Cover the children’s ears, the blue markings on the bums of the ewes (females) have been placed there by a chest harness warn by the Ram, the harness holds a coloured crayon that will tell the farmer which ewes the ram has “bumped” into while carrying out his duties. Sheep are marked a number of times throughout the year further up on their backs not only to identify individual farmers flocks but after lambing the ewes are marked using various colours with dots & numbers, indicating amongst other things how many lambs she’s had etc her number will also be painted on her lambs.

@nevillemason 6791 And it was the same in 1826. From the American Audubon's journals, Manchester, September 1826: "I walked some four miles out of the town; the country is not so verdant, nor the country seats so clean-looking, as Green Bank for instance. The funnels raised from the manufactories to carry off the smoke appear in hundreds in every direction, and as you walk the street, the whirring sound of machinery is constantly in your ears. The changes in the weather are remarkable; at daylight it rained hard, at noon it was fair, this afternoon it rained again, at sunset was warm, and now looks like a severe frost."

If you want the animals to come to you then you need to learn Welsh. They left when they found out you didn't have any food. Watching those sheep being rounded up by the dog was an experience to remember. Watching them in competition, rounding, and corralling them is a must. I stayed at a holiday let, in Somerset, and every morning the farm cattle opposite would come out and take over the road outside. The let is clearly shown to be opposite a cattle farm and people would complain in the reviews about them and of course the smell, that to be honest, was OK. Part of the country experience. Thank you for posting your trips.

Guys a really lovely trip you guys had! Loved the farm along with the scenery I do hope you visited the slate mine in the north of Wales which was the biggest open slate pit in the world during its time! The slate mined there was used all around the world for building materials including roof tiles etc. The mines even included their own minature railway to allow the slate mined to be transfered to the docks for shipping! The weather in Wales is rather wet and its well known for that along with the little sheep and that sheep dog was worth its weight in Gold! On a seperate note I am suprised some of the Lakenheath jets didn't pay you a visit as they use wales for training and Chris would probably know that! Thanks for sharing guys it was a great watch!

Try North Pembrokeshire, there is a curious divide in Walse, South Walians sometimes refer to North Walians as 'gogs', they speak a slightly different dialect of Welsh, and are considered unfriendly. Snowdon itself tends to disappoint, but there are many other peaks which are not tourist traps. Oddly, genetic studies of the North Welsh and South Welsh show a greater divergence than either of them do to the rest of Britain. A really old division.

Another great video, thanks for sharing. I hear from Arkansas homesteading youtubers that is a movement starting in the USA to buy products from local companies and farmers and not rely on Chinese imports or other foreign imports. Its a great thing. Soon summer will be here and you could go to some agricultural shows which can be interesting. The biggest one in Europe is the Royal Welsh Show which is a 4 day event in July and it takes place in Builth Wells (you cannot take your dogs - only assistance dogs are allowed).

It used to be big and slowly faded to convenience. However, you are correct. Over the last years, it has grown dramatically in popularity, buying, and supporting local. We will check out as may shows as we can. Thanks for the tip and comment. Cheers 🍻 Chris and Jess.

Hiya. Just an observation (because it's ME, right?), but did you not see, at 10:08 , the sign on the gate that you went through of a picture of a dog with a red line through it, meaning 'NO DOGS'? And I'm pleased Chris took your dog away before you went into the field containing the sheep and goats. I would be on a sheep/dairy farm in Wales, pulling my weight, twice a year during my pre- and early teen years. Loved it. Stay safe. All the best to you.

We did see that sign, but that was at a different location. The one we had our dog with us was at the airbnb. The owner said we were more than welcome to bring them out there if we pleases. However, we wanted to interact with the animals, and that was why we brought our dog back. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers 🍻 Chris and Jess.

Hi Jess and Chris. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Wales. I have family who live much further North in Wales. Have you seen The Channel 9B4M The Family Adventures.. Another American Family that live on a small farm in the East Midlands and have sheep too. ( He has farmed in the States). They have lived here for about 3 years. They produce some great videos of UK,, Their trips, the country life and the agricultural shows they have visited. Take a look at their latest video about the Malvern Autumn show Much more than just agriculture. Thank you for some great videos i really enjoy them.

I'm not Welsh but I did have a Welsh girlfriend years ago. Ll is pronounce "Cl" with a troat clearing sound. Put the tip of your tongue behind your front teeth and try flatten it out at the back, then kind of blow into your cheeks whilst saying "Cl".
