@pettengi18 Same way I feel about Australia. I left for 6 months a few years ago, when I got back to Sydney airport I just couldn't understand why people put up with Australia. Given the means why does anyone choose to live here? I spent the next few years preparing to permanently move out but now I'm stuck in East Germany down under. No one can leave this insane asylum anymore.

I moved to Colombia this year. So far it's been amazing. People from the USA come here for medical tourism because the prices are great and the doctors were trained in the USA or some other country that is top notch. Don't be a jerk and you will be treated very very well. Side Note: Monsanto is banned here and the food is so much better and healthier. Organic food is cheap, women are beautiful, and life is good. @Brad Morrison Spain isn't good... IT'S AMAZING!!! Honestly though man, my recommendation is that you try both out first for some monyhs. A friend advising me on this some years ago used the analogy of dating.. you want to try the person/country out first before you commit, otherwise you do not know what you are getting into. It actually depends on your own vibe and who you are where you vibe with the most.. with me it is Spain and Galicia. Australia has good job opportunities but you might find things too oppressive there as an American. If you can find a way to work remotely that opens up options too. I cannot really say enough good things about Spain: warm, moral, kind people... beatiful country, amazing food, amazing culture etc etc. The economy does suck but hou just havd to be creative. Honestly, travelling and "testing" two country optiond is wisest first. You will probably make contacts for future poyential job opportunities when you are there also

Speaking as someone who's lived overseas for years and has spent 2 of the last 4 years in KL, I recommend first booking an AirBnB flat for, say, 2-3 months as a trial run to get to know the country. I'd never move to another country before living there for several months with no strings attached. For example, about 5 years ago I decided to spend 9 months in Phuket..I stayed in the Kata/Karon Beach area. Phuket is a beautiful island and a world-class tourist destination. But for me, 9 months there was 5 months too long. Tourist areas tend to be an artificial environment....nobody is from there...tourists constantly come and go making it difficult to meet people. In Phuket, the locals all live on the east side of the island. But I think it serves as a example of how we can misjudge a place from afar, or from just visiting there for a week or two. It's really not enough to pick an entire country...you need to take time to drill down deeper into what specific localities suit you best. Do you want to live there, or just buy an investment property for renting to tourists? Not to worry, it's fun and you'll enjoy the process of discovery.

History is my avocation, and history shows that empires are born, empires reach their acme, and empires die. Sometimes death is gradual, sometimes it is in war, sometimes it is because of internal schisms. It's always been this way in history. I absolutely agree! In our politics today, there is so much talk about “saving American democracy” or “saving America” and as a student of history my response to that is there is no “saving” the inevitable. As you said empires rise and fall: Rome, Athens, the Ottomans, Soviets, Great Britain, and pretty soon America will join this list. History is history, you have to learn to accept it.

If you're currently in a G7 country, I think its normal to be apprehensive before considering a move to some of the more oft mentioned exotic destinations (Costa Rica, PH, Panama, Thailand, MX, Peru etc..) A lot of these countries are still not developed countries so there could be a disconnect between the standard of life you are used to and the one you are going to. Not to mention, gong to one of these places means learning a new language, different culture, possibly higher unemployment (>crime rate), houses aren't built as well, tropical climate all year long, possibly more bureaucracy and poorer customer service Not to be negative but making a move like this should be well researched and thought out

No accurate predictions based on facts from this guy anymore. He just wants his "few years left" to "be happy" --apparently happiness is barely interacting with anyone except his wife and just lying around listening to stuff all day. I don't understand how he can have such disregard for guiding his own children when he always has, or that he refuses to be informed and insists when pushed that he's an optimist. I am flat ass broke right now I have a jar full of pennies, some sliver and gold in the pawn shop that I use as my bank to get money to buy materials for my house I paid cash for to finish restoring and renovating the house. As soon as the house is done I'm going to turn my jar full of pennies into some serious cashola by investing and playing the lotteries and gambling. I stopped gambling when I bought my house. I can't wait anymore to get back at it. Truth be known I never should of stopped gambling. I have never invested in any stocks or other things that have to do with investing.
