Лично у меня много знакомых из разных стран, но это не является поводом для того, чтобы так мыслить и считать их друзьями. Более того, я имею примеры родственных предательств, поэтому слово дружба звучит наивно. Безусловно в некоторых случаях и у некоторых людей слово дружба может значить больше, чем просто слово, однако вы можете ручаться только за себя и понятия не имеете, что наверняка в головах у ваших друзей, верьте на слово и получайте опыт на основе чужих примеров, не стоить быть наивными.

UCLA has a great Russian department, so it’s great you’re taking some classes from there. My personal suggestions would be Rosetta Stone, tandem app, and listening to Dasha’s podcasts. Personally, the podcasts skyrocketed my listening skills over a short period of time. Stephen, did you get like a minor in Russian to go along with your international business studies? How many university classes did you take in Russian? I'm just curious, because I was really impressed with your speaking. I took five semesters of Russian at an American university a long time ago, and recently have started studying on my own again... it's really great now of course with resources like KZread that didn't exist before when I studied at the university. And if I can ask, have current events changed your future plans vis-à-vis Russia ?

He's spent a good number of time/years studying, years practicing with native speakers. No fluency comes "overnight". Trust me, I am a polyglot from birth............ My native language is Dutch, number two, English, then French, German, a great deal of Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Russian. Other languages only in quick terms, needs, ordering, etc.

También me sorprendió su nivel avanzado de ruso. Yo llevo casi un año estudiando y aún estoy muy lejos de ese nivel de fluidez. Creo que la diferencia está en que el ha visitado Rusia y ha estudiado el idioma allá, en inmersión total.

Стивен хорошо говорит по-русски! Так держать! Люблю американцев who's open-minded. I think it gives a huge advantage in the modern times to experience multiple cultures and be able to understand where people might be coming from. Я жил в Калифорнии и полюбил её.

👏👏Однокурсник Стивен!! Отличная беседа! :) Мне особенно понравились замечания про дружбу. Совершенно верно!! Согласно со всеми, кроме комментарев о рыцарстве и бесопасности. Еще во многих местах США вежливо открывать двери для других и не разделять счеты пополам. И в Калифорнии преступности выше крыше, не везде. Из-за таких причин многие американцы понимают Калифорнию, как будто она своеобразный штат или собстсвенная страна.

Дорогая Тереза)) да, ты права - у меня очень субъективный взгляд как житель Калифорнии. Но у многих городов в других штатах есть эти же проблемы/аспекты, как Нью Йорк, Чикаго, Филадельфия. Но как ты сказала - не везде, слава богу)) классные мысли у тебя, спасибо 🙏

14:10 This is the most remarkable statement of the whole video: Grammar is not the most important thing when learning a foreign language. That's the only fucking thing teachers need to know and consider when imparting lessons and dealing with students, but for some reason they don't. They spend months and years seeing their students stucked with boring grammar, linguistics and academics rules about how articulate sentences and the syntax, while the habit of listening and trying to elaborate your own speech by the mere force of repetition is way more effective. The process needs to be more dynamic, and less scholar. Bald and Bankrupted also stated this, that at the begining he spend a lot of time learning the traditional way, with the grammar, but given poor and slow progress, he decided to shift to speech practice and direct exposure to the language. His skill rocketed. Another way to see this is just by considering how we all learned to speak our mother tongue as children; nobody can say that learned grammar and rules, cases, etc, at the age of 2-3 yo. All the people learn by repetition and "intuitive approach" to the words, not as a robot.

3 years ago was the first time I ever sat down and started studying the language. Some of my lifelong friends are Russian, however we only ever spoke in English, since the extent of my Russian language knowledge prior to that was simply привет как дела and хорошо. However, I’ve had a lifelong passion/interest for the Russian language, culture, and people, and an unexplainable connection to it. As such, I’ve listened to Russian music for a large portion of my life, starting well before knowing a single word in Russian. I therefore feel that the hours of music contributed to my eventual pronunciation, as perhaps my brain was subconsciously downloading the phonetics of words that I would eventually learn. Because of this, I think listening to music in the target language is a great form of passive learning. Anyways, I checked out your channel, looks like you’re living the dream! Very cool situation.

Also when an American really wants to travel to Russia, it's often the case that they have Russian heritage Thanks for explaining) You have great results with your Russian for studying such a (relatively) short amount of time. Молодец!) Yes I am living my dream, I have been living in Russia for 6 months now) I started studying Russian 2 years ago, and I always dreamt of living here for a long period of time (to really get an experience of immersion) and also I wanted to speak with Russians fluently. Steven should move out of California to the south or the south east in the United States. It is not like that here (except for the larger cities).

Please try to visit evangelical churches. You will enjoy. You will love the people there. People are simple and humble. Protestant Christian doesn't drink alcohol and they keep their varginity before marriage. They don't allow long dating before marriage and they are keeping the value of Christainity. Orthodox and Protestant Christian are very different here in Russia. I don't wanna say much here you will see the difference soon.

Russians do not expect good things from life, but only problems and do not set themselves up for happiness. And when happiness happens, everyone is happy. And if not, they say that no one expected anything else. That's why Russians are stress-resistant. Therefore, the Russians behave calmly in the trench during the war and calmly endure bombing.
