Great video Ryan! I’ve met Jack Cowin twice, once at the Hungry Jack’s gala and at a Barista competition at the head office in Sydney. He is a very smart businessman and in tune with his company. Jack is surprisingly a very kind person and has a sharp mind for his age as he remembered me from the first time we’ve met. Hungry Jack’s has come a long way since the current CEO Chris Green took over. Chris himself has visited my store and I can see he is very passionate for the brand and growth of this industry. We would not have been where we are today without him and team he’s lead. I’ve been lucky enough to meet them both on multiple occasions. Also the new promo that came back today is the Big Jack, the HJ’s answer to the Big Mac, you should check that out. And chicken fries making a comeback down here too. 😊

I think we had the chicken chips as a special item a few years back. Can remember the Hunger Tamers Boxes coming out as a response to KFC’s boxed meals (Burger, 3 wings, potato/gravy vs 2 burgers, 3 nuggets). But Hungries was always the less popular - when you’re a kid you tend to stray towards Maccas. Everyone starts with a Happy Meal with Nuggets or a Cheeseburger, which is very safe, few veggies - just sneak the pickle to your sibling or parent. Then you evolve to a McChicken which only has lettuce, also very kid friendly or a Big Mac which also has a safe combination of lettuce and mushed onions. But the signature HJ’s Whopper has lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo and in some instance beetroot. Texturally it’s often a bit too much to start with, and you probably only appreciate it when you get older. But what I do remember was HJ always had much better deals, and they’d given the vouchers back to you. In the 90s we used to get 2 Whoppers for $3. My father, if buying dinner for the family would just go in and say I’d like 4 whoppers for $6 and they’d just do it.

A Hungry Jacks employee here. The burger bites are a promotional item. We change the promotional items about every 3 months. A week after publishing this video our promo changed to chicken fries. The hunger tamers Box is 1 burger (your choice) and 1 small burger (either bbq cheeseburger or chicken Royale) which are on a 4" diameter bun and only has meat, cheese & sauce or chicken lettuce and mayonnaise. Also keep in mind that the whopper is also a smaller bun and patty than in the states. The medium iced coffee is around $4.50AUD so you save a dollar and a half with the app although you can get much better offers on there. We still offer paper vouchers that people can print/collect and redeem for some similar priced deals if they don't want to use an app. Jacks cafe is a direct competitor to McCafe and is quite popular especially amongst older people as our restaurants are a lot less crowded than McDonald's. As for calling it HJ's it isn't all too common. Most people will say Hungry Jacks but it is pronounced "H-ae-ch J-ae-y-s" once you are use to it, it can also roll off the tongue.

Hungry Jack's main competitor in Australia is Maccas. Maccas has McCafe, so HJ has Jack's Cafe. And HJ's main tagline is "the burgers are better". I'd say some products are, but not every product line, as you'd expect.

Don’t be fooled, I went to my local HJs the other day, first time in 5 years, ordered an Ozzie Burger. The price has doubled, I waited 15 minutes and was handed a box in a bag that contained the ingredients for an Ozzie burger, but certainly not assembled. Now I remember why I haven’t bothered going there this last five years. What the burgers on the menu board look like compared to what I was given bore no resemblance to each other.

Hey Ryan the “better” slogans are for comparison to maccas actually, HJ and maccas are big rivals here as there isn’t many take away chains to compete with that mostly make burgers and fries. Hungry Jacks recently restored their Big Jack burger, which maccas complained about in the past being a rip off of a Big Mac. They can come in both beef and chicken varieties. Most people would often get a better tasting burger at a take away shop as someone else mentioned. More likely to include fresher ingredients such as beet root. I am in Tasmania and there’s a lot of nice mom & pop take away places or one off great quality places to eat compared to big name franchise take aways. Once such place is called hash burger, #burger being their branding to tie in with social media popularity etc.

We still had the Burger King, at least in the 70s and 80s (not sure if its still a thing now). If you had a birthday party at Hungry Jacks in, say, the 1970s, you would likely have your icecream birthday cake bought out to you by a guy dressed up as the Burger King (or Ronald McDonald if you had a Macca's birthday party). I don't think it was ever actually explained why Hungry Jack's had a Burger King, we all just kind of accepted it.

recently found your channel and enjoying your vids, i grew up here in au, anyway cut to the chase, burgers from mcdonalds (maccas) compared to hungry jacks (yeah we dont say hjs) are night and day, dont get me wrong maccas use good sauces but their burgers almost seem microwaved.. doesnt feel like theres a guy flippin burgers in the back, you go to hungry jacks and its obvious those burger patties have a flame grill taste just tens time better, anyway they recently won some award for like best coffee from a take away place and theyve only been doin it for like 2 years compared to mccafe been around nearly a decade, ive been using that thing on the app you were hovering above buy 4 get 1 free its actually lit, so you buy the medium caps for $2 each through the app (in store or drive thru without using the app is like 3.20 or something) you spend $8 for the 4 medium caps then for the free coffee (buy 4 get 1 free) you can choose a large cap (normally $5) and its a freebie, thats just the tip of the iceberg, they have these app rewards or app deals where you always save at least $5 for meals etc
