotel Chocolat to take back as presents.

As Peter Kay observed, Hob-Nobs are the Royal Marine of biscuits. You can dunk those things time and again, and they just won't die.

My reaction to my first Hobnob was exactly the same as Eric's. "One nibble and you are nobbled."

You need to go to an Old Fashioned British Sweetshop, for gum drops, bon bons, midget gems, rhubarb custards, pear drops... the list is ENDLESS
