    My husband was in the RAF was 32 years. I can honestly say that successive Governments have treated our Armed Forces worse and worse. We used to have military hospitals 🙁 thanks for the kind words about us in the UK 🙂 xx

    Our hearts broke when we heard the young Royal Air Force members say that it's just another job in others' eyes. I'm so proud of them for serving their country. I am a proud service member, daughter, wife and granddaughter, and niece. I feel it is the greatest thing one can do for their country. Please tell your husband I said thank you for his service and for you for supporting him along the way. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and share with us. My deepest apologies for my late response. Cheers 🤍 Jess x

    Was at Nocton Hall and then Chessington for rehab' after a work accident back in the mid seventies. Plus both of my sons were born at Wegberg (Rheindahlen) All the RAF medical staff were second to none. Do they still exist other than Medical centre personnel?

    There is a video on KZread called 13hrs to Save Britain which shows how the RAF gained air superiority over the Luftwaffe and prevented the invasion of Britain. I live near to the QE Hospital in Birmingham which has a huge military wing and down the road from my house there is a military accommodation block purely for the military medics. I think it is marvellous because we civilians sometimes get treated by the military medics too as many of our hospitals are also teaching hospitals. I remember during the Afghan War, the number of military helicopters taking the injured to the QE - I offered up a prayer to everyone on those helicopters.

    As a wife of an Army veteran, I’m so glad you had a good evening at the ball. When we were stationed in Germany we shared our camp ( base ) with the American 69th USAFAD. When we had our annual summer / Christmas Sergeants ball the Americans were invited. We always had such a good time, I made some really good friends from different parts of the states and to this day still keep in touch ( my Husband and I are now both now in our early 60s ) we have a reunion in England every year and every couple of years we go back to Germany. Military friends are classed as family. Continue to enjoy your time in England and make lots of memories to look back on as I look back on our time in the military as the best days ( my husband served for 32 years )

    Respect guys . My old man was Royal Navy amd on leave at the height of the BoB and said the sight of the airforce taking on the Germans when Britain was on the verge of an massive invasion gave great hope to the citizen. Unfortunately my uncle was in bomber command and KIA a year later at 21. Thank goodness the USA came onboard so respect is also due to the young lads serving and dying far from home .

    If Britain had lost the Battle of Britain WWII would have been lost to the Germans. We were vastly outnumbered. It really was a miracle. Most of the pilots were very young, only about 20 years old and all of Europe had been conquered except Britain. We will never forget those pilots.

Being with people from other countries, especially face to face talking to people doing a similar job is a great experience . Do you have any sporting things going on? Does your base have any sports teams that compete with local teams playing football. baseball, rugby etc?

    UK military branches are. Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army and Royal Air Force. The Army does not hold a Royal title as a whole, because unlike the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force, which have always been single-entity forces. The Army, traditionally and still today, is composed of separate entities of forces that combine together. Most of the separate entities within the Army have been granted the Royal title, such as the Royal Engineers, but some entities within the Army, such as the Foot Guards Regiments, have not been granted the Royal title.

    Did 22 years and my second to last station was Marham. I always tried to miss most "Mess Balls" as I didn't want to buy "Mess Dress" plus I was commuting from near my previous station by the time I "Got my third". Spent a while working jointly with the USAF at Alconbury, Decimomannu in Sardinia and Ramstein in Germany. Whilst we were looked after when serving, I would agree that the US forces are generally more highly thought of and looked after once they come out of the services. Perhaps it's changed since I got out in the mid nineties?

    C&J My wife Suz did her time with the WRAF (when the women's branch was a separate service). This morning she rode her Triumph motorcycle over to Waddington for brunch with the Royal British Legion motorcycle section. When she got home, I asked her how it went? To which she responded with: 'well you know what it's like when a load of ex-mob get together. We compared illnesses, agreed that the country had gone to the dogs, and skillfully avoided all references to political correctness'. 😊 She's also Poppy Appeal co-ordinator for our small town in Lincolnshire (Spilsby). Last year, they raised for ex servicemen and their families over £15K, and that's just from our small town. So, many of us really do value our ex service people. The 2023 Poppy Appeal is launched next month. Wear your poppy with pride.

    For complex historical reasons the British Army is never called the "Royal Army", just the Army, Royal titles exist at Regimental/Corps level, but contrary to popular belief its nothing to do with the Civil War of the 1640's, it relates to the way that individual Regiments are founded by Royal Commission whilst the RAF and Navy have a single Royal Commission that covers the entire force.

    The 2 biggest things in The Battle of Britain was that Air Chief Marsha Hugh Dowding had organised radar and organised quick response known as the Dowding System, it was the word's first wide area ground controlled interception network. The second was that the Germans stopped attacking air bases and radars because Britain was bombing German cities and Hitler ordered retaliatory attacks on British cities and this gave British air bases time to rebuild. Third precious British pilots bailing out could fly again whilst German pilots were captured and thus out of the war. Lastly British industry ramped up air production and were actually outbuilding the German aircraft industry. OF course both sides had brave pilots but British pilots had the advantage of far more fuel whilst German pilots had to fly home before too long or risk ditching in the channel;

    @DaydreamersBarn ...you have a heart of gold and although strangers your empathy is a comfort ...social media is a funny thing and it's 21st century, connecting and learning...there's no real right or wrong, just listening debating, I buried my dad yesterday and all he ever wanted in life is peace of mind ...you both are truly a love story of compassion and politeness ...never think your best is never good enough as you 2 have a wonderful gift ...forget countries different beliefs and culture, we are fundamentally the same...there's more good in the world...when we think we are always right then we given up learning...I got into this over covid and now follow you Amanda Rae and Magenta Otter Travels who is a Texan and knows more about the UK than I do...now there's a testament to how lovely Americans are without the nonsence of Healthcare and guns ...we as people are the same....different worlds but the same world...I really want you to succeed at this youtube thingy ...I only follow 3 as you all are so lovely and its nice to hear you talk about the UK ...♥️🌈😘

    I think we look at joining the army etc is a choice, and I say that as a daughter of a veteran who was in the army during the height of the troubles in Northern Ireland. When he left it was with exemplary conduct Veteran are respect we just don't go around thanking people for their service like prayer. Only on rememberence day. It happened to my Dad a couple if times someone thanked him for his service and he was very uncomfortable and embarrassed and said he was just doing his job.

    @@DaydreamersBarnThe documentary has a misleading title. As you are clearly aware, the Battle of Britain lasted from 10 July to 31 October 1940. The video concerns the events of only one day of the Battle, albeit a turning point. But many who don't have any knowledge about the Battle think the title means that it lasted only 13 hours. To give you a much better overall view of the Battle I recommend you watch the feature film made in 1968 starring Michael Caine and Lawrence Olivier called (not surprisingly!) "Battle of Britain ". Highly recommended.

    Usually the (not entirely undeserved) complaint is that Americans are too loud… there’s no pleasing some people.
