I think Americans are starting to understand how much they have missed out on. Also British people understand that we don't have anything like this anymore and that's sad.
just a bit of background, ‘our’ in the north of England can often mean a member of the extended family. So when she says ’our Eric’, she could mean ‘ourEric’ who belongs to her family, but Granville takes it to mean ‘our Eric’ as belonging to them as a couple.
Anything with Ronnie Barker in is always a win. Have you watched Porridge yet? A masterclass in comedy.

Remembering the 'feel' of those times makes me want to cry with nostalgia
Ronnie Barker, one of the greatest comic geniuses, he wrote all the scripts and then was a fantastic actor, the Shakespeare of an era
I recognise the young lad here at 14:04 from the two 1970s television series Sam and Striker. It's a sobering thought to look him up on Wikipedia and find that he is now 63 years old.
British humour is so good. Especially these old programs. They never go out of date
Living close to Canada in the 70's we were able too watch 4 different Canadian stations. They routinely ran many UK shows such as this. Much more entertaining than much of our US series of the time.
lovely bloke Mr Barker. Many years ago I got to see open all hours as an audience member, between filming the sketches he would grab a random jar of sweets, grab handful and throw them to us... they were all real!! lol
I used to love this when i was a kid and every time i watch it now i can still smell that shop. There used to be thousands like it in the UK :)
As a kid I used to watch this on an evening with the parents in front of a log fire, it has surprised me that I instantly knew it was Gladys Emmanuel though! The finger killer cash register is also a frequent feature
I'm so glad you like Ronnie Barker. The guy is a true legend in British comedy.
"It's not her, is it?" That line cracks me up every time.
Ronnie Barker wrote so many sketches for the two Ronnie’s he was embarrassed to submit them under his own name,so invented a range of pseudo names to cover the huge output of his writing, following his death it was discovered that he had been writing and submitting since an early age to pretty much all the legendary comedians,tv comedy show’s,stand up’s even stage plays, and if I remember correctly DR who a prolific writer of not just humour and satire but also drama.

It wasn't that he was embarrassed to submit them. He didn't want the producers to approve a substandard script, just because he had written it.

@@BedsitBob spot on he wanted to get them made because they were funny. Not because he wrote them as Ronnie. Take the four candles one that was wrote under another name
Loved this series. Still just as funny. Anything with Ronnie Barker in is a win for me, especially Poridge.
Hi E.B., it`s always wonderful to see someone else enjoying this show, as much as we did at the time. Sadly, the BBC no longer produces these great programs. Once again, reminded how lucky I was to grow up when I did. So many wonderful comedians/comic actors that I got to enjoy with my family.
He did another series called Clarrence that was funny too, those glasses he wore were a comical.
Roy Clarke who wrote the series is still alive. He is 92 and was still writing in the relatively recent past.

This comedy has a real warmth to it. Amazing.
doesn't get much more British than this! Ronnie Barker was a genius
Yet another great comedy 🤣. Ironically I can remember small corner shops like this. Keep up with the great reactions. The fantastic Ronnie Barker and David Jason. Another very similar classic sitcom is the "Good Life", four brilliant characters in that.

