One of my favourite lines in this episode is when Ted is looking at the car and he calmly says "no no, we can't give that away as a prize". I think it's hilarious. The greatest sitcom ever made.

If you do re-react, the end credits is my favourite moment of the episode. The lunacy of this episode is that if the diocese just paid for the roof repair, it would cost them a fraction of the cost of buying them a car....it's a very inefficient way of raising money!

By not watching the credits you've missed an absolutely cracking joke

Things you ought to know about driving and cars in Ireland - it's the Wild West, car-wise, out there. Up until fairly recently (and definitely in the time that Father Ted was made) - many drivers had never passed a driving test. You got a learner's licence from the post office, bought a car, and drove it. A lot of people never bothered passing a driving test and getting a full licence. In rural areas (ie, most of Ireland), nobody was ever checked-up on, and besides, the police were all people's brothers, cousins, nephews etc., so everything was very...relaxed. Plus, in rural areas (ie, most of Ireland), there was loads of drunk-driving - sure, if you were too pissed to walk home, you drove!! We moved to Ireland in 2003 and were astonished how normal it was for cars to have bumps and scrapes and dents...people tended to settle in cash for any bumps, outside of the insurance system, mainly because a lot of people wouldn't have been insured in the first place, for all the above reasons. This stuff all feeds into this episode with the car.

Agree on Alan Partridge. Still love the first season of "I'm Alan Partridge" set in the "Travel Tavern". Just my opinion, but that one was never bettered.

I was on a stag on Clare Island in Ireland. There was no cops on the Island and every car was a banger with no number plates tax or insurance. Pubs never shut either so everyone was pissed driving . It was pretty cool

For a craggy island, it's strange that it's possible to fall asleep at the wheel for several hours and not crash.

I am rewatching your Father Ted reactions. Yes a raffle is a form of gambling. In the UK, every time a Casino, the National Lottery or any gambling ad is on tv, underneath in the information it will say BE GAMBLE AWARE & WHEN THE FUN STOPS, STOP! (Most of these ads are aired in the evening time, when children should be in bed.)

I have a friend that is like that when waking up. He was a nightmare on holiday. Nobody wanted to wake him up.
