An American guy drove a P1800 Volvo over 3 million miles. He bought it in the 60s and just kept driving. There was no engine swaps. Volvo gave him a car 3 times. He just kept driving it and gave the new cars to his children.

The P1800S was from 1966 or 67. What was the best about it: This car did it on its first engine! Before the mileage of this Volvo became public, a Mercedes 180D taxi from Greece was world record holder at 1mio.+ kilometres, but it had required a couple of engine swaps to get there. The P1800's B18A got a set of oversize pistons and fresh bearings at some point, but kept going.

A friend of mine had a coworker like 10 years ago that had a million km Volvo wagon and a salon wanted the car as a display in the salon. They wanted to give him the new one for free and he didn't take it. He said he will drive it until it dies. And it died a year or two later and he got a new one for free.

Although it's 3 weeks late, i utterly have to tell you something to that dark blue car with glas hatch. That is a HUGE deal, they are the most famous and sought after of all volvos. In Germany , they sell for 6 figure prices, when still good or well restored. They even have a very famous nickname, which is "Schneewittchen Sarg", and would translate to "Coffin of snow white", that fairy tail girl figure. It is considered more a sports car mixture with a wagon. Very important as this kind of modeling mixture is getting very popular now again 50 years later. If the car is still there GET IT !!! The best Volvo model, that was ever out there!!! And rare!!!

My father had a Volvo 240 saloon car. He was towing a caravan around Scotland (coming from Devon) On the way back he hit a spot on the M5 motorway where the camber on the road is adverse. The Caravan started swaying and he lost it. The caravan overturned and smashed to pieces. When the Police arrived, they told him that he was lucky that he was driving a Volvo. If it had been any other car, the caravan would have dragged the car and turned that over too. My parents would have been in a very bad crash. Fortunately all they lost was the Caravan

I was studying to be a car body mechanic, and we had a customer who had bought one of these from the U.S. and shipped to Finland. I worked on that car for months, it was so rotten and rusted that it was unbelievable why the guy even bought it. But it sure was a cool car. Only time when I've seen one in my life. I love Volvo's. Apart from brake pads and the like, the engines were still running strong with in excess of 300,000 miles on them.

In UK and EU you cannot just buy a new vehicle and run it forever without servicing it, or repairing it properly. You must have it rigorously, extensively tested (MOT Test) after 3 years, and every year after that or it is instantly illegal to be driven on the highway. You cannot ignore it as there are cameras all over, including in police cars, which instantly flag up vehicles without MOT certificates, which are not insured, or have been reported stolen. We do things right over this side of the pond! That, sadly, is the gaping chasm between us and not just about vehicles either.

Here in Australia, until Ford left, the taxi of choice was the Falcon, with a straight six 4.1litre engine with about 40 years of development. At 1 million miles (1.5 million km), you would expect to have changed the diff twice, and the transmission once or twice, but probably never even cracked the motor open. And that is in city driving! The secret is warm starts, using a fraction of the available power, and regular servicing. That motor was an absolute gem. All gone now. Pity.

This is probably coming from the dealer, running a piece in the news, getting some good PR. This is most likely not from Volvo HQ, otherwise they'd be giving him the car. Volvo is not as big of a manufacturer as many think though. They're barely the size of Mazda. They make about 600-700,000 cars per year. Plenty to make them the largest company in Sweden by revenue, but in the grand scheme of things they are considered a medium sized company. Now, Volvo Cars and AB Volvo are two different brands. AB Volvo is the company that runs Volvo Trucks, Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo Marine Engines, they own Mack in the US and some other brands, they are one of the largest heavy vehicle manufacturers in the world, if not the largest. Volvo Cars was owned by Ford, then the 2008 financial crisis hit, Ford had to trim their portfolio (remember, they owned so many brands back then, so did GM), and they were sold to Geely, the same company that owns Lotus and a smaller part of Mercedes, Geely also has a smaller stake in AB Volvo. While many people oppose Chinese ownership of these brands out of principle. I have to say, Geely has governed Volvo better than Ford ever did. Gave em' a bag of cash and told them "do your thing". Volvo is the most important brand in their portfolio, with a lot of expertise that they need, they were not the most important brand to Ford, and thus they are being treated better than they were by Ford. Ford basically bought Volvo for their P2 platform which they later developed into the platform that a lot of Ford vehicles used. They took Volvos profits, took their technologies and used them in other brands not letting Volvo use them in their own products, it was a shitshow. Trust me, I know - my father worked as an engineer at Volvo from 2001 or something til 2009.