Shows like this never get old. I can’t imagine anything they make these days as well as some of our classic British comedy. And David Jason is good in everything. Even now watching things like this and darling buds of may just make me happy. They definitely should never have tried to remake that.
In my mid-40s now, and this not only brings back the wonderful nostalgia of sitting my with my grandparents laughing out loud to Ronnie Barker and David Jason - but seeing someone else enjoy and laugh like classics like Open All Hours for the first time is like a dopamine hit to the soul - haven't laughed this much in ages :) . Keep going Mr Beard Man - I'm about to become a subscriber
I love Arkwright's interpretation of Hamlet's soliloquy.
You have earned my sub! this is on my doorstep in Doncaster, Balby! It's close to my home and heart. David Jason is a treasure to us.
A classic. A treasure. Ronnie is wonderful.
RIP Lynda Baron, otherwise known as N N Nurse G Gladys Emmanuel
RIP Nurse Gladys Emmanuel, the much loved Lynda Baron.
In Yorkshire people use the term "our" in reference to family members as in our mum, our dad. so when she says our Eric it does not mean the girl was saying Granville was the dad.
Perfect Storm. Unbeatable dialogue, supreme comics.
Great series with brilliant characters.
In real life the shop is a hair dressers they had to close it a few months at a time to do the filming it was popular with sightseers as well
Filmed round corner from me In Doncaster, as a kid i was brought up on this and other Ronnie Barker classic. The shop is still there today
Sadly Lynda Baron, who portrayed Nurse Gladys passed away today, aged 82 :(
Grew up watching this show, always made me laugh .👌😂😂😂
In the scene of the old lady and arkwright handed her an once of shagg and 2 pints of exportable i nearly peed myself and I saw you looked bemused, I'd like to explain his joke, it was a northern england thing, the ounce of shagg is tobacco that you roll in a piece of paper to make a cigarette and the exportable drink was only drunk by really tough pitmen and when he said "and does she want anything for your husband" I cried with laughter, at that time in the early 70s up northern England it was frowned upon for a married woman to drink beer let alone smoke rollies as the cigarettes we're called.
What does it eat "people I hope" I love that, I watched this on tv back in the day and the repeats also, I have the complete box set to, I'm from England and as I've said before it's one of the top best British sit coms along with Only fools and horses, Steptoe and son, Poridge, Blackadder, Last of the summer wine, The Likely Lads, Bottom, Rising Damp, All these and a few more are the absolute top tier of British TV comedys, unfortunately they really don't make them like this anymore.
Fetch a cloth
Probably said it before but think this is my favourite of the series you are reacting too. Not only the episodes but your reactions. sorry if I'm repeating myself.
David Jason called Ronnie Barker the governor meaning he was the best Also good funny show with Ronnie Barker is a show called Clarence
And they say it was filmed in Doncaster YORKHIRE 😊 a few miles from where i was born.
Love this show, they did a remakewith david Jason as granville, not as good without ronnie but a sweet gesture to have go almost full circle
Eat yer chips! Nice one man. Doncaster where it's filmed is nearest town to where i live. Cheers for that.
That Kid went to my School!
The two best situation comedians from the 70s/80s
I still rewatch it, love this show
Different kind of gun ha ha🤣🤣🤣
Yesss!!! I was hoping you were continuing with this😁😁😁
Ahhh the good old days 😊❤👍🏼
only fools and horses is also classic ...
Oh, just to add a bit of context. Yorkshire women are renowned for being dominating battle axes and Yorkshire folk are generally ALMOST as tight, or skinflint or miserly as Scotsmen lol. I think some of the cobble street scenes were filmed in Leeds although I may be wrong.
The till when the drawer snaps shut is actually done by someone behind the prop who pulls a piece of string attached to it.
This shows was on for over 12 and a half years so you have a lot to watch.
both great actors .. know to me as del boy oh and fletch ,
The shop in the series was a hairdressers! Outside shots!
Glad you love the old British comedies. There's no better than Arkright and G GG Granville. Have you tried any Peter Kay?? Phoenix Nights...or Car Share......Some of the best comedy you will see... Next........👍😁
The street and shop are real, not a stage set. It was a hairdresers when the filming stopped.
I just wish you'd watch and react to all of them...would love to just sit and binge watch all of the open all hours reactions
Really enjoying your channel, great memories watching these.
Nice one EB..Classic stuff Cheers🌟
And it gets better.. with each episode & series.
BBC2 was deemed as a, 'high brow', channel, thus the reference to it being, 'educational.'
Watch this series all the time, but it’s great to see your reaction. 😊
This past weekend we sadly lost the actress Linda Baron aka Nurse Gladys.😢😢😢
You should try watching Ronnie Barker in Porridge. Top class classic comedy ! xx
“Stop or I’ll F F F F F F!” “Where have you been!!” “ B Bbbbbbbbbbbb” “it’s no good you know I can’t understand morse code!”🤣🤣🤣 favourite lines.
Sad news today about the passing of Lynda Baron who played Arkwrights fancy the midwife, aged 82 yrs. RIP
Good onya mate. You can get that show on every day if ya like. Have a look at Allo allo one day. Guaranteed laughs. Thanks mate.
Thought I'd let you know Lynda Baron that played Nurse Gladys passed away yesterday at the age of 82.
At 10 mins .....remember at this time in Britain the burger would have come out of a can... I used to live next to the Goblin Foods plant in Manchester and mum would buy dented cans from the factory shop.....greasy burgers and curried beans....now thats made me feel hungry im off for a tinned steak and kidney pudding🍮😁👍
So good to see that some Americans get our humour. There are so many stories of it sometimes going over their heads. A few gags perhaps get missed simply because of different names for things n such but so nice to see. As someone else said, it is so sad we are not allowed this type of real humour anymore because of the "constantly offended on behalf of another. Who probably wouldn't be offended at all" WOKE mob who are constantly destroying British life, British history and British humour. Thank you for keeping some of it alive, because we are not allowed to see repeats of stuff like this, even though the mainstream media thrives on the cheapness of repeats.

sorry to note he was so busy laughing he missed what in my view is a great line from Arkwright to Granville at the table, "don't crit there siticising" ... 😂

Except the first series which, in comparison with the later series, is a great disappointment. LOTSW lost a lot of its charm when Bill Owen/Compo died. But that will mean that you still have 20 series worth reacting to. ompo

Nurse Gladys Emanuel passed away yesterday aged 82.

Classic , from back in the day when the BBC turned out high class comedy programmes like this in abundance............sadly , a very long time ago now ....
8 til 12 me. You 12 til 8. Hahaha😅😅😅
The major difference between Uk and US comedy is subtlelty....Us comedy you can see the joke coming from a distance.
Dude, I can tell you really enjoyed that
Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett as the 2 Ronnies did a great sketch in a hardware store. Based on similar sounding words.

Sad day. Nurse Gladys Emanuelle is no more. Actress Lynda Baron has died, aged 82.
Nurse Gladys Emanuel surely had plenty of what Peter Cook would have called "busty substances" lol.
I enjoy watching old sitcoms with you... nurse is a midwife living with elderly mother, she has a good job and independence, why should she give that up for Arkwright and his miserly ways? She'd end up like Granville... suffocated and taken advantage of. Some of the references to his mother are quite close to the bone. It is what it is. I preferred Porridge.

She _likes_ Arkwright and his miserly ways. You think she'd put up with him if she didn't?
The 8 till 12 and the 12 till 8 went over ya head as well.
Fantastic👌😂😂😂❤
Please watch Porridge, pretty sure you'd love it!
you should watch last of summer wine great brittish comady
Now you know why we have strict gun laws, in the hands of people like Arkwright, especially when they are thinking about a certain nurse Misses Emmanuel, ? Exactly, could go off at any moment,
Hello Alan. Poor Granville. Innocent until proven gullible.
Don't make em like th th th this anymore...
Check out this very short clip from series 2 episode 4. I can watch it repeatedly and always laugh out loud: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eGSOxMpxmKiceMY.html .
Guesthouse paradiso Bottom movie
My man, you really need to get *Brass Eye* watched. Just be very careful about any reaction videos you make. It's got more edge than cliff side
And that's why we're not allowed guns.
Its no good, you know I cant understand Morse code! You may want to watch Barker's other series Porridge its just as good.
