@@Quinctili Granted, it would need to be altered a little to be our national anthem, but when you look around the world at all the different anthems of different countries, there's a huge wide variety and many are indeed just a song that represents what the country and culture is about, and the songs vary greatly in style. Ideal would be verses 1, 2, 3, lumped together without a break between them, then the chorus, and leave out the rest of it. But it certainly could be a national anthem for Australia if done right.

I Still Call Australia Home is a song written and recorded by Peter Allen [who's life story inspired the musical "The Boy From Oz"]. QANTAS has used the song in their advertising campaigns. It is considered an unofficial national anthem. Appearing here are: Kylie Minogue, Troye Sivan, Hugh Jackman [who starred in "The Boy From Oz" on broadway], Ash Barty and Adam Goodes.

Yep as others have said, is another incredible TV commercial for our major national international airline QANTAS. The indigenous lady at the start of the commercial represents the oldest continuing living culture in the entire world - over 65,000 years. The message is that everywhere is far from Australia and while we as a people love to travel, not matter where we go, we still call Australia home :) I've been all over the world. The US many times, Europe, China etc...but when you see a Qantas tail at the airport, you see that kangaroo on that red plane tail, it often makes you feel instantly homesick and I've even teared up. Love your channel - Keep up the great work! Craig

Thank you for the respect for the video you watched, there is quite a background story to it, with snippets in the other comments. You just opened a door very wide asking for Aussie music talent: Australia has some of the most amazing hidden singers and bands. Starting point could be with John Farnham. He is our favourite son who has been our much-loved king of music, performing with no loss of range or power from the age of 18 until a surgery this year at 73. He has an amazing range, unique vocals, incredible stage presence, performs better live and never misses a note. You will recognise some of the songs he has written and performed on movie soundtracks (You're the Voice), a Beatles cover (Help) he made entirely his own, but there are many other amazing songs he has written that you will not have heard. He has sung with Ray Charles, Tom Jones, Olivia Newton John (a very close friend), Celine Dion...Robbie Williams recently sang one of John's songs and dedicated it to his recovery. Any song from the 1980s concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is just amazing to view.

@@sg3596 Wow, bit out of touch. Sadie was 60 years ago - I don't think too many of us would like to be solely judged on our first performance in our first job. John has an extensive vocal range, A2 to G5, immense power, and gives an impeccable performance every time, whether singing ballads, rock, opera or musical theatre. John is the only Aussie to have a #1 record in five consecutive decades. Whispering Jack went 24x platinum and is the second-highest album sold in Australia by any artist (Meatloaf #1). Someone with a wimpy voice would not be the first singer approached by Queen to replace Freddie Mercury. Listen to Black Dog, a recording of his sound check, some time. You can say you don't like his music, but calling his voice 'wimpy' is just way off.

The song was written by Peter Allen, who left Australia to find fame in USA… The song came out in 1980… and has often been suggested as a logical development from the past insistence that UK was “home”. Today the song tends to be classed as Australian iconic music, along with I am Australian by the Seekers and Waltzing Matilda ( lyrics by Banjo Patterson). There are others, but most people know these: one for patriotism, one for multiculturalism and one for acknowledging our historic itinerants who were often forced to steal to survive. This video you watched was an advert for Qantas Airlines… the oldest continuously running commercial airline in the world. I am a proud Australian, and pleased you liked the song written by the ex husband of Liza Minnelli…

This is an excellent commercial by Qantas. The original song by Peter Allen is also gorgeous. There are many many versions of this song. For recommendations on Australian artists, Id say start off with John Farnham and "You're The Voice", he has done lots of others but that is his signature song. After that there are great songs by Midnight Oil (Beds Are Burning) Icehouse (Great Southern Land) INXS (Need You Tonight) Crowded House (Dont Dream Its Over) Cold Chisel (Flame Trees) etc etc. I could have listed many songs for each of these great Australian artists and many others besides, AC/DC, Kylie Minogue, Bee Gees, Olivia Newton-John to start with. Im so happy to see you take a look at Australia, I will happily join you for this ride. Im from Perth, the capital of Western Australia although I was born overseas Ive lived here since I was 6. Loved your main channel for a long while now (I think I was first drawn to it because of yr Queen reactions, Im a big fan!! Lucky to have met Freddie Brian and Roger) and Im very happy to start with this one. All the best Joel! And to Will and Cameron too :)

Oh, it should be our anthem. It's by Peter Allen who was at one time married to Liza Minelli. He was a wonderful songwriter. He wrote a magical song about Judy Garland titled "Quiet pease, there's a lady on stage ..." if you feel so inclined, search it out. I met him, only briefly and merely by chance many many years ago. If you can call it a meeting. I was seated with a friend in a restaurant, close to the window looking out on to the street. Peter Allen walked by, and peered through the window right into my face where I was sitting. He then came in with a small group of friends to have a meal. At first, when his face was pressed up against mine with only the pane of glass between us, I think he could tell that I knew who he was but I could not quite place him. I looked at him as if to say: "I know you!" Ha! Then the penny dropped and as he walked through the door he said words to the effect: "Almost had you fooled ..." Well, that's my Peter Allen story. Joel, there are many wonderful bands from Australia, and from New Zealand too. Dragon has long been an all time favourite. Fine kiwi lads who settled here in the 1970s to become icons. And of course there is also AC/DC. Solo artist, Olivia Newton John who held such close ties with Peter Allen and who sadly passed away recently. One major group who were so wonderful was The Seekers. Lead singer Judith Durham also passed away within days of Olivia Newton John. Judith Durham's voice was sheer magic! Perfectly centred, completely resonant., every thing sung simply and with so much ease. Back to "I Still Call Australia Home" - if Music is a nostalgic art this song epitomises that sentiment. Blessings! Show less

This made me feel patriotic and I'm not even Australian haha! But in all seriousness, it was beautifully made and that children's choir totally hit me in the feels! I could recognize some Australian singers here, Kylie Minogue (the woman sitting by the piano, she's huge both in her native Australia and here in Europe, has had some success in the US) and Troye Sivan (KZreadr turned pop artist), and a third male actor whose name completely escapes me atm but he has a surprisingly good singing voice! :)

I was first introduced to Troye Sivan with movie Spud (which has John Cleese - Basil Fawlty) which I thought was about an English school however I just saw its Sputh African. The South African and UK accents confuse me a little as I'm an aussie. This song/ film clip is definitely an updated version from the Qantas one when I was a child

Peter Allen was a true Aussie icon who sadly passed away in 1992. A country boy at heart, as some trivia he was once married to Liza Minelli. Qantas adapted his song (Rio changed to Rome to fit their schedules) but it is truly an iconic song. They first did this in the 1980s I think, I remember it being around when they used to have the old 747-200s doing the island hops across the Pacific. I’ve since been to NYC a few times on Qantas now and each time they played the song on the PA system as you boarded. It felt like home immediately even though I was on the other side of the planet. It’s an amazing song by an amazing artist.

This song makes me SO PROUD to be an Australian. We are one of the oldest countrites on earth, as evidenced by our aboriginal heritage, but one of the youngest according to western history. The beauty of Australia is not only in the natural blessings that God bestoyed on us, but of the freedom that we have to be who we want to be. Our multi-culturism is beyond reproach. All that we ask is that new citizens endeavour to leave past hatreds at the gate as they become Australian citizens. I have been a teacher for many years and I think the most important thing that I have ever taught my students was to value the freedom, embrace the differences and treasure what it is to be an Australian. Thank you for sharing, what is to me, a song which holds the most special place in my heart. I am one of the many PROUD AUSTRALIANS.
