    The scene where Brian is caught painting graffiti and is given an impromptu Latin lesson by a centurion is painfully familiar to many of us who did Latin in British schools!

    @simonwaugh5519

    Absolutely! During my third year of Latin at Grammar School ( this was in the 1970s'), I accidentally discovered, to my horror and disgust, that only 1 year of the subject was actually required--but of course, why tell us boys that, and thus threaten the Latin teacher's job security? With proof of this injustice, I was able to foment a 'revolt' By 6th Year, the latin teacher was gone. 'Romanus professori exeunt!!' (I will note though, that I hated Latin because our teacher was....a nasty piece of work... a fascist, basically. But learning some Latin---despite the agony-- was beneficial to me in the end.)

    Fun fact: Insofar as I know, the fella who said "I'm not" was actually an extra and just said it. Because it hadn't been scripted, Terry Jones called him aside afterwards and asked if he'd mind if they used it? He responded with *No problem". To which Terry said "Well done, it's now a speaking part - you're getting paid more" and they kept it in. Sweet! Not least because it's been quoted (by us) so many times in various ways - "We're all part of the team here", "I'm not"......

    They were even more amazing when they were attacked by the conservative, religious right in Britain and around the world, and managed to display the utter hypocrisy of these old, white farts in heavy gowns. The TV debate with Cleese, Palin, Malcolm Muggeridge (a journalist and Christian Convertite) and Mervyn Stockwood (the then Bishop of Southwark), is still a classic in demonstrating religious hypocrisy, and I still believe that one debate did more to tear down the immense power of the church than anything else in history - perhaps with the exception of Irish comedian genius Dave Allen.

The space interlude makes no sense whatsoever but that's what makes it so funny. It's as if the movie took a small break to enter insanity and then returned to the story.

Cinemas showing it were picketed by protesting nuns and Rabbi's waving placards. When I witnessed this, it was so Pythonesque and bizarre, I thought it was a publicity stunt! The 'Bigus Dickus' scene is one I never tire of. It was purported that the Roman soldiery extras were not aware of the scene's script beforehand and their reaction was genuine.

    Her husband is a huge Monty python fan, but she’s never seen anything that had to do with Monty python? I don’t think so!

    For most of those "Listening to music for the first time - Videos" its the same thought I have: "where have theyve been grown up away from any source of music like radios or music boxes (at home, school, shops, internet, evrerywhere!) to not have heard "In the Air tonight" or anything from Frank Sinatra or Queen or Whitney Houston .. I think they got the idea from the "I am legend" movie where an american woman pretends to never have heard of Bob Marley .. hilarious.

    This is basically How we atheists see all religious institutions. You should watch the scene where Brian gives a speech to the Street audience.

    @@harryfaber Yes it certainly is. What is wrong about mocking à large crowd of people who repeat in chorus "We must think for ourselves."?

    @@ronhirsch1944 I was trying to think up a witty response, but having watched a large group of my compatriots chanting moronic phrases and committing national economic suicide, I have to accept that you have a point. Of course, the mockery fell on deaf ears.

    Mockery can't cure stupidity. At best, it highlights it and warns against it. When millions of supposedly relatively well educated people seem incapable of seeing through such obvious purveyors of lies as Boris Johnson, Trump, Mormonism, the Jehovah's Witness cult etc. and the vast majority of televangelists, one fears for the future. Still, mustn't grumble, eh?

    "There's evidence of settlements with one long village street, farmsteads , hamlets, little towns, the framework was complete, by the time ... Of the Norman Conquest! The rural framework was complete!", but then Monty Python's favourite gag among it's members was "You have 30 seconds to summarise Proust".