I miss my 940 wagon ´95. Solid, but the rust would take all my money. And the Danish State punish classic cars. Only one time the fuel filter striked after 350.000 km. Due to a low fuel tank the pump broke. The design on the P1800S is a Shooting Brake Style. The big glass back was reused on the 440/480 ES and C30 again. Love those good old cars with no computers only the simple first gen OBD. Thanks for this nice video. BR NGK

I went to school near where Roger Moore lived in the UK, used to see him in a white Volvo P1800. I drove a few 145s and 245s maybe 40 years ago and some other Volvos in the late 1990s. Recently have bought my first Volvo, it is not the fastest car on the planet though by no means slow, but it is an absolute pleasure to drive. You really should look up "Irv Gordon" the highest mileage passenger car. The engine was rebuilt a few times but it is the original...

Livery cars rack up the mileage quickly. I bought my 2006 Lincoln Town Car from the company I worked for here in Southern California when it was about 460,000 miles. Several trips to LAX daily add up quick. I’ve added 40+, now at about 508,000. The engine was rebuilt twice, transmission once. It’s enjoying “retirement” now, not putting on as much mileage as it did on the job. Still as smooth as ever. Before I moved here from Oz, I had a 1958 VW Bug, original engine. The odometer turned over to zeroes when I had it, but since the odo display only had 5 digits, there’s no telling how many times it’d hit 100k before I got it. The engine was pristine, but everything else was worn out. Rust finally killed the body, the engine went on to live in another car.

"The Saint", A British TV series from 1962 with Roger Moore as Simon Templar,(The Saint) drove a Volvo P1800. They were supposed to use a Jaguar E-Type but for reasons they ended up with the P1800. There were also a P1900 around for a year, 56-57, with a fibre glass chassi that they only made 67 of and originally called Volvo Sport. The B16/B18/B20 motors are pretty much unkillable.

Depends if you want to carry on with that package then it's still free maintenance and so on for a vast monthly pay per month. For a xc40 depends what model and engine in Belgium it cost 500-600€ per month you don't need to pay maintenance, insurance and all the rest only pay for the gas/oil you put in it... And the month subscription.

Dunno, 2 years of totally free driving no insurance, no servicing or tyres costs. At the end of the 2 years, he can either continue the sub, or give it back. In that time, give the 940 a full restoration. Owned quite a few Volvos over the years, 340GL, 740GLE, 850 and S60D5. The 340GL couldn't get out of my life fast enough, the 850 with the 2.5l Petrol 10v was fun but the autobox really didn't allow the engine to stretch. The 740GLE with its 2.3l Petrol was just a pure comfort cruiser. Nice place to be, but really not quick at all! But that was fine, as that just meant you got to enjoy the seats for longer!. S60 i will miss, the 5cylinder engine in the D5 was really nice and a comfortable place to be, just don't do the milage to keep her sweet sadly. All but two of my cars I've owned in the last 30 years have been under £1k, with the 740 costing £250 and keep me on the road for 5 years with minimal repair costs, it was the star of my car history.

The p1800 was Volvos sports coupe in the 60s. Of course they had to do a wagon version of it, the P1800ES. Here in Sweden people called the P1800ES "the fish car". Oh, and heated seats. Sweden used to be a country that had really long, cold winters, even in the southern parts. I bet heated seats was the second thing they added after the steering wheel when they built their first car, sometime in the 1920s.

200.000 Miles... Didn't they use the car?? I used to have an '83 244DL. Barely any problems with it. I took it of the road when it passed 880.000 km (547.000 miles). The engine was running perfect, but the car was too rusty to be roadworthy. The engine was later put in another 240, and lived in that car some years. After that i bought a MB 190, but it didn't take long till i was back in a Volvo, a 740. For now i drive a 2003 V70 with 470.000 km on the clock, no rust and still going strong. It's a beautiful car, and a pleasure to drive.
