Bus wankers was used a lot here in Britain after this episode. I was walking to my local shop one time last year and I wore my husbands camouflaged jacket. Bunch of teens drove by and shouted at me “ army wanker “. Actually made me laugh.

I don't blame Simon for getting really mad, because a similar thing happened to me at that age. I was walking home with a girl, and she shouted "run Forrest, run" at a jogger. He turned around and came towards us and threatened me. It happened just like the scene, I warned her not to do it, she did it anyway, and just like Jay, while I was being threatened because he thought I did it, she looked terrified, and afterwards didn't seem to care I got threatened. Trust me, it makes you fucking furious.

I remember a mate of mine was absolutely drunk off their face. We were only 17/18 and had been to a party and walking home. He had gotten into a fight with someone at the party. Then all the way home he was shouting aggressively all the way, about how he wants to do this person in and shouting things like “come on then”. With me telling him to shut up and quiet down. He ended up falling over which made him scream all the more and shouting at me to help him up. Until some head case came out of his house and started threatening us. Of course then he shuts up and stands there swaying. So this bloke focuses his threats onto me. Because I’m the only one talking and apologising. This mental case walks off and suddenly my mates brave again. Saying he was about to do that bloke in. Looking back my mate clearly had issues.

My first experience of clubbing in London back in the day. . . . . . 30+mins queueing to get in, £20 entry, once inside I led the way towards the bar, failed to see a 12inch high miniature stone wall, tripped over it and went head first into the club's ornamental goldfish pond, helped out of the pond by my mates whilst pissing themselves laughing, all of us immediately escorted from the club by the bouncers who'd seen me fall in and thought we were all drunk (which to be fair we were).

You saying that you can’t escape getting your car clamped reminded me of something hilarious my mate did. So me and my mate went went for dinner in London with our partners. We parked our cars at the side of the road. His back wheels were on double yellow lines. We didn’t think anything of it because he was only about 2ft Over the lines. We came out of the restaurant about 2 hours later to find that his car had been clamped. We both work in a garage so we have tones of tools in the boots (trunks for you Americans) of our cars. This guy was the stingiest mother fucker in the world so he pulled out a breaker bar and put it behind the clamp and took the wheel off… it took ages but in the end he drove home on his spare wheel and used an angle grinder to cut the clamp off his wheel the next morning

Clamps (or boots) were a huge thing in the 00s UK, but because they were used so often there's lots of rules using them now. In France citizens would just fill the locks on them with superglue destroying them, so the owners would have to keep paying to replace them, so they aren't a thing in France at all

Spearmint Rhino IS a chain of lap dancing clubs. We have about 10 or so of them over here, the largest "Gentlemans Club" in the world (for a while) was actually in my city and i worked there for 2 years, it was known as spearmint rhino Extreme! Where most clubs over here can get 200-300 ish people in (by law) we could get 1000 in our club due to its size. 3 floors, 4 bars and a shit load of "private rooms". But then they opened another one in Las Vegas which was slightly bigger, so it took the title as worlds largest gentlemans club. Correct we DO call sneaker trainers. because we use them to train for sports.

It’s slightly less react-able but Fresh Meat is also a very good comedy that portrays the UK in your youth very well. Joe Thomas who plays Simon in this is in Fresh Meat as well and it’s very good, a fantastic cast form top to bottom Most people around my age who were in sixth form / latter years of school when inbetweeners aired who then went to university around the time that Fresh Meat aired probably consider both shows almost cult classics, I know I do

It's never said explicitly where it's set however many filming locations such as their houses and a live music venue they go to in a later episode was in Watford which is just outside of London to the North West and their school is in Ruislip which in a nearby outer London borough. The only clue that it must be set kinda near that area was that angry little kid that had it in for Simon in a recent episode was from Northwood which is between Watford and Ruislip.

Never drive in London. Back in the late 1990’s we used to stay in London for a weekend every December in my late teens early 20’s. Perfect time to go pubs and clubs in Soho, London’s red light district. We always went on the train. But this one year there was a train strike. So my mate offered to drive. It took us 3 hours to drive to London, then another 2 hours to drive the 5-10 miles through London to get to a long stay carpark near our hotel. Then it cost us £140 to park the car for 3 days. That was back in the late 90’s, when I was at uni and only earning £40 a week. Plus the cost of the hotel, and all the spending money to eat out, and drinking. Great times though.
