American WW2 Soldier Describes Friends Hit by Nazi Mortar-Fire In Normandy | Remember WWII

Raymond Tarabusi's war testimony covers in great detail the first-hand experience he had serving in the US Army in the time around D-Day. Mr Tarabusi followed the initial wave, being sent to Normandy to help with Operation Cobra, an attempt to break Allied forces out of Normandy and gain a firm foothold in mainland Europe. Mr Tarabusi saw his friends die, and witnessed all kinds of grim realities of war as his service took him from Normandy to the Ardennes, and the infamous Battle of the Bulge.
We thank Mr Raymond Tarabusi, his friend Moose, and all who served with such distinction and sacrifice in World War II.

My dad was a Sherman bow gunner. Lost him several years ago. I'll always regret not getting his stories on video. God bless this man!

You mean he…. Speaks? If you’re saying that he shouldn’t be able to speak because he’s elderly is pretty messed up, but I guess you keep doing you boo boo.

My father was wallking in an echelon line of GIs down a hillside into the town of Jena, Germany. The mortar platoon was shooting mortars over their heads into the railroad marshalling yard. He said he looked to the right and happened to see a short round hit a guy on the top of his helmet and explode. They ran over to help and he said all that was left was two combat boots with the feet still in them.

My father was wounded and captured at Anzio ,after invading ,North Africa , Sicily, and Salerno ,his division...the 45th div. , 157th inf...the thunderbird div. Then liberated Dachau concentration camp . Like you dad told me the reality of sacrifice some paid. How can we not be proud of what sacrifice those Americans gave. I'll forever be in awe of that victorious generation of of Americans . To bad our country will soon be no more because Obama, Biden , and the 5th column anarchist traitors who are destroying everything our fathers fought for. FUBAR

Just sad how such bravery an honor goes unnoticed by or political govt,no respect after upholding this nation on their shoulder's.I will always give respect where respect is do.I never went into service,I knew I couldn't live with taking a life,or knowing poor service after discharge.Salute to all,An all the fallen.

If he was discharged out of Indiana best guess it was from Camp Atterbury north of Columbus, Indiana. It's still there and where a lot of guys were inducted and discharged.

I wish the word "Nazi" wouldn't be attached to everything relating to WWIi. "German mortar fire" would be more accurate

How is that more accurate than saying Nazi fired mortars which is already correct? Or are you one of them wannabe’s who is obsessed with trying to be a professional failure?

Agree. So the troops firing the mortars were all paid up members of the NSDAP I am presuming.
