He’s talking about Spain in the 1970s and 80’s when Spain was a much poorer country and was often categorised as second world country along with Portugal and Greece. The water was known for being problematic. Joining the EU helped the country enormously and its own push for development brought it up to the standards of other European countries - and above on some measures

@@ennesshay5040 you might if you swim in British rivers. Since we left the EU the UK government has adjusted the rules on how much sewage water companies can pump into our waters - letting the pump in much more. Euuurghh!

We're just lucky to be in a country that's had very good sewage systems and waters works for a very long time. And not to mention the fact the further North you go the tap water gets better and even more enjoyable. I live in North West and wouldn't drink tap water down South when I go for the odd trips now and again cos it doesn't taste nowhere near the same as back home.

A few years ago I was in hospital recovering from a near fatal accident. I was on loads of strong medication. The thing is Morphine makes you constipated. As I was ready to go home the nurse said we will sign you out once you've been to the toilet. 3 days later I'd still not been even though I'd been eating 3 weals a day for about a month. So she gave me a laxative. Not no ordinary laxative, it was a large pill that she stuck up my arse. Within a couple of minutes I was out of my hospital bed running as best as I could to the toilet. I only just made it and I was in there for a good 30 minutes. lol. That was scary... Mine wasn't rusty water either. It was a month of compacted solid. Hhahahaha. But oh my days did it feel good when it was all out of me. Hahaha

I had the large pill up the ass when I was around eight years old, at that point in my life it was the most uncomfortable and awkward experience ever, I’d been blocked-up for a couple of weeks, there was blood, lol Ahh, happy times 🤣

Dunno what it's like now but turning a tap/faucet on in Spain during the 80's & 90's was like the sewer water was coming out of the tap

I went to Spain about 30 years ago and the water coming out of the taps was brown.

Spain is much better these days with European food hygiene standards etc. but I still wouldn't drink the tap water. I have drank tap water several times in Tenerife where it is safe but it tastes really strongly of minerals, so only when we've run out of bottled.

just in case you're interested, the reason us Brits still get the shits in Spain in because the water there has a much higher mineral content than ours and therefore ours bodies can't handle it. boring but true

I've lived in both India and Spain. Had the "world fall out of my ass" in India, for 3 days - but it was just the one time in 2 years living there. Love Spanish food and never had a problem there over 4 years of only eating local food.Mickey's anecdotes are much funnier than mine.

He was talking about Spain in the 70s and 80s, towards the end of and the years immediately following, the Franco dictatorship. Back then Spain was relatively poorly developed compared to much of Europe. People did get the shits back then, when they visited. It was well-known. Nowadays nobody gets the shits when they visit Spain and haven't done for quite some time. Spain is a modern developed nation nowadays. Having to abide by EU health and sanitation rules helped too, of course but I think they would have got there anyway.

I have the exact same laugh as this when I am high.

iv only been to Lanzarote and others for sure don't drink the water, the water is kept in Tanks

Remember the 70's Spanish shits well, every time! Us Brits did turn up in droves to Spain, Costa Brava, Costa Del Sol or Torremolinos were the places to go, posh people went to the South of France and it was before Spain joined the EU so sanitation wasn't the best that's why you don't get the shits now. Everything was so cheap though, suitcases packed with ciggies and booze to sell at home.

Funny to think that Spain was technically a fascist dictatorship until the death of General Franco in 1975. I love the country but it took them a while to become a normal European country. P.S. I really DO love the Spanish. Went their at 18 with some mates and we were pretty rowdy. We broke the mirror in our room after coming home very drunk and trying to put one of our number in the bath. I will never forget the Spanish caretaker. I felt like he didn't really disapprove and just advised we should calm down a bit. He knew "boys will be boys" which you can't say about most people these days. Spanish Machismo.

I've been subscribed to you for a few years now and I've just had to subscribe again..... you may want to check that out as another youtuber (King and Queen Boomer) had to post a video about said issues.... KZread is up to no good. Lol.

My wife is African but I come from the UK. When in Africa, I get the shits. When in the UK, she gets the shits. Now the UK has perfect hygiene, so it can't just be down to that. I think that we develop customed bacteria for different countries, which is why when you stay there long enough, your body adapts. But adapting to Spain gives you no protection to the natural bacteria hanging around in India, and visa versa. That's why in the UK we make our own Indian food and don't import it. Same with Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Turkish, German, Italian and French food.

The difference is, your wife is a rare exception, not the rule. Hardly anyone gets the shits when they come to England, unless they're unfortunate and catch something like noro-virus, which is hardly specific to Britain. In contrast, Spain in the 70s and 80s, and places like India now, was renowned for it. Travellers from Northern or Western Europe, or from the US or Canada and other places with good hygiene and sanitation, would invariably get the shits. It was the rule, not the exception. Similarly the overwhelming majority of Africans who come to the UK, don't get the shits, unless they already had an illness or digestive problem before coming here. Spain improved it's sanitation and hygiene standards, largely through EU regulation and it's no longer a problem when visiting Spain.
